Construction and repair by own hands

Drawing of a two-storey building from a profile pipe. We build a greenhouse made of polypropylene pipes: video. Hotbed from polypropylene

The greenhouses, the frame of which is made of this material, have the following advantages:

  • a small cost of all necessary components for construction;
  • simple installation and mobility - if necessary, you can disassemble and move to another location;
  • versatility - the structure of the frame can be made in different versions;
  • durability - polypropylene is resistant to decay and external factors, so the greenhouse can last at least 20 years.

To minuses of skeletons constructed from polypropylene pipes, it can be attributed that the weight of the overall design is relatively small, and after covering the material with greenhouse, having a large sail, can be carried down by a strong gust of wind.

2

To build greenhouses, there are many different schemes. But if you choose the usual classic option, then you can collect the greenhouse in two days. First of all, it is necessary to draw a drawing of the future greenhouse, according to which it is easier to calculate the required pipe footage. The amount of material will depend on the size of the structure.

After drawing up the drawing, it is necessary to purchase polypropylene pipes of large cross-section, from which the frame of the greenhouse will be erected. In addition to the basic elements of the frame, pipes of smaller diameter will be needed in order to connect the main arcs to each other, thus giving the rigidity of the whole structure in this way.

To mount the frame to the ground, you will need reinforcing bars 1.2 m long and of this diameter so that the rod freely enters the pipe made of polypropylene. The greenhouse assembly scheme includes the device of guard rails, which are made of edging boards. You can select boards with a cross-section of 150. The number of such elements and their length depends on the size of the greenhouse.

To fix the transverse elements of the frame, you will need to purchase plastic tees that are used for water distribution, or a wire made of galvanized steel. To complete the construction will need a reinforced polyethylene film for greenhouses and greenhouses or polycarbonate.

3

After you have chosen the scheme of assembling the future greenhouse and prepared its drawing, it is necessary to make a marking on the terrain. In the corners of the future greenhouse we drive pegs and pull the cord between them. Thus we get the perimeter of the structure. It is important to maintain the smoothness of the layout, which will require a building level and a corner. Angles should correspond to 90 degrees. To check the correctness of the marking, you can pull the cord from opposite corners. The diagonal distance between the corners must be the same.

Once the markup is completed, the next step is to install the frame from the boards. It is collected with the help of nails or wood screws. After fastening the boards into the inner corners, reinforcing bars are driven in. They will avoid skewing when assembling the frame.

Now you need to organize a reliable basis for fixing polypropylene pipes. To do this, you will need fastening reinforcing bars. First you need to make a hole with a garden drill. The depth is not less than 1 meter. If there is no drill, the rods are simply driven into the ground by a sledge hammer, but it is necessary to try to ensure that the projecting parts of the armature are as vertical as possible. As a result, above the surface of the earth, they should protrude centimeters by 25-30. They need to be located on the outside of the wooden frame, and their number is determined by the size of the greenhouse. The bars and basic elements of the frame of the greenhouse are set in steps of 50-70 cm.

4

The frame of the greenhouse, made of polypropylene pipes, is very easy to assemble. One end is put on the reinforcement wound in the ground and, gently bending, we put it into the opposite metal rod. The result is a semicircular arch. Thus, the whole frame is assembled.

After this, it will need to be strengthened by installing transverse stiffeners. They are also made of PVC pipes. They can be fixed to the arches with both ordinary steel wire and plastic tees. In this case, the fittings are worn on the arched elements in advance. After tees must be soldered for reliability to arcs or fixed with screws, which make it possible to disassemble the hothouse for the winter.

The number of stiffeners is determined by the dimensions of the structure. But in most cases, even if the size of the greenhouse is large, use should be at least two from each vertical side and on the arcs. Obligatory in this design is the installation of a cross-section ridge pipe. Without it, the film will simply sag under the weight of the rainwater.

5

For them, an edging board with a thickness of at least 4-5 cm or a cross-section of 5 cm, pre-treated with antiseptics, is required. A door frame is made of wood. The film on the door frame is fixed with screws through wooden thin slats so that it is resistant to wind.

On the remaining space of the end planes, the frame is also arranged from polypropylene pipes, which are attached to the last arc-shaped arch by the attachment of short pipe sections.

The variant of making ends without using a tree is as follows:

  1. A door frame is arranged from the polypropylene pipe.
  2. The door itself is made of pieces of pipes.
  3. Two or three loops are made from a piece of a large diameter pipe and welded to one of the jambs.
  4. To the door are welded as door hinges elements of smaller diameter in the same amount as on the door post.
  5. The door is hung on polypropylene hinges.

6

As it was said above, the greenhouse of polypropylene pipes is clad with reinforced polyethylene. To the edges it is fixed with plastic clips, and to the bottom part of the wood with screws through the rail. Clamps are made from pieces of PVC pipes of a larger diameter than arcs. Cut the required amount of 10-15 cm and each segment is sawn in one place along.

You need to stretch the material on one strip, applying to the bottom and fixing on two arched pipes. Then, spread out all over the structure and trimming it on each side, insert it every 15-20 cm on the clamp until the entire length is fixed. Then overlap the second, while the latches of the pipe with the adjacent material are alternately removed and fixed with two sheets of polyethylene.

7

Of course, greenhouses made of polypropylene pipes can be made not only in the arch version. There are many different schemes that you can use. For example, a variant of a double-hulled greenhouse is common. The stages of installation of the frame of the greenhouse will be as follows:

  1. Strapping of boards and fixing rods are installed as in the arch version.
  2. Vertical racks are then mounted.
  3. After using fittings, rafters to the ridge element are fastened to them using a matching tee.
  4. All "rafter" elements need to be further strengthened by a transverse stiff pipe on each side.

The hanging and fixing of the material is carried out as in an arched greenhouse.

8

It is often possible to see the frame of a greenhouse, which is made of polypropylene pipes. This material is much stronger and durable than film. It will cost more, but it will last much longer. The polycarbonate is fastened to the frame by special thermo-washers. And the sheets are joined together by a special profile. Polycarbonate should be stacked so that its internal channels are located strictly vertically.

It should be noted that polycarbonate can change its size in the event of temperature changes. Therefore, during its installation, it is necessary to leave the temperature gaps between the individual sheets. The construction lined with this material can be used and how. But this is the case if the drawings of the greenhouse and the assembly scheme provide for heating and appropriate additional insulation.

9

The service life of greenhouses, finished with any material, can be extended, following certain tips.

The structure of the frame from PVC pipes can be made folding and cleaned for the winter, thereby prolonging the period of its operation. In this version, fasteners are used on self-tapping screws. In autumn, after harvesting, it can be taken to a garage or a shed.

With a non-separable greenhouse, you will need to sweep away the snow all the time. It is possible to remove film for the winter and, having rolled up into a roll, to put in a dry place. In this case, it does not crack before time. But with stretching and lifting you need to take maximum care not to tear it.

Also some features in the care require and greenhouses of polycarbonate. In autumn or early spring, it must be washed completely, thereby destroying the pests and fungi that have disappeared at the corners.

In addition, if polycarbonate of insufficient thickness was used, and the frame was made with a large step or thin elements, then it is necessary to install vertical support posts for winter in order to prevent the roof collapse under the weight of the snow.

As you can see, it's quite easy to make a frame of a greenhouse, using PVC pipes, and to coat them with any material. All the work takes relatively little time, and the cost will depend on the type of translucent material used.

Recently, on suburban country plots  very often one can see such a construction as a compact and convenient prefabricated greenhouse made of polypropylene pipes. The huge popularity of such structures among amateur gardeners is due primarily to ease of use, reliability and low price. There will be such an easy construction not more than 2 thousand rubles, and it will last long enough. For comparison: the cheapest ready-made prefabricated factory greenhouse costs at dealers not less than 15 000 r.

How to build a greenhouse made of polypropylene pipes: preparing materials

Collect the classic arched PVC hothouse with your own hands, you can literally in a couple of days. Materials for its manufacture will need these:

  • PVC pipes designed for hot water supply are thick-walled (at least 4.2 mm). It is better to take a thicker version (with an internal diameter of not less than 16.6 mm).
  • Reinforcing rods of 75 cm in length and 10-12 mm in diameter.
  • Edged board 150 * 30 mm.
  • Thin slats for fixing the film to the bar.
  • Film for greenhouses reinforced or cellular polycarbonate.
  • Beam 50 * 50 mm.
  • Nails and screws.

Also it will be necessary to buy a couple of pipes larger than the diameter of pipes prepared for the frame. They will be needed to make plastic film latches and door hinges.

A greenhouse of polypropylene pipes is assembled using the following tools:

  • Hammer and drills.
  • Sadovoy borer or sledgehammer.
  • An acute painting knife.

Choice of plot under the greenhouse

Of course, to mount this structure should be in a sunny place, sufficiently well ventilated. Do not put a greenhouse where there is too much snow in the winter. If the load is too high, the film may fail and tear. It is not necessary to comply with this condition only when it is planned to disassemble the construction for the winter. The plot under the greenhouse should be as flat as possible. The earth on it should be slightly tampered with.

Assembling the base

So, let's start to understand how the greenhouse of polypropylene pipes is assembled by our own hands. Before beginning the installation of its frame, careful marking of the selected area should be made. The corners of the wooden frame from the board must be absolutely straight. You can mark out the ground, for example, using the Egyptian triangle or "two curves" method.

The lower wooden frame-strapping is assembled using self-tapping screws or nails. After installation in each of its corners from the inside, you should stick on the reinforcement bar. This will avoid skewing in the process of assembling the frame.

After the strapping is ready, you can proceed to install the most important element of the base - reinforcing bars. Pits under them are easiest to make a garden drill, since they must be deep enough (minimum half a meter). You can also try to score the rods with a conventional sledge hammer or hammer. However, in this case it is more difficult to achieve absolute verticality.

Above the surface of the soil, the rods should protrude about 25 cm. They should be positioned on both long sides of the future greenhouse in 50 cm steps.

Assembling the frame

After the base is ready, proceed to install the "edges" of the greenhouse. For this, pipes are simply put on rods on both sides. The result is quite strong arches. In the next step, the polypropylene pipes should be reinforced with transverse stiffeners. They are also made of PVC pipe. The cross-members can be fixed both to the wire and to the plastic tees. In the latter case, the fittings are worn on arched ribs in advance. They can be soldered to the pipes, but it is better to use them for attaching the self-tapping screw. In this case, the greenhouse will be dismountable.

The number of transverse stiffeners depends on the size of the structure. However, even for a bulky greenhouse, more than two or three on each side are rarely used. The only mandatory element of this PVC construction is the upper central transverse plastic "horse". Without this element, the film will sag after the first rain.

What does a greenhouse of polypropylene pipes look like? Drawings and photos of such designs can be seen in the article.

The ends

These elements are assembled from a bar, carefully carefully treated with antiseptic antipathic compositions. The film is attached to the beam by means of screws through the slats. If desired, the tree can be replaced by the same PVC pipes. In this case, segments of the required length are simply placed on the ends vertically along the edges of the future door. To the first arch they can also be attached to tees. At the bottom fixation is made on the reinforcing bars.

To the resulting plastic "jambs" it will be necessary to attach the door from the pieces. For this, short sections of PVC pipes of larger diameter are soldered to one of the vertical risers from above and below. On them, and the door is pushed.

Tightening with a film

The self-made greenhouse made of polypropylene pipes is usually sewn with reinforced polyethylene. Do not use a conventional film for this purpose. Especially for a long time this skin will not last. It costs a little more expensive, and will last much longer.

Cutting the skin is best done directly on the greenhouse. Thus, it is possible to avoid inaccuracies. The length of the bands should be slightly more than the length of the edges of the "arches". The fact is that the film at the final stage is usually tucked under the harness. You can also fasten it to the tree through the slats. To the arched "ribs" it is fixed to special plastic clips. The latter are made of short sections of a larger diameter pipe. These tubes are simply cut, breaking lengthwise on one side with a narrow strip. The result is a comfortable resilient clamp.

After the film is securely fastened, the assembly of the PVC hothouse can be considered complete.

Other constructions

Of course, greenhouses made of polypropylene pipes can not only have a classical arch shape. It is very simple to build a house-building, for example, from this material. The procedure for assembling it consists of the following steps:

  • Strapping from the board and fixing rods are mounted exactly as in the first case.
  • Further on the reinforcement are installed vertical racks of pipes.
  • Then plastic "rafters" from identical segments are mounted.
  • Connect them to the ridge element by means of tees of the corresponding shape. With racks "rafters" connect fittings. At the top, each form should be strengthened by a horizontal crossbeam from the length of the turbine.
  • In the next stage, install the transverse stiffeners (also on the tees pre-mounted on the vertical posts).

Use of polycarbonate

Greenhouses made of polypropylene pipes are not only covered with foil. It is perfectly permissible to replace it with a sufficiently flexible and light material. It will last longer than film, but it will cost more. It must be attached to the pipes on roofing screws with thermal washers. Unlike reinforced film, polycarbonate can expand and contract with changing air temperature. Therefore, when using rigid fasteners, this sheath will quickly become unusable. The diameter of the holes for ordinary screws in the sheets should be slightly larger than their rods. In this case, a gap of approximately 1 mm should be left between the fastener cap and the skin sheet.

Polycarbonate - a material, of course, very reliable and durable. However, they are often lined with greenhouses on a frame of a profile or a corner. For plastic, they usually use a budget film.

How to care for a greenhouse PVC

As already mentioned, it is better to make a plastic structure folding - on self-tapping screws. In this case, in the fall, after harvesting, it can simply be taken away to a garage or a hozblok. If the greenhouse remains wintering in the garden, it will have to periodically sweep away the snow. Otherwise, the film can not stand and tear. Polycarbonate carries much higher loads. But even with it to remove the layer of snow still have to. Otherwise, the skin during the thaw will be covered with a thin crust of ice. To scratches, polycarbonate is absolutely unstable.

In spring, the walls of the greenhouse with any kind of skin should be thoroughly rinsed with a soap solution using a soft cloth.

As you can see, the creation of a greenhouse made of pipes by oneself - the procedure is very simple. Time to build a similar design takes a bit. And this light construction costs a penny. So to erect a neat PVC hothouse in the garden is entirely within everyone's power.

Today the market offers a huge number of greenhouse complexes: gable and arched, capital and lighter, mobile, with a skin made of film and glazed, expensive and not very. Among all this variety, of course, you can choose a suitable model, or you can build it yourself. Today we will tell you how to make a greenhouse made of polypropylene pipes by yourself.

Greenhouse with own hands. Choose the material for the frame

Modern dacha is difficult to imagine without a reliable and strong greenhouse, because we love early radish so much, and how children are happy with the first tomatoes, and in autumn we want to get a rich harvest of heat-loving crops. All this is possible if on your site there is an indoor greenhouse complex with solid construction and a solid canopy.

Frame from plastic pipes  very light and at the same time quite strong

There are a lot of different greenhouses and a lot of materials for their erection, which means that there are a lot of opinions about what should be the best greenhouse. One of the most important criteria for choosing a particular greenhouse is the durability of the structure, and it is from it that one should proceed when building a greenhouse complex. The most durable and, importantly, inexpensive is a greenhouse with a frame made of profile pipe.

But if your budget is limited or you just do not want to overpay for installing a greenhouse on the site, then you are sure to be interested in the construction of PVC pipes. The greenhouse made of polypropylene pipes with its own hands, in comparison with more expensive analogues, has a number of advantages. One of the brightest advantages is the ability to quickly assemble / disassemble the structure, which allows not only to pick up the dimensions of the greenhouse complex, but also to fold it for the winter for storage in the garage.

Greenhouse made of plastic pipes, covered with foil

Another advantage of the PVC hothouse is its lightness. However, this quality is often accepted by experts and for the main drawback of such designs.

To other advantages of greenhouses from polypropylene and PVC pipes it is possible to carry:

Types of greenhouse complexes of plastic pipes

There are many modifications of greenhouses, we give only a few, the most common of them:

Easy greenhouse made of film and plastic pipes

  1. Greenhouses of arched type with a strong film coating (can be equipped with a box of wood and arcs on steel rods, as well as arcs and a frame made of plastic on tees).
  2. Models with a gable roof  with film coating.
  3. Design arched type  with polycarbonate cover.
  4. Products equipped with gable roof and coating from polycarbonate.

Materials for self-construction

In order to construct a greenhouse by yourself, you will need to arm yourself with a profile made of aluminum, polypropylene or metal-plastic pipes, as well as PVC pipes. The status of truly strong and highly reliable complexes deservedly won products on the basis of profile pipes. Traditionally, pipes with rectangular or square cross-sections (40 x 20, 20 x 20, 40 x 40) are used for the construction.

Frame for an arched type greenhouse

The frame of the structure based on profile pipes is the best suited for the subsequent sheathing with glass. A lot of truck farmers prefer greenhouse complexes of galvanized pipes. Of course, such products have a number of advantages: the frame does not rust and deteriorates from corrosion, successfully withstands any vagaries of the weather, and the service life of such a design goes back decades.

To accurately calculate the number of required materials, you must first design the structure. This is done either independently, with appropriate knowledge and training, or simply downloaded from the Internet.

Attention! A greenhouse based on plastic pipes can be designed by anyone who wants: from a professional builder, to a beginner, who never had a tool in his life. The main thing is desire, patience and utmost accuracy!

Frame construction

For the work we need the fixtures, PVC pipes, 4 x 10 x 10 beams, 10 x 10 x 50 x 50 pieces, plastic clips, nails, screws, a few polycarbonate sheets, accessories for the ventilators and doors of the future design, as well as some free time and desire.

Mounting of the frame of the greenhouse

Construction work, as usual, is preceded by an important stage preparatory activities: the site for the construction is chosen and carefully leveled. The bar must be treated with a special antiseptic, which will preserve the original quality for a long time and protect it from moisture and ground effects. Using the beams, the frame of the base is carefully made.

Mounting to the base of the greenhouse

To give the construction maximum stability, reinforcing bars are used. Of these, special blanks with a length of no more than 80 cm are cut. They are hammered along the entire perimeter of the future greenhouse at a distance of 50 cm from each other and to a depth of 40 cm. On the left side, a PVC pipe is put on the reinforcement rod, gently bent. The second end is put on the reinforcing bar, located on the right. As a result, arcs are obtained at an equidistant distance from each other (50 cm). Pipes are fixed very simply: they are screwed to the frame of the base on the clamps. Bruski 50 x 50 we need to build apertures for future doors from the end of the greenhouse.

Mounting of the frame of the greenhouse

To ensure that the finished structure was really strong and as long as possible, it is recommended to install stiffeners. For this purpose, a pipe is fixed in the central part of the end brusochki and is fastened by means of clamps to all arcs.

In the prepared doorways, doors are installed. The simplest design of the greenhouse is considered ready.

We select the skin

Film

It is impossible not to agree with the fact that the film is the most common coating. Yes, at first glance it may seem that the cost of film coating will be minimal. However, looking into the near future, we note that the new film will have to be bought every season, which means that costs will only grow every year. If you are not scared, then safely buy this inexpensive cover and carefully attach it to the bottom edge of the structure. Then the film rises, carefully stretches, with the help of the rafts it is nailed in the middle, re-tensioned and fixed in the lower plane already on the other side of the greenhouse. The whole procedure will take 1-2 hours. The main thing is to do everything slowly and very carefully. For installation of a film choose as much as possible windless weather.

Greenhouse covered with foil

Attention! To prevent the occurrence of drafts and cracks, slightly weight the edges of the film coating. Use stones or fragments of bricks, which you can almost always find on any private plot.

Glass

Despite a lot of advantages, a greenhouse complex with a glass coating is somewhat expensive. To erect a solid and durable greenhouse, it is necessary to prepare a foundation, weld the base of profile pipes, carefully work the irrigation and ventilation of the air, glaze. The last stage - glazing - requires special skills and skills from the performer, because the material is fragile enough and unsafe. And the hooligans have divorced a lot: inadvertently they can damage not only the construction itself, but also ruin the entire greenhouse crop.

Polycarbonate

If you are interested in really practical, reliable and durable plating, then use polycarbonate. This universal material perfectly winters, does not need to be dismantled at low temperatures, and in spring in such a greenhouse it almost instantly thaws the soil. The coating retains heat, it never sees condensate, and polycarbonate lifetime reaches 10 years. Knowingly experts consider it better coverage  for modern greenhouse complexes.

Greenhouse made of polycarbonate with a frame made of plastic pipes

Mounting polycarbonate to the frame is a simple procedure that does not take much time.
  To cover the structure with polycarbonate, it must first be deployed (the material is sold in rolls), remove the protective film from the bottom surface and fix the cloth down on the screws. Then the sheet rises neatly and incidentally is bolted to the frame every 70 cm. Having reached the opposite side of the greenhouse, the sheet is again fixed below. If the greenhouse is installed perfectly smoothly, then the coating will be smooth and uniform throughout the surface.

In addition to the above materials for plating, you can use non-woven materials (spunbond, agrospan, agrotex). Very common are bubble film coatings and reinforced, capable of withstanding any bad weather, including large hail and storm wind.

As you have noticed, to build a greenhouse of PVC pipes, plastic or polyethylene pipes  not only simple, but also affordable, even within a limited budget. Inexpensive and properly constructed greenhouse of PVC will last a long time and will be an excellent alternative for expensive greenhouse complexes manufactured in the factory.

Greenhouse from plastic pipes with own hands: photo

Russian craftsmen have found a very successful application to conventional PVC water pipes. Since they are strong enough and easily bend, they make frames for stationary or portable greenhouses. The frame can be covered with an ordinary greenhouse film (in which case it will have to be removed for the winter) or attach sheets of cellular polycarbonate (previously we described the creation process), thus obtaining a stationary structure.

Source materials and tools

To create a greenhouse made of PVC pipes, you will need:
  The boards or bricks for the foundation device;
  pipes made of polyvinylchloride with a diameter of 25 mm;
Hacksaw for metal for cutting pipes;
  roulette;
  building level;
  tees, 25 mm crossbars and other pipe fittings;
  PVC glue;
  metal rods of 10 mm in length of 700-800 mm;
  self-tapping screws 20 mm;
  thin metal plates of metal for fastening pipes to the base;
  screwdriver;
  Clamps for the film (if it is planned to tighten the structure with a film) or thermowells for fixing the polycarbonate.

Tee, oblique tee and cross from PVC

Assemblage of a skeleton from polypropylene pipes

1. If the structure is subsequently covered with polyethylene, the dimensions of the frame can be any. When using polycarbonate as a coating, it is more logical to choose a size that is a multiple of the length of the sheet. Its standard sheet has a size of 2100 × 6000 mm. That is, from 3 sheets it is possible to obtain a frame of a greenhouse with a length of 2100 × 3 = 6300 mm (ie 6.3 m). The sheet of length 6000 mm (6 m) is bent into an arch with a height of 1.9 m, while the width of the greenhouse will be 3.8 m.

2. After selecting a suitable plot, the ground on it is leveled. The basis for a greenhouse  is assembled from a brick or planks of a suitable size, treated with an antiseptic, and checked using a building level. The voids beneath them are further buried and carefully packed.

The basis for a greenhouse

3. To strengthen the corners of the wooden base, 4 peg from the fittings. The same stakes, on which the pipes will be inserted, are driven along the base to a depth of 25-30 cm with a step width of 50 cm.

At the corners of the base metal stakes are hammered. On the same stakes will be fixed and arcs.

4. To bend the arc from the PVC pipe it is possible and without the piping: it is enough to heat the bending point building hair dryer. To ensure that the pipe does not lose shape when heated, the inside of it is filled with sand or ordinary table salt, and then wooden plugs are inserted from both sides of the pipe. If you do not have a hair dryer at hand, you can heat sand or salt.

5. If you want to get an arch with a large bending angle, in order to avoid breaks, it is better to assemble the frame of the greenhouse from small bent pipe segments using connecting fittings.

Bending of PVC pipe

Council.  To obtain a perfectly smooth symmetrical arc, you can map out its contour on any flat surface, and then align the pipe along it.

6. That in the course of time the pipes do not crack in the sun, before mounting them it is desirable to glue with a sticky tape or cloth.

7. Each of the arcs is mounted on a metal rod driven into the ground and additionally attached to a wooden base using a thin metal plate and screws.

Fastening of pipes to the base

8. A PVC pipe is laid along the lower edge of the greenhouse as an additional stiffening rib. Connect the arc and the stiffener with each other using plastic cable bundles (clamps). Wire use is undesirable: it will cling to clothes, and a thin plastic film will burst very quickly.

Connection of crosshairs with plastic clips

9. Secure the arcs not only with metal stakes, driven into the ground. It is enough to first gather around the perimeter of the greenhouse lower stiffeners, and then to them with the help of connecting fittings to attach the arc.

Assembling the lower stiffener

Arcs are attached directly to the lower stiffeners

Important!  All tees should be finalized: punch them so that the pipes pass through them through and through.

10. To strengthen the construction of tees additional fixed with PVC glue. To get a collapsible greenhouse, you can use self-tapping screws instead of glue.

Fittings for pipes

Council.Perhaps the only drawback of PVC pipes: excessive flexibility, so under the weight of a too large layer of snow, they can bend. For an arched device this is not critical, since the snow will not linger on its roof. In the case of a greenhouse with straight walls, additional reinforcing ribs should be provided on the crest of the greenhouse or collected from a PVC profile instead of pipes.

Mounting of greenhouse tubes with straight walls and an inclined roof

11. For the fastening of the door and the vent, instead of the hinges, you can use a tape with Velcro. To do this, it should be wrapped around the bearing support and the door.

Door fastening with Velcro tape

12. With the help of PVC pipes it is possible to create not only the frame of a greenhouse, but also to equip it with it racks.

Shelvings in a greenhouse made of PVC pipes

Greenhouse coating

As a covering of the greenhouse frame can be used:
  conventional polyethylene film;
  air bubble film for greenhouses;
  non-woven materials;
  reinforced polyethylene film;
  polycarbonate.

Council.  It is very convenient to fasten the polyethylene film with the help of "latches" made of a length of PVC pipe cut in length and slightly unbent. The diameter of such a pipe should be slightly larger than the pipes of the frame itself.

Fixing the film with the help of "latches" made of pipes

Sheets cellular polycarbonate  They are attached to the frame by means of screws and thermowells. Their fixing begins from the edges of the frame, and then moves to its center. The side of the center sheet, if necessary, is cut with a construction knife to the desired size.

Mounting with thermowells

Council.  Polycarbonate sheets should be placed so that the honeycomb goes perpendicular to the ground. Otherwise, the condensate formed can not flow down, and the moisture accumulated in its cells during the freezing will destroy the honeycomb.

Greenhouse coating, made of reinforced polyethylene film

Spunbond (non-woven thermally bonded material) and air-bubble film for greenhouses

Cultivation of cucumbers, tomatoes, flowers and other things is a favorite activity for all summer residents and truck farmers. But the construction of a greenhouse, as a rule, is quite expensive, time-consuming and time-consuming. And I want always faster, and cheaper.

And there is such a solution. Everyone, not even a qualified builder, can build a greenhouse of plastic pipes on his own site with his own hands.

Features of the frame made of polypropylene pipes

The frame for the greenhouse is the basis of the entire structure. It will depend on him how long the greenhouse will last. If the frame of the greenhouse is unstable, then the coating will be deformed, torn, and, therefore, will not be able to perform its functions for a long time.

The frame for a greenhouse, in general, can be made of any material: a wooden beam, metal pipe  or profile fittings. However, all these materials have one serious drawback: in a damp greenhouse environment, they quickly become unusable due to their susceptibility to corrosion.

Unlike the materials listed above, the frame of a greenhouse made of polypropylene pipes, metal-plastic, HDPE or PVC pipes perfectly tolerates a moist environment  and temperature changes. Consider all the advantages and disadvantages of the greenhouse made of PVC pipe.

Advantages and disadvantages

  • resistance to external factors - a hothouse made of plastic pipes does not react to climatic and weather conditions, as well as the microclimate peculiarities that provide for the greenhouse;
  • lightness - this design is easy to install and dismantle with your own hands. It will not cause problems if you need to move around the site;
  • strength is one of the main requirements to the frame. A hothouse made of PVC pipes easily withstands the load of winds and precipitation;
  • durability - PVC pipes even in extreme conditions do not change their structure. And in the future, if any element is deformed, it will not be replaced by labor;
  • refractoriness - a hothouse made of plastic pipes is not subject to fire, as the PVC material itself does not burn;
  • moisture resistance - plastic is not deformed and does not collapse from the wet environment, which must necessarily keep the greenhouse;
  • ecological compatibility, PVC - a material environmentally friendly. It does not emit fumes harmful to plants and humans;
  • affordable price - this factor is important, since anyone who undertakes construction with their own hands wants to finish it with the least financial losses. Hothouses from the pipe go much cheaper than similar structures made of wood or profile fittings.

The only drawback of this design is the small weight of the frame. The greenhouse, in contrast to a similar construction of profile fittings, is mandatory needs foundation laying  and reliable attachment to it. Otherwise, with gusts of wind, you may have to catch up with your hotbed in neighboring areas.

Preparation for work

Before you start laying the foundation and installing the frame yourself, you need to make detailed calculations, purchase necessary material  and prepare tools.

We make the calculations:

  1. First of all, you need to determine the place where the greenhouse will be installed. The place should be even and cleaned from weeds.
  2. Proceeding from the chosen place, we choose the shape of the greenhouse (we will talk about possible forms later), make perimeter calculations, draw a plan.
  3. We calculate the required amount of material, proceeding from the fact that the distance between the pipes should not exceed 90 cm.
  4. We purchase material.
  5. Preparing the tools.

Material and tools

Note immediately that you should not try to save on connective materials. Exactly of their quality will depend on sustainability  and the strength of the carcass. And it, in turn, directly affects the durability of the hothouse itself from the pipe.

To build a greenhouse with our own hands, we will need the following materials:

  • pVC pipes. Ideally, pipes with an outside diameter of 25 mm, an internal diameter of 16.6 mm and a wall thickness of 4.2 mm should be used;
  • strapping wire or plastic tees for connecting the frame;
  • bars of profile fittings with a diameter of 10-12 mm and a length of 600 to 1000 mm for fixing the frame to the foundation;
  • materials for the foundation. The set of materials depends on the foundation to be laid. We can use either wooden beams with a diameter of 50x50 mm, or cement mortar with profile fittings;
  • fasteners for fixing the skin;
  • film or polycarbonate for covering.

Set of tools:

  • garden drill;
  • sledgehammer;
  • drill;
  • a hammer;
  • pliers.

This is only an indicative list necessary tools. In the process of work, there may be a need for a hacksaw, scissors, ax, or something else.

A foundation or frame?

Due to the lightness of the construction, the hothouses from the pipes do not need an obligatory solid foundation. But still it is worth remembering that the pipes must be securely fixed  to a base not strong enough for the wind. What is better to strengthen the greenhouse?

It goes without saying that it is much easier to make a wooden frame than to fill a full foundation. However, it is worth remembering that the frame under the greenhouse is made of wooden beams with a diameter of 50x50 mm, to which, with the help of profile fittings, PVC pipes are fixed.

Wood is a material susceptible to corrosion, fungi and putrefaction. Therefore, after a short period of time, you will have to change the frame, and, in the worst case, also get rid of mold and fungal infections of the soil.

This option of fixing the greenhouse is convenient in case it is planned to move it around the site every couple of years.

The foundation is a solid structure capable of serving more than a dozen years. Therefore, it should be erected in the event that you decided to do greenhouses thoroughly and their position will not change for years.

To fix the greenhouse to the foundation is very easy. In the process of laying the foundation, the rods from the profile fittings are installed on the distance of the hood frame pipes (not more than 90 cm), on which the greenhouse is subsequently put on and fixed.

Arched Greenhouse

From PVC pipes it is possible to build a greenhouse of any configuration. The most common - arched greenhouse  and a two-stage greenhouse. Arched form is much easier to install  with their own hands, so it is recommended that beginners start with it.

Consider the technology of mounting an arch framework for a greenhouse made of polypropylene pipes using the example of a greenhouse measuring 10x4 meters.

When building a greenhouse of a larger or smaller size, it will be necessary to recalculate the amount of material, respectively, to a greater or lesser extent.

  1. We make the foundation. The width and length of the basement or frame (whichever you decide to build) corresponds to the size of the greenhouse itself.
  2. Further we will need reinforcing bars. We cut them into lengths of 70 cm and set strictly opposite each other at a distance of not more than 90 cm. If the greenhouse will be fixed to the frame - the bars should be installed on the outside of the wooden base. If a variant of the foundation is chosen, the bars are cemented into the foundation itself.
  3. We set the arcs. We take PVC pipes of the same length (in our case, the length of the pipes is 6 meters.) The number of arches corresponds to the number of fasteners. Pipes are put on the armature on one side, and then, gently bend with an arc and put on pins on the other side of the greenhouse.
  4. We make a wooden or plastic frame for fixing the doors and the window pane of the greenhouse from opposite sides of the building.
  5. We install the central bearing longitudinal beam. Since PVC pipes are not ten meters long, we take two five-meter pipes and connect them with a clamp. We fix the edge of rigidity in the very center arched construction  along the greenhouse. For clamping, clamps or strapping wires can be used.
  6. We fix the longitudinal stiffeners in the same way along the slope. Two or three pipes on each side.
  7. We install a pair of racks under the central stiffener. It is not necessary, because the design is quite stable, but it will not be superfluous.
  8. We fix the cover.

In the case of fastening to a wooden frame, the frame is tightly fixed, with the help of metal plates and screws, to the outside of the wooden beams.

If the greenhouse is installed on the foundation, additional fastening of pipes to the fitting is carried out with the help of bolts and nuts. To do this, a through hole is drilled through the pipe and rod, then the bolt is threaded and tightened with a nut.

Gable greenhouse

The difference in the process of erection, in general, is not great. The only problem is that the double-deck design provides angles that are connected by soldering plastic elements. For this a special soldering iron for PVC pipes is required.

The whole algorithm installation works  almost identical to the previous one. Therefore, we consider briefly the algorithm, with a stop on features.

  1. Building the foundation.
  2. We fix the reinforcing bars.
  3. We install on the reinforcing bars the pieces of plastic pipe of the same length. This will be the height of our greenhouse along the lower edge of the ramp.
  4. To the upper edges of the pipes we fix tees. To the angular crossings.
  5. Then we begin to show our imagination and recall the children's skills of collecting designers. Our task is to assemble gable roof. The only condition is that all roof elements must be the same length.
  6. We tighten the frame with awning.

Greenhouse dressing

There are two main materials that can be used for the hull covering: polyethylene film and polycarbonate. Both these materials meet the main requirements of the coating for the greenhouse:

  • resistance to climatic and weather conditions;
  • passage of light and ultraviolet;
  • the ability to maintain the microclimate within the greenhouse.

Shelter with polyethylene film

For the hanging of the greenhouse it is better to use reinforced film, since the usual polyethylene quickly deteriorates  under the influence of sunlight.

To trim the greenhouse, you need:

  1. Uncover polyethylene. This process is best performed directly near the frame to accurately calculate the material. The lengths of the film should be slightly larger than the walls of the greenhouse, since it will be fixed using turns and bends under the construction.
  2. For the fixing of the film, you can use any clamping devices, including clamps or clips for money.
  3. You can make fastenings with your own hands. To do this, pieces of a larger diameter pipe are cut along, and then worn on the frame, thereby pressing the skin to the frame.
  4. At the end of the work, the bottom of the skin is refueled under a wooden base or firmly pressed against the foundation.

Polycarbonate sheathing

Polycarbonate polishing will cost a little more, but it will last incomparably longer. In addition, such a material is a means of thermal insulation, so it will help to keep the greenhouse in winter and warm up the earth faster and create a microclimate during the sowing season.

Polycarbonate has a special property of expanding and narrowing with temperature changes.

Therefore, rigid fastening of the skin to the supporting structure is not allowed. This action can lead to deformation and cracks  covering material.

Fastening of polycarbonate sheets is done with the help of self-tapping screws and thermowells. Holes for fastening are drilled a bit larger diameter than the body of the self-tapping screw. Under the hat is laid rubber washer. This makes it possible for the skin to play and not to deform under temperature changes.
