Construction and repair by own hands

Hidden self-tapping screws for corrugated board. How to fix the corrugated board on the roof with screws - secrets.

Roofing screws for profiled sheeting are special fasteners, the construction of which was specially designed for fastening the metal profiled sheet. The requirements for them are very high, since the features of the corrugated board device create during the operation conditions such that the loads on its fastening elements are very high.

This is mainly due to the large longitudinal stiffness and the area of the sheets of profiled metal, as well as to their light weight. The reverse side of the medal of these recognized advantages of corrugated board is its "sail", which, with considerable wind loads, leads to the emergence of forces that tear off the coating from the roof skeleton. It is for this reason that the reliability of the entire roofing system largely determines the strength and quality of the fastenings of the profiled sheet.

Self-tapping screws for profiled sheet - their types and classification

Self-tapping screws for attaching the corrugated board are divided into several groups depending on their design, purpose and conditions of use. Self-tapping screws for corrugated board can be used for fastening sheets to a frame made of wood or metal.

Self-tapping screws for metal corrugated board  have a smaller thread and a special tip in the form of a drill. They are usually made of high-strength alloyed carbon steel grade C1022 with a zinc protective coating. The presence of such a tip allows them to be screwed into a frame of metal profiles without pre-drilling holes. So self-cutters for corrugated board with a diameter of 4.8 mm can drill a metal with a thickness of 2.5 mm.

When fixing a profiled sheet to a wooden frame, apply self-tapping screws for corrugated board for wood. They have a slicing with a large step and a pointed tip. In fact, only a special head of increased diameter distinguishes them from a conventional screw. But thanks to the strength of the steel from which they are made, such self-tapping screws can also pierce sheet metal up to 1.2 mm thick without preliminary drilling. Usually this is sufficient for fixing the corrugated board, since the facing and roofing profiled sheet, as a rule, has a thickness of 0.45 to 1.0 mm.

Distinguish the screws also in the design of the head. It can be cylindrical, semicircular, spherical or hexagonal. The heads can have different splines - in the form of an asterisk, cross-shaped, figured or straight.

Self-tapping screws with hexagon heads are designed specifically for fastening using a screwdriver or a low-speed drill, since it is much easier to screw the screws into the corrugated board with the use of power tools. In addition, the force to screw the self-tapping screw with this head is six times smaller than for a self-cutter with a conventional slot, and one and a half times smaller than for a cross-slotted self-tapping screw.

The way to fix the corrugated sheet with self-tapping screws depends on the area of application of the metal profile. If for internal works  and facing of facades it is possible to use self-tapping screws with an enlarged head or a press cup, then for roofing  Only self-tapping screws with EPDM gasket are used. This is the name of a special seal made from modified artificial rubber, which seals the place where the corrugated sheet is fastened to the roof crate.

The gasket from this material is glued to a spring metal washer and self-vulcanized when in contact with the surface of the metal profile. This ensures complete tightness of the attachment point and protects against the slightest penetration of moisture inside the connection. In this case, the gasket retains its elasticity throughout the life of the roofing and plays the role of a shock absorber that compensates for the expansion of the metal at changes in the temperature of the roofing.

In addition to the gasket, the roofing screws on the edge of the hexagon head have a special protrusion that strengthens the head and promotes the maximum tightening of the washer with a protective seal against the surface of the profiled sheet.

In addition to zinc, self-cutters for profiled sheet can also have a color protective and decorative coating. This allows you to choose which self-cutters for profiled sheeting to use to fix the profile with different colors. Just like the metal profile itself, the screws are painted in the colors of the standard RAL palette, which allows not to spoil the appearance of the roof, making its fastening absolutely imperceptible.

Self-tapping screws for profiled sheet: choice of quality fasteners for corrugated board

As already mentioned above, roofing screws experience very high loads during operation. Therefore, choosing which self-cutters are needed for the corrugated board, first of all, it is necessary to pay attention to quality, and not to the cost of self-tapping screws for the profiled sheet.

Very important is the strength of steel, from which the self-tap is made and the correct sharpening of the drilling tip is made. If the roofing screw breaks when screwed in metal carcass  roof, then the fastening will have to be performed elsewhere, and a through hole will remain in the roofing profile.

Companies that produce self-tapping screws for profiled sheeting pay great attention to the quality of their products. Each batch of finished products is subjected to tensile testing. With a standard tensile force of 102 kg / cm, leading manufacturers achieve values of 150-170 kg / cm, so it's better to buy self-tapping screws for the corrugated board of a well-known brand.

When choosing fasteners for corrugated board, be sure to pay attention to the following:

  • Large manufacturers of fasteners required mark their products. The lack of marking clearly indicates a low quality of the product.
  • When choosing roofing screws you need to inspect the neoprene gasket. It must be elastic and thickness not less than 2 mm.
  • On the packaging of self-tapping screws from leading manufacturers, thickness of protective zinc coating. She must be not less than 12 microns. Thinner coating will not last long and in two or three years on the surface of the roof will begin to appear rusty streaks.

In order to check the quality of roofing screws, it is necessary to squeeze the washer with EPDM gasket with pliers. At the same time, paint cracks should not appear on it, and the gasket itself should not exfoliate from the metal washer.

How to fix self-tapping screws in profiled sheeting

Before fixing the corrugated sheet, it is necessary to choose the correct diameter and length. The diameter of the screws is chosen depending on the weight of the profile: the larger it is, the greater the diameter of the fasteners.

The length of the screws is determined by the carcass material and the height of the corrugated wave. General rule  is such that the length of the screw should be 3 mm larger than the thickness of the fastened structures. Thus, the smallest length of the fastener is used to install the corrugated board on the metal frame, longer self-screws are used for the wooden crate and the shank of the roofing is fastened for the longest.

Despite the fact that the tips of self-tapping screws of a large diameter are able to drill holes in metal up to 4-5 mm thick, before winding screws into corrugated board, it is recommended to pre-drill holes in the mounting place. They should be 0.3-0.5 mm in diameter larger than the diameter of the screw. This avoids the deformation of the profile metal at the place where the screw is installed and presses it more tightly against the surface of the support structure. In addition, the larger diameter of the drilled hole compensates for the linear movement of the profile during temperature changes.

When installing screws, you must avoid both excessive tightening and loose fitting of the neoprene washer to the metal. Therefore it is best to use for fixing corrugated board screwdrivers with adjustable cartridge rotation force.

You can buy screws for proflista in the same place where you buy corrugated board. This will avoid problems with the selection of color and shade of fasteners. Below are the approximate prices for roofing screws.

It is worth noting that the price of colored self-tapping screws for corrugated board is indicated for polyester coating. In addition, the table - only domestic producers. The price for the imported self-tapping screws for fixing the corrugated board is 8.50 rubles (high-quality powder coating according to the international scale RAL, manufacturer FISHER, HILTI, SFS, EKT, DAXMER).

All of us during the roof profiled flooring (corrugated board) faced with questions: how many screws do you need and how to fix it correctly, what is the consumption of screws for 1 m 2 of the profiled sheet and how to choose them correctly.

Scheme fixing the profiled sheet on the roof with screws. The number of screws that are required per one square meter of coverage is five to six pieces for the installation of the fence and six to eight for the roof.

When attaching a profiled sheet, you need to consider its thickness, dimensions, for better connection and to avoid unnecessary consequences. In this article, we will analyze how to calculate the number of self-tapping screws and for which profilists correctly apply them.

When arranging the roofs with profiled flooring, the correct length must be selected, so that it would be larger than the roof slope. to the wooden crate by self-tapping screws. Also you can use a metal crate, because self-tapping screws drill metal when screwing. For roofing use hardware, manufactured by Hilli, EKT, SFS, Fischer, whose diameter should be 4, 8, 5.5, 6.3 mm, with a length of 19-250 mm. Also you can buy products of domestic manufacturers, whose diameter is not less than 6.3 mm.

Selection of screws and their number for the roof is made so that the length of the threaded part of the screw was more than the length of the bundled package not less than 3 mm.

When buying screws, you need to consider their quantity with a margin, as well as their quality. The installation of self-cut screws of high quality can be made and without previously made holes. With the correct method of fixing them and calculating the amount of corrugated board is used for roofing as well as for walls inside and outside the building.

There are three main types of profiled sheeting that are often used:

  • roofing;
  • walled;
  • carrier.

Roofing has a large height and is used for roofing. Wall - with a smaller volume. Bearing - used for load-bearing structures due to its large thickness. At the same time, forms are completely different and require special approach to fixing.

Rules for fixing corrugated board

An example of correct screwing in self-tapping screws. When manually tightening, it is necessary to control the force so that there is no tugging (this is fraught with damage to the insulation layer).

A properly prepared surface must be present for fixing. Profiled sheeting is fastened in the place of fitting to the crate of the trapezium trapezoid wave. With this method, there is no lever between the point at which the force is applied to the screw and the attachment point. To reduce the wind load of each wave of the trapezoid, the corrugated board is fastened to the lower and upper perimeters, and from the side of the wind bar are fixed to each battens. Profiled flooring with a width of 1100 mm and a length of 8000 mm with a step of a battens of 500 mm requires a distance between the screws no more than 500 mm. Conclusion: at the top 2 screws, from the bottom 2, plus the wind side - 16 pieces. In total, we need 20 screws per 1 sheet of material. Before installation, a hole drilled 0.3-0.5 mm larger in the proflist than the diameter of the screw. Screwing screws produced at an angle of 90 degrees. This is necessary to eliminate the possible appearance of through holes in the roof.

  1. Drills - only with low speed of revolutions of the cartridge.
  2. Screwdriver is a simple and reliable manual method.

The use of any other or these tools requires considerable skill and safety.

The laying of corrugated board with a thickness of 0.5 to 1 mm and a length of 2 to 12 meters starts at the right or left end. At the edges, the corrugated sheet must be 40 cm. We install the first profiled sheet and attach it with a single screw to the skate. After fixing the second one screw to the ridge. All the time we follow that the edges of the sheets lie on one line and the corrugated sheet does not bend. At the top of the wave, we fasten the overlap of sheets with one screw. So we fix the other three sheets. After aligning their bottom edge, firmly fasten them along the entire length. The horizontal overlap of the sheets is allowed from 10 cm. Thus, from 4 to 8 screws are used for 1 m2.

Features of installation of walled corrugated board

Mount it to the wall starting from the right corner. Before installing on a wall, you need to check the surface for unevenness. After fixing the wooden crate or bolt. To ensure a good fit of the sheet and good fastening control the distance of the bolt. It should be about 0.5 mm. The subsequent profilist is attached to the previous one with an overlap. Thus, the capillary groove of the first proflist is covered. Work requires careful monitoring to avoid distortion. At the bottom, you need to leave a gap of 2 to 4 cm for ventilation space under the corrugated board. If desired, fill with heat insulation or soundproofing the space between the profiled sheet and the crate. begin with the bottom corner and go to the top. During the fastening, you must leave a minimum distance between the screws and the supporting structure. When the dimensions of the profiled sheet are 1250 mm wide and 10,000 mm long, 45 screws are required. On average, a profiled sheet of 1 m 2 requires 5 to 8 pieces.

Here is another way to calculate the number of self-tapping screws for fastening the profiled sheet

Take the scheme layout of corrugated board. For example, profiled fiber with a width of 1000 mm, length of 12 200 mm. In each case, you need to know exactly the data in order to avoid inaccuracies. The profilist is attached to the outermost supports by each wave and through one wave to the intermediate ones. Between each other, the sheets are fixed with self-tapping screws with a distance of 1 m from the support, the pitch of which is 250, 500 and 1000 mm. Multiply the number of sheets, add extreme hardware plus a percentage of the marriage. We count the lower self-tapping screws. Total obtained 6-9 pieces per 1 m 2.

Screw - a rod with a head, having a special thread, and designed for various kinds of  fasteners. By screwing the screw into the desired material, it creates a new thread in it.

Self-tapping for corrugated board: types

The main fastening element for the corrugated board  - Of course, self-tapping. Self-tapping screws are made of galvanized steel. The finished product (self-tapping screw) is completed with a neoprene (neoprene-synthetic rubber) washer.

The modified shape of the screw allows you to screw it without drilling with a drill. Given the future of the self-tapping, it must be selected carefully.

Self-tapping roofing

It should have a diameter of 4.8 to 6.3 mm, and a length of 19 mm to 250 mm. The head of the self-tapping screw, which has a 6-tapered shape, greatly speeds up the work. Thanks to this head, you can use an electric drill with a smooth start, as well as a screwdriver.

Important note: the thread length on the self-tapping should be 3 mm longer than the total width of the parts to be joined.

Self-tapping screws for facade and fence

  Several types of screws can be used to fix the corrugated board to a facade or a fence (separately):

  1. Self-tapping screw with presshead (sharp or bit-shaped tip)
  2. Self-tapping screw with countersunk head
  3. Self-tapping screw with semicircular head

Also there are self-tapping screws with a spherical, cylindrical and hexagonal heads.

Features of self-tapping screws for corrugated board

First you need to learn and remember: self-tapping screws with a rare thread pitch are designed for wood, and self-tapping screws with a more frequent thread pitch for metal. From which it can be concluded: if the lath is wooden, then a self-tapping screw is used with a rare thread pitch, and if it is metal, then with a more frequent thread pitch.

Rubber washers for self-tapping screws come in different diameters. It is better, if possible, to use a washer with a larger diameter. In the process of screwing, a vulcanization process will occur, due to which the moisture protection will be reliably provided.

Important! The washer can only be used once. It is not recommended to rewind it from place to place.

On each self-cutter there must be a duct for removing chips. Otherwise, the space will be filled with chips and the screw may break.

Technical characteristics of screws

Why are special screws needed for roofing corrugated board?

Screws that have a sharp tip or slot in the form of a straight cut, as well as a cross are not suitable for fixing the corrugated board for the following reasons:

  1. The point of the screw does not give  the ability to drill a hole in the corrugated board without pre-heeling. To the corrugated board is applied the effort leading to its deformation, which, as a result, spoils the galvanized and polymer layers of the sheet.
  2. If a normal screw  screw to the limit, then his hat will not allow the corrugated sheet to deform under the influence of the sun, which can lead to twisting or warping the sheet.
    If the same screw is not screwed to the end, a gap is formed in which rain and other precipitation will fall, which will lead to corrosive processes on the sheet and crate, if it is metal.

In order for the above  processes did not occur, a special type of screw - "roofing" - was created. The roofing screw has a drill-shaped end and a 6-tipped head.

The force exerted on the screw during wrapping, thanks to the hexagon head, is 1.5 times (cross slot), and sometimes even six times (slot in the form of a slot) is smaller than when screwing the screw. The drill-shaped end of the roofing screw allows it to be screwed without prior heeling.

The combination of such technical properties  allows to speed up work and not to spoil profiled sheeting. A roofing screw can also be screwed into a thin sheet: it can easily cope with its fasteners.

At the edge of the hexagon head are small bevels-protrusions, with which the screw is very simple and convenient to attach to the screwdriver, and it also contributes to the effort of the entire structure. The roof screw is supplied with a rubber sealing washer.

Thanks to this washer, the corrugated board is not scratched, and moisture and other atmospheric elements do not get into the structure.

Where should the corrugated sheet be fastened?

As a rule, manufacturers  profiled sheets are recommended to fix them with self-tapping screws by screwing them into the bottom of the sheet.

It is strongly recommended not to screw the self-tapping screw on a wave of corrugated board. This is due to the fact that if the sheet is attached to a wave, it will be less securely attached than the other way around.

Plus, in this way, the sheet is less susceptible to thermal deformation and more securely attached to the structure.

But in each rule there are exceptions. When it is better to fasten it to the notches, in order to avoid creating an artificial waterfall. This is because no one knows how long the rubber gasket that comes with the kit can last.

From this conclusion: fasten the corrugated sheet with a screw through the top of the wave. The screw must pass the entire height of the wave and the thickness of the crate.

Calculation of the number of screws necessary for work

Number of screws  for fastening the profiled sheet depends first of all on the designation of the future structure. For example, if the place is windy or with a lot of precipitation, for example snow, then the number of self-cuts per square meter will be higher.

For example, if you install a fence from the corrugated board on the beach, the consumption of screws will be higher than in a place more calm. Profiled sheeting is used as material for fence, facade, garage, etc. And in each of these cases, the calculation of the number of screws will be different.

Calculation of the number of screws for the fence

The number of screws that will be needed for the fence depends on the number of logs. Usually one profiled sheet is fastened with 3 screws to the lag. If you have 5 lag, you need 15 screws.

The general formula:

  3 * X * K = number of screws, where

X  - number of logs,

K  - the number of profiled sheets.

Calculation of the number of screws for the installation of corrugated board on the facade of the building and other structures

When the corrugated board is mounted on the facade of the building, it is fixed with a screw through the wave with binding fastening in places of overlap of one sheet to the other. Depending on the operating conditions (snow, wind), the distance between the screws for the length of the sheet should be from 0.5 m to 1 m.

A sheet of 2 meters long must be screwed with 3 rows of screws, which must be arranged in checkerboard order. If the terrain is very windy, it is recommended to mount in each wave.

As such, there is no general formula for calculating the number of self-tapping screws, since this is a strictly individual procedure. It is necessary to calculate the number of self-cuts taking into account weather conditions per sheet and multiply by the total number of sheets.

How many self-tapping screws are needed per sheet of corrugated board. Calculation of kg / m2

It is believed that the nominally-oriented  number of screws per 1 m2 profiled coating - 8 - 9 pcs. Based on these data, you can easily calculate how many screws will be needed for fixing, for example, a roof.

By such simple calculations we get useful or as it is also called the working area of one profiled sheet. Then multiply the obtained area by 9, i.e. on the number of screws, and we estimate the approximate number of self-cuts per 1 m2.

Based on the total area data  profiled sheet and the number of screws per 1 m2, we determine the total number of screws.

The presented rough calculation takes into account all the screws necessary to fully mount the roof. Self-tapping screws are taken into account for the cornice and windshields, chimneys, ventilation pipe aprons and others.

When you buy screws, of course you do not need to count them individually, because for each brand of self-tapping its nominal weight is known.

For example, one thousand pieces of self-tapping roofing with a diameter of 4.8 mm and a length of 25 mm, has a weight of 3.5 kg. One thousand pieces of roofing screws with a diameter of 6.3 mm and a length of 152 mm, has a weight of 45 kg.

Roofing screws are already sold pre-packaged for packages of 6000, 2000, 1000, 500, 250, 200, 100 pieces. The largest number of large self-tapping screws in one package is 1000 pcs.

Tools for screwing self-tapping screws

As already described above, self-tapping screws come with different types of  heads. And therefore, before buying screws, make sure that there is a suitable nozzle on your screwdriver or screwdriver.

In general, a set of their baits is best to maximize at every opportunity. Also you need to purchase spare attachments, as there are many works, but there are no eternal materials and tools.

Important! The best nozzles are made from tool steel with reinforcing additives.

Do not spend money on cheap and substandard sets, especially if you intend to work hard, because in a couple of days you will have to purchase a new set.

When mounting profiled plates it is best to use a screwdriver: to work with it at times faster and more convenient

General technology of self-tapping screws

In the place reserved for the screw, it is necessary to make a small notch (groove) with an awl.

Then it is necessary to set the screw in the desired position (groove) and slowly rotate it until it starts to create a thread in the material.

When the screw has started to screw in, you can safely twist it.

At the end, it is necessary to gradually reduce the speed, so as not to accidentally damage the head of the product.

A few tips:

  1. Do not cut the corrugated board with a bulgarian.  This will quickly lead to corrosion at the cutting site. Use metal scissors.
  2. Choose a screwdriver  for a roof size of 4.8 × 28.
  3. Remember! Quality self-tapping screws are always marked.  Forgery markings, basically, do not have.
  4. The most famous brand of self-tapping screws is Ferrometal and SFS. These screws are subjected to high-level quality control. Self-tapping screws are manufactured in Europe and then tested for critical loads.

The whole batch of screws is subjected to an exposure of 20,000 oscillations by 5 degrees, 100 oscillations by 15 degrees, 200 oscillations by 10 degrees. If the structure of the metal remains unchanged, it means that the screw will withstand 50 years or more of life of any metal structure. In the kit in these self-tapping screws there is only EPDM-gasket.

The roof of any house must be reliable. Strongly protect the structure from snow, wind and rain.

Require less energy and money to build it. Match the aesthetic needs of the owner.

That's why many prefer corrugated sheet(metal profiled sheet), as the best option  when erecting the roof.

Its advantages:

  • polymer protection keeps it from corrosion;
  • he is indifferent to climate surprises;
  • not toxic;
  • resistant to fire;
  • is diverse in color and types;
  • is affordable.

Does it method of fixing the corrugated board with self-tapping screws  another advantage of it? - Yes, there is nothing complicated in this. The main thing is to know what and how to do.

Technical characteristics of the profiled sheet.

Fastening of the profiled sheet on the roof is carried out by roofing screws.  The large area of the sheet, the stiffness of the metal and the light weight create a load on the fastening elements. The reliability of the fastening depends on the stability of the roof with strong gusts of wind. The form of the frame is taken into account: it can be metal or wooden.

  • Self-tapping screws, which are attached to a metal surface, are made with fine carving and a tip, like a drill. With high strength, they are easily screwed into the metal surface without requiring holes.
  • Self-tapping screws designed for wooden frames are very similar to simple screws, only with a large head diameter. Their sturdy steel is also capable of penetrating the roofing profiled without drill.

The fixing screws come with a different head: cylindrical, hexagonal, semicircular and spherical. Slots also differ. They can be in the form of an asterisk or a cross. Figured or straight.

Self-tapping device

For the most profiled sheeting fit self-tapping screws with a special sealing rubber gasket (EPDM). Contact with the metal surface is so dense that it eliminates the risk of water entering through the junction. This is facilitated by a special ledge along the edge of the hexagon. It strengthens the strength of the head and adds reliability to the seal.

Self-tapping screws for roofing from corrugated board are easy to match and in color, since they are produced with a different decorative coating, which also has a protective property.

NOTE!

When selecting fasteners, choose quality, but not the price. After all, they have to withstand significant loads. Steel should be strong, and the tip should be properly sharpened.  Not a good-quality cheap screw for roofing from the profiled sheet can break and ruin the profile.

The presence of marking indicates the quality of fasteners.  It is worth choosing self-tapping screws with elastic thick (2 mm) neoprene gasket. The zinc coating should be within 12 μm. Then they will last a long time and will not rust.  You can check the quality by yourself: the pliers squeeze the washer with EPDM and check the integrity of the paintwork. The gasket should not go away from the place on the metal washer.

How to correctly calculate the consumption of self-tapping screws per 1 m2 of profiled sheet for roofing

Features of fixing corrugated board

Screws screw into that part of the sheet that fits snugly against the frames of the frame. From below and from above into each wave.  And from the sides - in the crate step of 50 cm. To sheets in the places of overlap fit tight, fastening is made in checkerboard pattern, through the comb.  For strength, pieces of the profiled sheet are joined together using self-cutters of 20 mm length.

How to properly screw the screwdriver

How many self-cutters per 1 m2 of profiled sheet for roofing

Calculation is done before installation works. To fix a square meter of profiled sheet, 7 - 9 screws are required.  This number is multiplied by the number of metal sheets that are prepared to cover the entire surface of the roof. However, you need to buy with the expectation that the screws can break or be lost.

What lath is needed for roofing

The lining on which the profiled sheet is mounted can be metal or wooden. It all depends on the purpose of the structure.  For production or household buildings it is made of metal. The roof slope is minimal, the load is considerable, so the frame must be more stable.

AT residential buildings  With a steep slope of the roof under the crate use wooden workpieces.  Dimensions for timber - 40 mm by 40.  It is allowed 50 mm to 50. The thickness and width of the board are 32 mm and 100 mm, respectively. These standards are used for covering a profiled roofing sheet.

In connection with the expected load and the angle of inclination of the roof, the lath has a different pitch.

Distance between the edges of the boards in 30 - 50 cm  If the angle of inclination is   15 degrees or more.

At less than 15 degrees depends on the type of profiled sheet.

  • Profiled sheeting with marking C20  requires a continuous crate. The overlap of adjacent sheets is 20 cm. This is approximately the length of one wave.
  • Profiled sheeting C35  steljut on a skeleton with a step of 30 sm at the same lapping.
  • Profplast C44  mounted on the crate in 50 cm increments.

The angle of 15 degrees provides   step in 30 - 40 cm  with negligible overlapping in 10 - 15 cm.

Mounting the profiled sheet with the help of requires that the fasteners are two times longer than the wedge board. If the beam width of 75 mm, then the screw should be 150 mm.

Types of lathing for profiled

At the expected significant loads, the frame is mounted in two layers. The lower crate parallel to the ridge is made with a discharged step of 50 - 70 cm.

How to properly fix the roofing profiled sheet to the crate

With a competent choice of the type of material and fasteners on the roof - the process is not complicated. It is important to follow the rules of fixing and laying roofing.

Fixing of the profiled sheet by screws on the roof is made in the following order:

  1. Before starting work, the wooden base treated with antiseptic. In the future it will save wooden frame  from destruction and extend the life of the roof.
  2. The reliability and strength of the roof surface will depend from the density of adherence of metal sheets to the frame. Protection of the structure from the influence of moisture, wind, temperature changes is one of the main functions of the roof.
  3. So, how to fix the profiled sheet on the roof? The metal is attached to the crate in the lower part of the corrugation.  The overlap of the leaves on each other in one row is one, two waves. Between each other, the rows are connected with a burst of 1 to 2 cm.
  4. Fastening of the upper and lower part of the profiled sheet to the crate is carried out in each wave.  Fastening of the side parts - through time.
  5. Docking profiled sheets to each other is done by riveting with hand pistols. To prevent the washer from distorting itself, it should be screwed strictly vertically to the surface of the sheet.  So you ensure tight fit and tightness. The longer the screw, the more likely the risk of distortion.
  6. The joining of the elements of the ridge and the corrugated board through its protruding part will create a high fit. If the slope of the roof is not so flat, put additional gaskets for sealing, directly under the ridge to the bottom of the bending wave. With a strong downpour with the wind, the water will not fill the hay. Read also about.
  7. To save time on installation and to prevent uneven laying of sheets, they are installed in blocks of three or four pieces.
  8. It is important to cut the profiled sheet correctly.  It is better to do this with electric scissors. Suitable and manual. If you need to make cuts on the scythe, use an electric jigsaw.
  9. To ensure that the sections of the sections are not corroded,   they are treated with an anticorrosive agent.
  10. The wizard should be careful when on the roof, do not accidentally damage the surface of the deck. After 2 months, it is necessary to tighten the threads of the screws. When installing the roof, the profiled sheets could move and weaken the fixing density.

Consumption of profiled sheet per 1 m2 of roof: coefficient and calculation calculator

An example of calculation for a roof of complex shape

Skates of complex roofs, such as hip and mansard, are made in the form of trapezoids and triangles. Calculation of the amount of material required begins with a detailed layout of the coating sheets in the drawing. Specifying all overlaps and overhangs, determine the entire area. An accurate calculation will make it possible to minimize waste.

The length of the sheet is taken as a basis. Depending on the type of profplast, it varies from 500 mm to 6500 mm.

The number of fasteners is calculated as follows: If 9 self-tapping screws are required per square meter, then 9 times the coverage area.

More complex calculations are best entrusted to specialists.

Aluminum or steel galvanized profiled sheet, corrugated board, was widely used as a cheap and easy-to-install material for roofing, erecting fences and decorative finishes  buildings.

When installing corrugated board, the most convenient, durable, universal and accessible fixing method is the use of self-tapping screws. The durability of the erected structure and its protective properties largely depends on their quality.

Screwdriver  is a self-tapping screw, a rod with a head, covered on the entire surface by a self-tapping triangular thread, and equipped with a sharp drilling tip. The head is made according to the principles of ease of installation and aesthetics, if necessary.

Principle of fastening self-tapping screws  is similar to the principle of fastening screws: threaded product in the thread in the material firmly holds the fasteners in place. However, the editing process itself is much faster, because there is no need to pre-drill the material.

  For manufacturing self-tapping screws  high-strength carbon or stainless steel, brass. Scope of self-tapping screws is very wide - sheet metal, wood, plastic, plasterboard, roofing materials.

  Stand alone are self-tapping screws for concrete, requiring pre-drilling and the use of special plastic pads - dowels. Few than structurally differing from screws, such products are made of the best grades of steel.

Kinds of self-tapping screws for proflist

For laying the profiled sheet, several types of screws are used.

Depending on the place of application, this can be:

  • roofing screws  - for roofing and surfaces requiring a high degree of waterproofing. They have polymeric and anticorrosion coating, decorative painting. Equipped with a detachable large-diameter washer with a bonded synthetic rubber gasket;
  • self-tapping screws with press cup  - for less demanding on the quality of waterproofing structures, such as fences and facades. They have an anti-corrosion coating, sometimes decorative, under the color of the profiled sheet. The head of such self-tapping screws can be either hexagonal, or semicircular or countersunk with a slot, equipped with an integral washer to distribute the load to the material. When installing, if necessary, they are equipped with additional rubber gaskets.

According to the material to which the profiled sheet is fixed, self-tapping screws can be:

  • for wood  - with a rare thread and a sharp screw-threaded tip. Capable of drilling without bracing a metal profile up to 1.2 mm thick to a wooden base;
  • for metal  - with a frequent thread and a tip in the form of a drill for metal. Capable of drilling without fixing the corrugated sheet to a steel base with a thickness of up to 2 mm.

Features of self-tapping screws for corrugated board

For qualitative and convenient installation of the corrugated board, self-cutters must have the following three design features:

  1. Hexagon head  - much more convenient slotted during installation, less chance to damage the decorative coating of the head, a harmonious appearance with a profiled sheet;
  2. The presence of a large area washer - reduces the probability of deformation or rupture of a thin profiled sheet at the point of attachment, extends the service life of the fasteners under conditions of stress and corrosion;
  3. Synthetic rubber gasket  - increases the efficiency of the washer and provides waterproofing fastening.

Technical characteristics of screws

The table gives x the characteristics of a roofing screw for fixing to a wooden crate.

Why do I need special screws for the corrugated board?

  • Absence of a wide washer  will lead to rapid deterioration of the corrugated board in the place of attachment under the influence of variable loads, this can lead to the detachment and complete exit of the profiled sheet.
  • Simple screws do not stick well  in a thin metal base, this leads to the impossibility of mounting the profiled sheet on the structure of the metal profile.
  • Profiled sheeting is processed all over the surface  protective coatings, when screwing fasteners, their local destruction occurs, the place of which must be sealed with an elastic gasket.
  • Screws need preliminary drilling, this reduces the strength of the joint and increases the workload by half.

Where in the profile sheet
  do you have to screw the fixing screw?

According to the recommendations of manufacturers, self-tapping should be done in the places where the sheet meets the crate-in the lower part of the wave. This will help avoid deformations and achieve the most tight fit.

However, with the fast installation of low-quality cheap roof, using not recommended for roof fasteners, the "slate" attachment technique in the upper part of the waves can be justified. This will avoid the massive flow of water in the event of depressurization of the junction.

Determination of the required number of fasteners and their dimensions

Quality self-tapping screws  - quite expensive material, so before buying them, you should calculate everything. It is important not only the quantity, but also the necessary parameters of self-tapping screws. The length of the screw should exceed the total thickness of the profiled sheet and the base by at least 3 mm.

When fastening to a metal, it is worth giving preference to screws of a larger diameter - 5.5, 6.3 mm. Counting the required number of fasteners has some special features depending on the installation site.

For fixing the corrugated board to the fence:

  • each sheet of 1.1 m wide is fastened to 10-15 self-tapping screws, depending on the number of logs-horizontal bars between posts, 6 self-cuts per 1 lag;
  • the extreme screws are screwed into the overlap and 2 sheets are fastened, which means that 8-12 self-tapping screws are needed per sheet;
  • to calculate the number of sheets, it is necessary to take the length of the fence and divide by the width of the sheet without overlap, for a standard 118 cm sheet this length will be 110 cm;
  • the number of lags is calculated based on the height of the fence. The lower lag is fixed at a distance of 30 cm from the ground, the upper lag is at a distance of 10 cm from the top edge of the sheet, if the gap between them exceeds 1.6 m, it is recommended to add one more horizontal bar along the center.

For fixing the corrugated board to the roof:

For work with facades and buildings:

  • calculation of self-tapping screws produce approximately, similar to the roofing to each perimetrical transverse beam of 3 screws per sheet;
  • transverse lath can be performed  in increments of 0.5 to 1 meter, depending on the material and the strength requirements;
  • longitudinal crate is performed  with a step of 1.1 meters, if the step of the transverse beam exceeds 0.8 meters, then 1 additional fastener should be installed in each span in the span;
  • windows, doors, corners of the building  on the contour require additional fastening in steps of 0.3 m.

How many self-cuts per sheet of corrugated board - calculation by weight and per 1 sq. M of coating:

  • on average per square meter  coating leaves from 6 - 7 samorezov for a fence, up to 8 - 9 for roofs;
  • when buying screws  It is not necessary to calculate everything to pieces, a small stock is useful in case of marriage or accidental damage;
  • self-tapping screws are sold in packages with the specified weight, if their approximate number is calculated, it is enough to just weigh the required amount of material.

Technique for fixing corrugated board with self-tapping screws

When planning the use of a profiled sheet, it is necessary to take responsibility for selecting the necessary material and calculating the fastening scheme. By making a crate or frame according to the recommendations, you can proceed with installation.

Materials and Tools

  • Profiled sheet  - it is advisable to buy immediately the right length, produce a corrugated sheet up to 12 m long. The thickness of the metal and the height of the wave is selected based on the recommendations for strength. The number of sheets is rounded to a larger, taking into account side overlaps between sheets of 8 cm and vertical 20 cm.
  • Self-tapping screws - roofing or with a press cup  depending on the requirements for waterproofing, for metal or for wood, depending on the material of the crate / carcass.
  • Screwdriver or drill with a nozzle  - a bit for hexagonal heads. For a thin sheet, it is possible to use a wrench.
  • Roulette, pencil.
  • Hacksaw, metal scissors. Bulgaria can be used only for low-quality works with subsequent full coating of the coating.
  • Cord, level.

Sequence of work execution

  1. Calculation, selection and delivery necessary materials . The profiled sheet must be bought on special pallets and carefully unloaded to avoid damage to the protective layer.
  2. Installation of roofing for walls or walls,  frame for fence, according to the requirements of strength. Vertical beams should fall on the side overlapping sheets.
  3. For wall covering  - installation of heat insulation material.
  4. Cord tension  horizontally to align the bottom edge of the profiled sheet.
  5. Installation of the first unit  from three sheets in a lateral overlap on one wave. Installation is carried out, starting with the lower end sheet, the side is selected based on the convenience of the installers. The sheets are carefully attached first to 1 screw, after careful alignment of the block - completely.
  6. The subsequent fastening of the profiled sheet along the entire length of the structure. Fasteners are produced in each lower part of the wave along the lower and upper crate, and through one wave over the rest of the surface. Screws must be screwed strictly perpendicular to the surface.
  7. If the length of the sheet is not enough,  mount additional rows of profiled sheet with a lap top. The size of the overlap is 20 cm, if there is no lathing under the lapping - the sheets are fastened with rivets to each wave, and if necessary overlapping is treated with a sealant.
  8. Cutting and mounting of marginal sheets or sheets with production holes.  Fastening sheet self-tapping to a continuous horizontal crate for such zones should be done in each wave, to the vertical - in increments of 30 cm.
  9. Installation of additional elements, the distance between the fasteners is 30 cm.
  10. Checking the design for scratches, treatment of problem areas with an anticorrosive solution or paint.
