Build brick fence  at the dacha with their own hands

Brick fences are strong and durable. It is this advantage that contributes to the popularity of this type of fencing. Such a design can withstand strong impacts. For its hardening, several layers of bricks are sometimes used.

If the fence is made taking into account all technical requirements, it can last for 50 years and even more. Not every material can boast such performance characteristics.

Advantages and disadvantages of fencing

The main advantages are the following:

  • does not require care;
  • does not need painting;
  • there is no need to clean it;
  • it fits well into the countryside;
  • hides the site from the curious looks of passers-by;
  • provides security.

Nevertheless, there is a brick fence and its shortcomings. These include:

  • the appearance of high-altitude (a touch of white color, which is formed on the surface of the brick). This plaque is the result of the crystallization of salts on the surface of the material and is poorly removed;
  • the need for a thorough selection of bricks. If poor quality material is used, in bad weather conditions (rain, snow), it may begin to crumble in a few years. The problem may be solved by installing an additional visor over the fence, but this will lead to large costs;
  • a high price and laborious work on erecting such a fence.

The construction can be built independently. This requires certain skills in the field of construction and knowledge of all stages of this type of work.

Types of brick for the fence

Before you begin the construction of the enclosing structure, you need to determine the type of material for it. Best suited brick, which is used for facing works   (for example, red clinker). Such material costs a little more, but it is not only durable and reliable, it also gives the fence a more aesthetic appearance.

When constructing a structure, you can use ceramic brick. It differs in that it has a rough surface. And the choice of several shades will give the fence a unique look. As for the pillars, they are also often made of bricks. And, you can use the same type as for the fence.

To save money, they sometimes use silicate brick. Externally, the construction will noticeably lose fences from the material described above, but in terms of reliability, it is in no way inferior to its more expensive "competitors." In addition, such fencing can later be revetted.

Preparation for construction

The preparatory stage begins with preparing a drawing and performing measurements. This will allow you to calculate the amount of costs, as well as the optimal step of the location of the fence posts, which will carry the main load (together with the foundation). The distance between them is usually two to three meters.

Next step - cleaning of the territory, on which the construction will be erected. First of all, the grass is removed. This can be done either by an oblique, or lawnmower or trimmer. It is also necessary to clear the place of bushes, trees and debris (it is important to remember that when cutting trees it is necessary to remove the roots, otherwise they can interfere with construction).

Tool selection

Before you start the erection of a brick fence, you need to prepare the appropriate tool:

  • To mix the solution you will need a trough. A simpler option is to rent a concrete mixer.
  • For transportation of mixtures and materials it is desirable to prepare several buckets and a wheelbarrow.
  • When preparing the foundation, you can not do without a shovel.
  • In the process of laying bricks to level the mortar, a trowel is useful.
  • At the stage of marking, a roulette is used, as well as a square.
  • To control the horizontal and vertical planes, you need a plumb line or a building level.
  • Using the rule, the front part of the masonry is checked.
  • Layout of rows is carried out by means of orders.

Foundation under the fence

Then you can start building the foundation. The marking is done with the help of pegs, on which a thin rope or line is wound around the perimeter of the future structure. It is important to pay attention to the fact that the angles must be straight. At the same stage it is necessary to determine the location of the gate and gate. There are places where the poles will be located.

For a brick fence, band foundation, the depth of which should be at least 60 centimeters (ideally, the depth of the trench should be about 1 meter).

As for its width, this aspect depends on the type of masonry, as well as the expected height of the entire structure (usually the fence is built in half a brick, and its height does not exceed two meters). Where the pillars are supposed to be, in addition hammered metal pipes  to strengthen the structure.

The trench of the foundation is filled with gravel (from time to time it must be watered to achieve shrinkage). The formwork is installed along the entire length of the future structure. It is recommended to immediately prepare all materials for pouring, as it should be carried out in one day (to avoid joints). To reinforce the base, it is possible to use reinforcement, for this purpose it is laid along the entire perimeter. The foundation dries within seven days, then it should be covered with a compound that will protect against moisture absorption.

The construction of pillars

The supports for this fence are of several types:

  • one-and-a-half, their thickness is one and a half bricks;
  • double, their thickness is two bricks.

It should be noted that the pillars may have other dimensions, but this will be the exception rather than the rule. When building them, it is important to build on what function they will perform (support for a span, gate or wicket).

Masonry works are carried out evenly, with all the rules, as well as strapping, in order to make the structure more durable. For this purpose, it is possible to use reinforcement. Place between the pipe and the brick must be mortgaged and well tamped. To save concrete, you can use broken brick or stones. In the process of erecting pillars, you must constantly measure verticality with a plumb or level.

After the masonry work is completed, support should stand for two weeks. After that, they can be treated with impregnation, which will prevent the appearance of white spots (if the material used red brick). To ensure that moisture does not get on top of the structure and does not accumulate there, it is recommended to provide a special hood (made of metal, ceramics, concrete or wood).

Masonry fence

For masonry a cement mortar (water, sand and cement) is used. When constructing spans, one row is usually made. However, if planned high construction, it is better to do two rows. Multicolored bricks can be used to create a unique pattern, but it is necessary to plan this in advance, at the stage of project preparation.

For self-construction follow these instructions:

  1. In the process of work, you should constantly monitor the level. To do this, it is recommended to use a stretched twine (a prefabricated frame frame is also suitable for this purpose). The volume of solution between the rows should be the same. Excesses are removed before they dry up.
  2. Professional builders recommend using the orders (they are mounted at the corners with the help of nails). Apply the mortar to the brick with a trowel. The same tool you need to remove the excess. And in order for the materials to have better coupling, the brick is pre-soaked in water.
  3. After laying, the joints are processed. For this purpose, either a conventional solution or formulations that can be purchased in building stores are used. An important point is the waterproofing of the fence (the same principle applies as for the protection of poles).
  4. The top of the fence is laid with a roofing felt and fixed with nails. After this, the solution is added liquid glass, while constantly stirring. As soon as the moisture disappears noticeably, the material obtained is laid out on the surface of the roofing material in the form of a gable roof.
If there is no desire to carry out these works, it is recommended to install special skates made of ceramics, metal or wood. The material of the skate ridge should be in harmony with the material of the hood on the poles (this also applies to the color).
  5. The final stage of the construction of the fence is jointing (if desired). This technique is performed using special spatulas with different incisions. The tool is held at the joints in the brickwork to give them a more noble appearance. As a result, interesting solutions are obtained.

Major mistakes in construction

When constructing this type of fencing, there may be some shortcomings that can significantly affect the appearance and functionality. These include:

  • Incorrect definition of the distance between poles (most often too long distance). The support elements of the fence are calculated under certain loads. Even a small excess of them can lead to very negative consequences, down to destruction.
  • Before you begin the erection of the foundation, you need to correctly determine the depth of the trench. In general recommendations this parameter can reach from 50 centimeters to one meter. Nevertheless, in each specific case it is necessary to proceed from the depth of freezing of the soil. Another important point is the size of the foundation itself.
  • A typical mistake is the concreting of the pillars in the clay soil. The result of this oversight may be the bulging of some support elements in the spring. This is because during the thaw period in winter the soil thaws unevenly and becomes unevenly saturated with water. With the onset of frost, the land, soaked unevenly, will react differently to frosts. Concrete is better on sandy ground, as it passes moisture well and does not promote extrusion of poles.
  • When laying, it is not recommended to use the brick that was signed at the factory with chalk. Such inscriptions are not deleted. The material should be made by one technology and preferably one lot.
  • It is not necessary to lead the masonry without a special template. Otherwise, there is a risk of incomplete filling of joints or solution on the front of the brick. As a result, you will have to change this element, as you can not rub it with strong acids - this can lead to loss of color.

How can I brick a fence?

If the main material is used, for example, silicate brick, its not quite plausible appearance can be hidden behind the lining. The material used is natural stone, besser, chipped granite, sandstone and so on. The very principle of the work is as follows:

  1. Before you start working, you need to attach a special mesh or welded mesh to the surface (in the second case, the thickness of the wire should not exceed a half millimeter).
  2. After that, the wall is plastered (this step is mandatory in order to avoid the appearance of voids between the brickwork and the facing material). In addition to the plaster, a special coarse-grained filler is applied to the fence to impart surface roughness (the thickness of the layer is not more than 30 millimeters).
  3. After the plaster dries, you can start the lining. Before applying the stone to the surface, it must be rinsed to ensure that there is no dirt, clay or sand on its surface (they can prevent adhesion). The solution is prepared from sand and cement in a ratio of 2 to 1. It is possible to add glue for outdoor work. The resulting mixture must be diluted with water.

An important feature of this type of work is that the solution is applied not to the fence, but to the stone. The size of the seam between individual tiles should not exceed one and a half centimeters. After the work is finished, the stones are washed with a special solution for removing dirt and covered with a compound that will protect them from the effects of climatic conditions.

With what can you combine such a fence?

Fence made of bricks can be combined with almost any building material. For example, it could be tree. In this case, the posts are made of bricks according to the method described above, and the span is made of wood.

At the same time, today it is often enough to find a combination of a brick fence and corrugated board. In contrast to wood, the metal profile is more durable, although somewhat inferior to it in terms of aesthetic parameters. More noble, but at the same time more expensive material is metal fence. It also blends well with brick.

Finally, there are fences, where the brick is combined with forging. Unlike previous versions, this is not suitable for everyone, since such fences completely open the entire interior space.

Alexey Shamborskiy, June 8, 2014

The reliable fencing of your house or plot is the most important task that must be done immediately after buying the land. The most rational solution in this case will be the use of a brick fence. Conducting the installation yourself will not be difficult, and the received object will be able to serve its owner long and reliably.

So, how to make a brick fence with your own hands? The first thing the owner will need is the purchase of materials. Required cement mixture, brick, sand, gravel and naturally reinforcement, which will be a "load-bearing" component for fencing.

The purchase of a brick will be determined by the parameters of the selected material and the size of the brick fence being built by one's own hands. Depending on the thickness (in one or two bricks), the height (which can reach more than three meters) and the length of the fence, as well as the parameters of the material itself, it is also worth counting.

Instructions for the construction of a brick fence

To start constructing a brick fence with your own hands, you need to carry out the installation of the foundation and supporting fittings.

On the marked territory, which should be perfectly even, marks are placed under the "pillars". They can be located at a distance of 1.5 meters to 4 meters. In the excavated depressions (1.5 meters deep each) a support is inserted. It is set and according to the level of inclination and relative to the other elements. It is worth remembering that an ideally smooth line and absolutely even row should form.

After leveling, crushed stone and sand are poured into a slightly expanded depression. These layers are maximally tamped for the strength of the structure. The first step in building a brick fence with our own hands is completed. You can proceed to pour the foundation.

The most practical option will be the installation of a tape base. To do this, you need to dig a trench and install the formwork. After the sand cushion is arranged for a more secure anchoring and only then reinforcement is made.

Once the armature is laid, it is possible to make concrete and pour into the obtained substrate, ie it is necessary to pour the concrete into the holes and the base. The freezing of the structure will depend directly on the materials used and the depth of the excavated site. Frequently used parameters are 50 cm deep and 25 cm wide. This stage of making a brick fence with your own hands, the video of which is in the article, can be studied in more detail.

After complete hardening of the concrete, you can proceed to the immediate laying of bricks. But between the obtained base and the main part should be a high-quality waterproofing. For this task, you can use ruberoid or mastic.

The simplest masonry is a one-level design with a half-bricks offset. It has an attractive appearance. If desired, you can use materials of different colors and create patterns.

Construction begins with obkladyvaniya support components. It will take four elements to overlay each "pillar". The concrete should lie on the base and between the bricks. At the same time, the compilation should be dense. It is necessary to perform tapping to uniformly distribute the mixture and partially compact it.

  • Executing pillars
  • Choose the appearance of the brick fence
  • The construction of the socle and waterproofing
  • Execution of the blind area
  • Making caps and covering fence posts
  • If the owner a country house  wants to ensure for himself and his family full security, living in it, experts advise to pay attention to the brick fence. However, before the adoption of such a decision, it is necessary to thoroughly study how to use brick, since this capital construction refers to a rather expensive treat. It is necessary not only to make a drawing, but also to compile a detailed calculation.

But the finished fence will not only make the countryside unapproachable, but will also become an adornment of landscape design.

    Advantages of brick fencing

This structure is quite durable, despite the fact that it is subjected to negative environmental effects - temperature differences, different precipitation, impact groundwater. Even in such extreme conditions, a brick fence can serve more than 30 years.

The brick fence has a high degree of safety. With such protection, you can be completely confident in the inviolability of the home and simply protect from the views of curious passers-by. However, there are two options for making a fence. The first is made of bricks on a solid and reliable foundation, and the second performs a purely decorative function. The protection levels of these structures are different.

Brick fences have a respectable and elegant appearance. They can be seen not only near private houses, but also near administrative buildings. With a high level of security and long life, they are very beautiful and popular throughout the world, emphasizing the status of their owners.

Brick fence is able to decorate any suburban area, as it is easy to clothe or make additional decoration. It can be used as a basis for lighting a section or other additional details, decorating it with lamps or living plants.

Varieties of fences made of bricks

Currently, there are several types of fences, which are especially popular.

First, the brickwork is well lined. In this case, the construction can be built from inexpensive material, even used, and a beautiful appearance is achieved by using different materials for the facade.

Magnificent looks masonry, trimmed with decorative forging or wood. As a rule, a base is made of bricks, and the upper part is decorated with various elements.

Finally, a full-scale brick building is widely used, which must be done on a special foundation. The components of the structure are the installation of columns and visors. Upon request, the building is exposed to facing, additional decoration and decoration.

So, after weighing your capabilities and assessing all the pros and cons, you can build a brick structure. To save money, this fence can only be done from the side of the house facade. Having studied the technological process and knowing how to build a brick fence, in accordance with the drawings and the calculation, they purchase materials and start construction.

Building a foundation for a brick fence

The structure of the foundation can be calculated separately, and you can use the parameters of the foundation of the house, taking into account that it is executed correctly. For a brick fence, it is enough to make a strip foundation with a width of about 300 mm and a depth of 800 mm.

For pillars, the place in the trench needs to be slightly expanded to allow them to build on the foundation. After the trench is excavated, it is necessary to make a framework of reinforcement. And the skeleton is better to do not by welding, but by connecting the bars with wire. If you make the joint welds, then in this area and next to it will be one of the weak points of the design. The frame for a brick fence is laid only in those places where there is a masonry in the form of poles and canvases. And under it you need to make a hill, for example, in the form of stones. If the armature is in contact with the soil, it will quickly become unusable and simply rot.

    Executing pillars

The installation of poles for brick fence should be carried out near the entrance gates, and they must have inside the channels in order to perceive the load. Channel bars are welded in a special way - a "box", the width of their shelves is 160 mm. Then hang the gate. That is, the design will be such that on one side of the pillars the gate will hang, and on the other, the gate leaf will be located. Hinges or canopies for the gate and gate are welded first to the pipe of the square profile, which, in turn, is welded to the mortgage. Due to this, the load is distributed evenly, whereby the location of these elements can be changed.

On the surface of the opposite pillars of a brick fence it is necessary to make a feigned bar of a square tube. The bar is first welded to the mortises, and then to the metal rod inside the column. The role of the metal rod performs a small corner (100 mm), because the feigned bar perceives a small load. If it is very massive, then it needs to be carefully calculated.

Between the structures of the pillars, at the location of the gate, the frame is not executed. It is enough to make a small form here, welding the structure to pinch the channels. In other locations of the pillars, the use of ribbed reinforcement is sufficient, which is inserted into the already solidified concrete mortar. To tie the brick, which is performed every 4 rows, use a special masonry net with a marking of 100.

Concrete solution is made of cement grade 100, sand and gravel in the proportions of 1: 3: 6. The concrete is poured into the trench only after carrying out all the activities mentioned above.

Perhaps there is no other type of fence that would be compared to brick for durability, beauty and durability. Therefore, the desire of many owners of private plots is so great to build a brick fence with their own hands. Consider in great detail the process of building such a fence, let us compare all its shortcomings and advantages.

    • Reliable protection against penetration into the territory of unauthorized persons.
    • Resistant to any external influences (wind, snow loads, atmospheric precipitation, mechanical stress, etc.).
    • Attractive appearance.
    • Durable.
    • Does not require special maintenance during its operation.
    • It is prestigious, indirectly indicating the prosperity of its owner.

Among the shortcomings can be identified the following:

    • Large volume of land works during erection.
    • Large consumption of material (brick), its high cost.
    • A large expenditure of effort and time on the construction of such a fence, the complexity of the construction scheme.
    • Difficulties with transportation and its relatively high cost.

As can be easily seen from the above, you have to choose between the costs of effort, time and money and the subsequent quality.

    Basic principles of erection

Brick fence consists of two main parts - pillarslocated at some calculated distance from each other and walls (spans) between these pillars.
Pillars and walls are usually erected on a banded reinforced foundation, under which a trench is digging. Under the reliable fixation of the pillars, holes are digging. After the foundation is built, first the pillars are built, and then the walls.

    What materials will you need?

A brick fence with your own hands - needs the following materials:
    1. Brick  (basic building material)

You can use both ordinary ceramic, and facing, figured, etc. If you use a conventional brick, it is likely that after the construction of the fence you will also spend on its plaster to get a more aesthetic appearance. The dimensions of bricks can also be very different. Usually use single bricks. When buying, it should also be remembered that about 5% of the brick will have to be bought in excess of the calculation due to possible brick battles.

    2. Steel pipes   Pipes of square or circular cross-section with a diameter of approximately 60 mm under reinforcement of supporting brick pillars. The length of the pipes depends on the depth of their immersion in the ground and the height of the pillars. The usual height of poles is about 2-3 m without taking into account the height of the caps. Then the length of the pipes will be about 3-3.5 m.
The usual brands used are M200-300 (classes B15-22.5). Required for construction monolithic foundation, as well as for pouring into the interior of the pillars. Concrete can be purchased ready, or you can prepare it directly on the construction site from cement, sand and gravel or gravel.
    4. Materials for the construction of formwork.  Various boards, their parts and segments, new or used. Required for the construction of a foundation. You can rent ready formwork, if finances permit.

    5. Fittings for the construction of foundation armored carcass, knitting wire. Required for reinforcing the foundation. Includes smooth reinforcement (for vertical and transverse reinforcement) with a conventional diameter of about 6-8 mm, as well as ribbed, main reinforcement for longitudinal reinforcement with a diameter of 10-12 mm. The exact diameters depend on the calculation based on the size of the projected fence.

    6. Sand.  It will be required for making a masonry mortar, as well as for building a sand cushion under the base of the foundation. Fine career yellow sand for all these purposes is not good. Suitable river sand or any other large or medium-grained, does not contain clay in its composition.

    7. Cement.  It will be required for making masonry mortar. Portland cement is usually used. You can do without cement, buying a ready mix in the store, although it will cost, of course, more expensive than its independent manufacture. In this article it is supposed that the mix will be purchased by the owner already ready.
    8. Crushed stone.  It may be necessary in the event that it is planned to make a gravel bedding under the base of the fence.

    What tools do you need?

A brick fence with your own hands will require the following tools:

    • Shovel  - for digging trenches. In some cases, for example, if the length of the fence and the depth of the foundation are large, you can use the excavator.
    • Hand drill  - for drilling holes for the installation of support poles. If there is no drill, then you can use a conventional shovel, although it is not so easy to dig a relatively narrow pit with more or less vertical walls with a depth of 1 meter or more from it.
    • Welding machine  - is required in the event that the poles are additionally welded to the armo frame, and also if the bars of the armature are decided to be welded together.
    • Measuring instruments  - construction plumb line, level, theodolite to control the smoothness of the construction site, vertical and horizontal position of the pillars and walls of the fence.
    • Tools for brick masonry  - here you can include a trowel (trowel), a hammer, a wooden rail and a tool for jointing.
    • Waterproofing compounds or ruberoid  - Required for waterproofing the foundation. Instead, you can use bitumen or bitumen mastics.

Calculation (example) of construction materials required for construction. Before you start building a fence you need to first draw up its drawing, and then calculate the required amount of consumable material. Below is an example of the calculation of all the main materials. Today, such calculations can be done directly on construction sites on the Internet, using various online calculators. Nevertheless, to verify the correctness of the calculation, it is not superfluous to estimate the flow manually.

    Fence parameters

    The plot: rectangular 20 x 30 = 600 m (6 ares).
Gate: one piece 3 m long.
Wicket: one piece, 1 m long.
Fence height of the fence: 2 m.
      Masonry fence flanges: 1 brick.
      Pile laying: 2 bricks.
Used brick for poles: 250x120x65 mm.
Used brick for spans: 250x120x65 mm.
The used brick for the socle: 250x120x65 mm.
The thickness of the seam: 0.01 m.
Height of pillars without caps: 2.2 m.
      Length of span: 4 m.
Depth of the trench: 0.7 m.
      Trench width: 0.5 m.
The height of the foundation from the ground: 0.1 m.
      Sand cushion: 0,15 m.
      Crushed stone cushion: 0.2 m.
The presence of the socle: yes.
The height of the socle: 0.3 m.
      Masonry base: 2 bricks.
The diameter of the pipe for support: 0.06 m.

    Calculation

    Let 0.25 * 2 = A (twice the length of a single brick),
      0,25 * 0,25 = B (the area occupied by two single bricks),
      0,01 * 4 = C (quadruple masonry seam height),
      0,065 * 4 = D (quadruple height of a single brick),
      0,065 * 0,01 = E (thickness of the mason intertort seam),
0,065 + 0,01 = F (brick height taking into account the masonry seam).
      Then we have the following.
      The total length of the fence will be 2 * 20 + 30 * 2 - 1 - 3 = 96 m.
    Number of sections: 96 / (4 + 0,01 + A) = 21,3 pcs.
      Number of poles: 22 pcs.
Number of pipes for reinforcing poles: 22 pcs.
      The amount of sand for padding: 96 * 0.15 * 0.5 = 7.2 cu. m.
      The amount of rubble for padding: 96 * 0.2 * 0.5 = 9.6 cu. m.
The length of the metal supports under the reinforcement of the pillars: 2.2 * 3/2 = 3.3 m.
      Depth of pits for the installation of posts: 3,3 - 2,2 = 1,1 m.
      The amount of concrete under the foundation: (0,7 - 0,15 - 0,2 + 0,1) * 0,5 * 96 = 21,6 cu. m;
      The amount of concrete for support: (0,01 - 0,12 - 0,12 + A) * 2 = 0,54; 0.06 * 2 * 3.14 / 4 = 0.094; 0.54-0.094 = 0.446; 2.2 - 0.1 = 2.1; 0.446 * 2.1 * 22 = 20.6 cu. m;
      The amount of concrete in total: 21.6 + 20.6 = 42.2 cubic meters. m.
      Brick for the plinth (total): 96 * (D + C) * 394 * (A + 0,01) = 5787 pcs.
      Brick for spans (in total): (0,065 * B) + (0,01 * B) = 0,0040625 + 0,000625 = 0,0046875; 96 - 22 * 0.51 = 84.78; 84.78 * 0.25 * (2 - 0.3) = 36.0315; 2 * 36,0315 / 0,0046875 = 15373 pcs.
      Brick for poles (total): (2.2 - 0.1) / F * 6 * 22 = 3696 pcs.
      Total bricks total: (15373 + 3696 + 5787) * 0,05 + (15373 + 3696 + 5787) = 26099 pcs.
      Masonry mortar for the plinth: (C + D) * 96 * (0.01 + A) * 0.24 = 3.53 cu. m.
      Mortar solution for spans: 0.01 * B + 0.25 * E = 0.000625 + 0.0001625 = 0.0007875; 15373/2 * 0.0007875 = 6.053 cu. m.
      Masonry solution for the columns: (0.12 * 6 * E) + (0.51 * 0.51-B) * 0.01 = 0.000468 + (0.2601-0.066) * 0.01 = 0 , 002444; (2.2 - 0.1) / F * 22 * 0.002444 = 1.51 cu. m.
      Masonry mortar total: 6,053 + 1,51 + 3,53 = 11,1 cu. m.

    Preliminary, earthwork and construction work

All foreign objects and things should be removed in advance from the territory of the future building, so that they do not interfere with the execution of work. The area is cleaned from debris and leveled. You can control levelness with a level, theodolite and similar tools. On the perimeter of the plot in two rows are set pegs. The distance between the rows should be equal to the width of the future trench under the foundation. A rope is stretched through the pegs.

Further, also with the help of pegs, places are marked for the installation of pillars. Now you should dig a trench and pits under the pillars along the marked area. Pits can be excavated either manually with a shovel, or with the help of an ordinary hand drill. To dig a trench, you can use an excavator, especially if the length of the fence is quite large. The depth of the pits is approximately 1 m, and the trench is at a minimum of 0.5-0.6 m and depends on the height of the pillars and spans, masonry type, brick type, soil type and other factors.

Further on, a small layer (0.1-0.15 m) of moist coarse-grained or medium-grained sand is placed on the bottom of the pits and trenches as a sand cushion under the foundation and carefully compacted. You can lay a small layer of rubble or gravel on top of the sand layer to eliminate stagnation and drainage of water from under the base of the future foundation.

    Formwork construction

Further, boards are knocked down from the boards and then placed along both vertical walls of the trench along its entire length. The shields are always knocked down from the side that will be directed to the wall of the trench. It is important that the front side of the shields (the one that will be directed into the trench) should be flat. Large cracks in the shields are inadmissible. They should be fixed in advance with racks. The formwork height should slightly exceed the upper boundary of the future foundation. The trunks installed in the trench are knocked together transverse boards  and are supported from the outside to fix them in a strictly vertical position along the trench before pouring concrete. So we get a high-quality brick fence with our own hands.

The construction of reinforcing frame under the foundation and installation of poles.

Armocarcas are made of smooth and ribbed reinforcement by binding the intersections of longitudinal, transverse and vertical rods with a knitting wire. Instead of knitting, you can use welding - this is faster and more convenient, but less effective because of the lower strength of the armo-frame obtained in the future (weak work on bending under the action of vertical forces).

The longitudinal bars are arranged in two or three rows in each horizontal plane. The number of planes is two or three, depending on the height of the foundation and the design load on it. The distance between the nodes should be approximately 200 mm. Further, the made armo-frame is immersed inside the trench. Pits are installed in pits. Verify their verticality in all directions: the columns must have a strictly perpendicular orientation with respect to the plane of the earth's surface. To fix the posts in the desired position before pouring with concrete, it will be good to temporarily secure them with stones, sticks and other available materials. Another possible option is to tie or weld them to the armo frame.

    Fill with concrete

Now the concrete mixture should be poured into the trench and into the pits. Concrete can be used as a purchase, as well as self-made. It is important to pour all the concrete at a time to get a good strength of the entire foundation. It is known that concrete is gaining strength gradually, reaching on the 7th day 40% of its maximum strength.

During all these days, the monolith should be protected from possible atmospheric precipitation by wrapping it with a waterproof film. The obtained foundation is necessarily waterproofed by any modern means, for example, penetrating waterproofing, bitumen, etc.

Masonry of spans, poles and socle

Masonry begins with the erection of the socle, and if it is not provided for by the project, then, as a rule, from the pillars. The plinth is made on the basis of a foundation tape in 1.5, 2 or 2.5 bricks. The main purpose of the fence of the fence is a beautiful appearance. The height of the socle is usually about 300 mm, that is 4 rows of single bricks with regard to the masonry seams. Masonry for the pillars are usually used in 1.5 or 2 bricks. The idea of laying the pillars boils down to the following. Over the plinth in the marked places spread out columns of brick height, determined by calculation.

Bricks are surrounded on all sides by metal poles. The following construction is obtained: a metallic column inside and brickwork, forming the outer sides of the pillars. After completion of the masonry, concrete is poured into the brick pillars, and the top is covered with a special (usually metal) hood that prevents atmospheric precipitation from entering the pillar. Caps can both be made, and buy ready any colors and configurations. Flaps are usually made in 0,5, 1 or 1,5 bricks. The span is built directly on the base or on the foundation, if the base is missing. The height of the fence for masonry in 1.5 ordinary bricks is usually limited to 2.2 m, so for higher spans it is necessary to make a laying in 2 bricks. The height of the pillars usually exceeds the height of the spans by about 10%. On top, if desired, the span as well as the poles can be protected from atmospheric precipitation by a hood.

    General principles of masonry

Pre-soaked bricks are laid on the masonry mortar, previously applied trowel on the foundation for masonry. With it, too, the excess of solution formed during the laying of bricks is removed.

Brick fence with own hands - correct laying

The horizontal and vertical location of the bricks is checked with the help of a building level, which must be constantly applied to newly laid bricks. If any brick deviates from the vertical, it lies unevenly, then its position is corrected by tapping it with a hammer with a plastic or rubber tip. To correct the situation of several nearby bricks, a rake is usually used, which is taped with such a hammer.

When constructing a span, it is most convenient to control the horizontality of rows of bricks by extending a rope (cord) between adjacent pillars at altitudes approximately every 5 vertical rows of bricks. All clutches are made with binding bandages. If used facing brick, if additional finishing of the brick fence is not expected, then it is desirable to make the jointing during the masonry. An extension always looks beautiful. Even more beautiful is the color coding, which is done by adding dyes to the masonry solution.

As you saw the brick fence with your own hands - a rather complicated, laborious and expensive process. Nevertheless, you can do all the work yourself without the involvement of construction teams, but you need a very serious, careful attitude to the matter at all stages of construction and then you will receive a fence that will serve you for many, many years.
