Construction and repair by own hands

How to properly process the tree indoors. Than to cover the lining in the house - a complete guide from a specialist.

Modern lining (lining included here) refers to affordable and simple materials, which, among other things, trim the walls on the balcony. To natural lining  has not lost its naturalness and lasted longer, it needs some kind of impregnation, and better - a high-quality decorative coating. It can be painted, varnished, etc.

Do I need a coating for the lining

Work is worth it, it's indisputable. And not only for decorative purposes. If you correctly craft the lining, the service life of the material will significantly increase, the finishing coat will be resistant, give the lining the desired color or shade. This procedure is not so simple, because the applied coating consists of several layers.

And even the reverse side of the wood sheath needs to be treated with an antiseptic. Most often used Visasol and its analogs. It is a transparent primer that needs to be impregnated on the skin so that mold does not appear on it, and it does not darken. And it is better, of course, to apply this primer in the pre-installation period. Then the board is processed fully.

Preparation: how to cover the lining on the balcony

The preparatory stage consists of cleaning procedures. It is necessary to remove all the dirt, remove the outdated coating, if any. Do not apply lacquer or paint on the unpurified surface.

Stages of preparation:

  • Wait until the board has dried out to apply a protective agent, you need an ideally dry surface of the skin;
  • Fix all the gaps that may theoretically arise during the drying process of the primer;
  • It is necessary to thoroughly clean all chips and those splinters that obviously stick out;
  • It is necessary to de-dust the lining.

If the lining is old, it is difficult to clean, the special composition will help. Make a soda solution, 0.3 kg of soda / 10 liters of water, hot. If you see a fungus on the tree or a darkening, you will have to resort to the bleaching procedure. But this process is more complicated, requires a separate description.

Painting the balcony inside: paint for the balcony

All the means by which the lining can be processed are divided into three groups - paints, varnishes and special impregnations. Each remedy is worthy of considering it separately. Many people prefer the next action - varnishing. But painting of the vagonki is also possible, and in many cases this is even more interesting.

Painting for lining:

  • Oil-based paint. It dries long, but it is perfectly absorbed and strongly protects the material. And, most importantly, it allows the tree to breathe. The board becomes moisture resistant, the surface ages much more slowly. The board will not fade and will not crack.
  • Tightened paint on oil or alkyd resins. They make these paints from high-quality varnish. And the solution must be diluted to the required consistency with the same substance. If you choose such a composition, then the lining must be painted in two layers. The substance forms a moisture resistant film with good frost resistance. Can be used for facade decoration, and on the balcony, and on the loggia.
  • Facade paints. The name speaks for itself. These are nitrokraski, alkyd resins, as well as agents with polymer additives. This type of paints has a good level of moisture resistance, they are well applied and durable.

If you apply a thick layer of paint, it can hide the small flaws of the lining. As for color, most often it's white. But if you need to convey on the balcony the whole charm of the wood structure of the lining, you need to choose lacquer.

The choice of varnish: which varnish to cover the lining on the balcony

Inside the balcony, a water-based lacquer can be used. This is a safe product made from pure materials and various components. The varnish dries so quickly, has no characteristic smell. True, the protective properties of such varnish are not high. But if the lining is protected by the glazing of the balcony from aggressive weather conditions, the lacquer can be used.

The following types of varnish can also be used:

  • Acrylic lacquer - well protects wood from abundant moisture and ultraviolet rays, the substance is harmless, no volatile chemical elements. First you need to dilute the lacquer with alcohol to the desired consistency. This is perhaps the most popular tool for processing lining.
  • Alkyd varnish - but it is good to use in regions with high humidity. This waterproof coating. True, this varnish is distinguished by a sharp odor, and it dries up a long time. But it has an excellent impact resistance.
  • Polyurethane varnish. Suitable only for external processing of lining. Varnish and moisture resistant, and frost-resistant, and durable, and dries quickly. But the smell is specific, and it releases harmful chemicals. So, for not suitable, only for outdoor.

In addition to varnish and paint, impregnation can be used. If the sunny side of the balcony, you need impregnations, the maximum protect from exposure to sunlight. And impregnations, too, are different.

Impregnation: how to coat / paint the lining on the balcony

The simplest method of protecting the lining is a stain. True, the color scheme of the stain does not assume a great variety, but, nevertheless, you can choose, for example, the tone of larch or the tone of mocha, ebony, lemon, etc. Impregnation is a quality, it protects the tree well from the process of rotting, mold and other fungi.

There are also wax impregnations. But they are used usually in the area with increasing humidity. This impregnation creates a moisture-resistant film, and the surface of the lining becomes either gently-matte, or with a beautiful glossy luster. The coating has good resistance to heat and frost.

Algorithm for processing lining

After the lining has already been cleaned, the surface must be sanded with a construction sandpaper. Then apply antiseptic, the layer of the put antiseptic will dry day. The lining is then covered with a special varnish or paint. You can do this with a brush, roller or spray gun.

If there are noticeable rough areas, then after drying on them you need to walk through the skin. The surface is then treated with a second coating layer. Wait for the drying of the lining. Well, you can admire your work.

Lining is a naturally beautiful material, its specific material for processing can gracefully emphasize. Do not forget about the use of antiseptic and high-quality cleaning if the lining is already old. Successful repair!

Attention, only TODAY!

When constructing or repairing living quarters, the question often arises, what is to cover the lining in the house? Here you can find the most complete information about the processing of the protective coating of the skin, their properties, brands and technology. And also we tell about preparation and processing based on our experience.

Principles of the choice of mixture

How to cover the lining inside the house? A similar problem often arises before attentive owners of their home. To solve this problem, you need to answer the following questions:

  • Do I have to cover something?
  • Will it be processed in a damp or dry place?
  • Do you need to tint the material? Or on the contrary need to preserve the natural color of wood?

Having answered these questions, it is already possible to understand what special mixture to take for internal work in the impregnation room.

What properties should the mixture have?

  • Protection against moisture
  • Protection against temperature drop
  • Protection against pollution
  • Protection against mold fungus formation
  • Increasing the level of fire resistance of wood
  • Prevention of mechanical damage
  • Protection from burn-up due to sunlight
  • Required visual characteristics

Now it is worthwhile to dwell on the individual types of lining from the lining. This can be impregnations, stains, as well as varnish mixtures or paints. The choice of what to paint wood, remains for the buyer.

Impregnation with stains  differ in that they penetrate into the structure of the tree. These can be referred to drying oil, which is currently used only in utility rooms.

Not bad copes with its task, but after a while the skin under its influence darkens and gets an unpleasant film on the surface.

Protective impregnation  often used in antiseptic and fire prevention purposes, so the wood is covered with a composition from two sides to a direct installation. But after using such impregnation, you should pay attention to it's compatibility with any finish coatings, for example, paints.

Close to the protective impregnation in its functions antiseptic film formulations. They are especially suitable for lining outside the building.

Stain is mostly used to give the material a certain tony and decontaminate the surface of the lining.

The most common brands of impregnations and stains:

  • «Tikkurila»
  • Senezh
  • Pinotex

Now we should pay attention to such protective mixtures as   lacquer coatings  and paints. Their use is absolutely not necessary, since a good stain or impregnation will provide reliable protection of the wood.

Paints are often used for decorative purposes, as they are able to hide distortions, sometimes unpleasant to the eye color of the lining after it is finished with stain or impregnation.

But still you can not discount the protective properties of paints.

Starting a conversation about varnishes, it should be said that they are used to preserve the natural color and structure of the tree.

Color palette

Types of varnish coatings:

  • Water based
  • Acrylic
  • Alkyd
  • Polyurethane

If the covering of the skin is required to be carried out indoors, it is recommended to use lacquer on a water basis, since in themselves they do not contain toxins, moreover, they are fireproof and easy to use. In addition, the owner can choose two types of textures: matte or glossy.

If it is necessary to cover the outer skin, then a transparent coating, which has a high degree of resistance to ultraviolet rays, will work well.

In order to "age" the wood for decorative purposes, advise it to cover with varnish with the addition of color.

On the flooring and the floorboards, it is possible to apply an alkyd composition for the reason that it has a high level of strength, and is also capable of withstanding strong mechanical damages.

If in some places the skin can also be subjected to mechanical stress, it is best to apply a "spot" alkyd varnish on it.

Continuing the conversation you can not fail to pay attention to different colors, although they are used on the order of less varnish. An excellent option is a translucent paint that partially preserves the natural structure of the tree.

Popular brands of paints:

  • Belinka
  • Senezh
  • Texturol

Professionals are also advised to consider painting the wagon with paint based on wax. It is made on the basis of natural oil from flax, so it is less toxic. But the drawback of such a paint is the difficulty in applying and the high cost.

Technology

You need to cover 2 times.

It is very important to know the sequence of the coating, since the quality treatment is the guarantee that the lining material will be in excellent condition for a long time.

The necessary tools for painting the lining are the protective composition itself, a tray for it, a brush, a roller or a sprayer, a primer, goggles, as necessary, a ladder, pumice for sanding.

Preparation

Boards after drying

  1. Before covering the board in the house, its initial drying, cleaning, sanding, grinding of small flaws and unevennesses is required.
  2. If there are small dark areas on the material, it is necessary to clean them with the help of special compositions for bleaching wood. It can be "Senezh Neo" or "Rime".
  3. After the bleaching procedure, the material should be washed again and dried.
  4. It is necessary to cover the boards with a primer that will fill its pores. Moreover, the primer reduces the consumption of the protective product. The right decision  will give the primer the same shade that has a varnish, using the same color.
  5. Next, treat the surface with antiseptics and flame retardants.

After waiting for the skin to dry, you can proceed to the second stage of the work.

Application of varnish on the skin

Can be covered with a sprayer if the area is large.

The tool that will be applied is selected by everyone, if this work is done by the owner with his own hands.

Everything depends on the material and the required surface area.

These can be brushes, rollers or sprayers. But many professionals believe that the most high-quality and beautiful coating is obtained when applied with a brush.

Video - how to cover wooden walls:

Sequence of application:

  • 1. The coating should be mixed so that the toning is uniform. Before you start painting, it is recommended to make a stroke on an unseen place to check the pigment saturation.
  • 2. Move the brush along the wood fibers, apply the first layer.
  • 3. Leave the first coat until completely dry. After that, sand it and apply a second coat.

It is worth paying attention to the fact that if the processing of a similar composition is subjected to a lining, then with each subsequent layer the amount of the dyeing color should decrease.

Applying varnish in this way, it will acquire a deeper and glossy color.

Plaster of lacquered surface. Then cover again.

By the way, the main differences between the usual and the lining are the fastening, since the latter has a more complex profile, the quality of the wood, the availability of channels for the ventilation of the wood, the depth of the pile-and-groove connection and, of course, the price.

4. The final layer should be transparent. Do not sand it.

When painting, much attention should be paid to the ends of the lining, as this is the most vulnerable part of this material.

Cost of work

A full range of works, including the coating of wood with a protective solution and an antiseptic with a layer-by-layer grinding will cost approximately 250-290 rubles per 1 square meter.

1 liter of varnish costs approximately 140-150 rubles depending on the brand.

Thus, k should be treated very responsibly, without regretting strength, time and money. Also, you should carefully read the information written on the bank of the protective device.

We hope that this information will help when covering the lining of the lining with your own hands.

Modern man has many opportunities to cover the lining, based on what the purpose pursues. Most often, the lining is covered with a protective layer inside the house to protect it from the influence of sunlight, changing the moisture regime, the action of fire, mold, insects and so on.

Impregnation by any means can produce by own strength, if you show a little zeal. You can see the video materials, which shows the process of impregnating the lining inside the house. Also there are photos on which each concrete action is gradually shown. Having a lot of information in this matter helps us avoid hiring outsiders to pay them money.

If you pay attention to impregnated finished material, you will see that it is covered with a transparent film. With its help, some craftsmen emphasize the structure. This is a kind of additional decor.

Two impregnation groups

Impregnation, if viewed from the point of view of protection, is conditionally divided into two groups:

  • impregnation, which not only protects the lining inside the house, but also makes it possible to decorate;
  • impregnation, which, when processed, gives exclusively protection to the material inside the house.

As for the coverage of the second type, it has greater transparency. Once the treatment is finished, and the impregnation itself has dried, it is almost imperceptible. Processing of the second type is able to strengthen the structure, to give an additional visual effect. Inside your house will be much more beautiful and cozy. In the photo, you can see how the external impression differs in a different kind of processing. Therefore, before impregnating, think about what you want to see in the final result.

Preliminary preparation

If you decide to impregnate the lining yourself, prepare it first. Before applying the impregnation, peel the surface. After that, apply a primer. The next step is applying an antiseptic. Here everything is not so difficult and there are no special instructions to give. The very last stage - applying either paint or varnish - all depends on your wishes. Here are the main steps that must follow one after another in strict sequence.

We draw your attention to the fact that during the processing of the lining, its impregnation, all the steps listed must necessarily be completed. It is in this case that we can confidently say that it will last long and qualitatively. Do not try to deceive yourself.

Attention! If you have already applied a protective agent, and want to paint the lining, in this case, pay attention to the antiseptic, which has a translucent effect. In this case, there will be no need to apply another layer to hide the natural color of the lining. If you have any questions, you can see the photos, which show different options for processing lining, its impregnation. Also there are training video films, allowing to go deeper into the process and solve the most difficult tasks.

Basic antiseptics

If you decide to keep the lining inside the house for a long time and for a long time, then you should take special care to choose an antiseptic. What can be attributed to this type of substances? These are water resistant products that can protect wood from the appearance of fungus and damage from the side of insects. This is especially true for country houses  and summer cottages. After properly impregnated, no insects and no fungus will be scary of the material.

Impregnation not only allows the destruction of foreign organisms, but also prevents their reproduction. The tree is embalmed beneath a layer of impregnation.

For convenience of work with the lining, at present the impregnation is divided into four classes:

  • From organic solvents. By the way, it works well not only inside the house, but also from the outside. Kind of, a universal class.

  • Oily. If you live in an area where the changing climate, the abundance of moisture, it is advisable to use just such impregnation.
  • Water-soluble. It protects a tree well, which has a constant contact with moisture and water.
  • Combined. Most often it is used to protect wooden buildings from the outside. Inside the house, it's best not to use it.

Whichever impregnation class you use, always after finishing the work on applying it to a tree, you get a film that has a high protection rating.

  Attention! When you choose an antiseptic, scrupulously study the attached characteristics. If in doubt, ask for advice from the seller. The cost in this case acts as a co-factor. It is more important to pay attention to how it can protect the lining and from what external conditions.

Finishing clapboard - one of the most convenient ways of interior design. This material looks great in the city apartment, and in a private house, suitable for almost any room. Since from time to time the wood darkens and noticeably loses its attractiveness, many masters are thinking about how to paint the lining inside the house in order to preserve the texture of the coating.

Tools for wood processing are divided into protective and decorative. The first help extend the service life, the latter are designed for interior decoration. Before the walls are lined, the lining passes the necessary treatment to protect it from mold, moisture, ultraviolet, but over time this coating is erased and needs to be renewed. That is why periodically the wood should be impregnated with flame retardants, bactericidal compositions and covered with various varnishes.

Compositions for coating liningDescription
Fire retardantsFire retardants reduce the level of flammability of wood, which is especially important in a residential building. In the event of a fire, this will slow the spread of the fire and help to extinguish it faster. Fire retardants do not emit harmful substances and practically do not affect the appearance of the finish.
Bactericidal formulationsThese funds will help to avoid infection with the fungus and stop the already developing mold. Even in a dry place, pairs can accumulate between the seams of panels, and in combination with dust - these are ideal conditions for the development of microorganisms. Over time, antiseptics are washed out or evaporated, so re-treatment is necessary. There are special bi-moisture protection compounds that simultaneously kill mold, repel pests, give the wood water repellent properties and decorativeness. The cost of such a composition is high enough, but it replaces the antiseptic, stain and lacquer.
StainImpregnations also perform antiseptic functions, but additionally change the shade of wood. One of the popular impregnations is a stain that stains the surface in a darker color. The stain does not create a film on the surface, but is absorbed into the pores of the material to a certain depth, so that the texture of the lining is clearly visible. Impregnated with stain, the surface must be varnished, otherwise the panels will appear dirty.
Linseed oilFlaxseed oil is also perfectly absorbed into the tree, hardening its surface several times. The board, impregnated with linseed oil, is not afraid of moisture, for a very long time it is not affected by the fungus, it has a beautiful matte shade and a pronounced texture.
OlifaBut the linseed oil, which used to be widely used for processing lining, is gradually losing ground. Impregnated with drying surface quickly darkens and after 2-3 years begins to stick.
Bleaching agentsIf dark spots, stripes, areas of bluish tinge appear on the paneling, bleach treatment for wood is carried out. There are several varieties of this remedy, which differ in their application and effectiveness. To remove wood stains bleaching compositions are applied to the surface for a certain time, after which it is washed off with water. In most cases, the darkened areas acquire the original color.
Varnishes for woodFor interior work, you need to use acrylic lacquers, which are the most harmless. These varnishes perform a dual function - they protect the surface and make it more decorative. The first layer of the coating is necessarily transparent, and in the second, coloring pigments are added. A good alternative to varnish are wax mixtures, which also effectively protect the wood and give the carpet a semi-glossy shine.
Oil paintOil paint is often used for decorative processing of wood, and lining is no exception. Such paint penetrates deep into the pores of the material, does not pass through moisture, is highly resistant to external influences. But while its vapor permeability is too low, it takes a long time to dry out, and the color quickly dims.
Acrylate paintAcrylate paint is superior to oil in all respects: it does not lose its luster and color saturation for a long time, it penetrates perfectly into the lining and dries faster. Its vapor barrier properties are very high, and the coating it creates does not crack with temperature deformations of the panels. The only drawback of acrylate paints is their high cost.
Acrylic AwningsAcrylic awners are the most the best option  for processing lining. They are harmless, create a durable decorative coating with high resistance to moisture and erasure, do not fade from time. Lining, treated with such a tool, looks very attractive and expensive.

Preparation of lining for painting

If the coloring agent is selected, the surface of the panels should be properly prepared. The quality of the preparation depends on the quality of the painting, so this stage is very important.

For work you will need:

  • pumice;
  • clean rag;
  • paint brush;
  • primer.

Step 1. Cleaning the panels

First, clean the lining from dirt. Take 5 liters of warm water, dilute in it 150 g of soda, and then the resulting solution washed the entire surface. For better adhesion of the paint to the wood, the previous coating layer is recommended to be completely removed, especially if there are delaminations and cracks. To facilitate this process, you can use a building hair dryer and a metal spatula: the coat is heated with a hairdryer, after which the paint layer is easily tapped with a spatula. There are also special liquids in the stores: a little money is applied to the surface, waiting for the time indicated on the packaging, and then rubbing the lining with a stiff brush and rinsing.

Old oil paint can be removed with a piece of foil and iron: the foil is applied to the surface, slowly ironed with iron and for 20 seconds, remove the layers of paint with a spatula. After cleaning, carefully inspect the entire lining: remove stains of mold, treat the darkened areas with special bleaches. Finally, wipe the boards with a clean rag to remove the smallest pieces of paint and dirt. If there are panels with damage, they should be replaced.

Step 2. Grinding

Clean the lining must be carefully sanded, and best suited for this is pumice or fine-grained sandpaper. In order not to miss any area when grinding, it is recommended to divide the skin into small squares and process them consistently. Do not strongly press on the surface of the panel or long rub one site, grind should be as uniform as possible.

Step 4. Painting the lining

Apply paint on a wooden lining with a brush or spray gun. Brushes need two - medium width and narrow, to stain hard-to-reach areas. To make the coating more durable and durable, the paint should be applied in 2-3 layers of minimum thickness.

You need to start from above, so that random stains do not spoil the painted surface. When this layer of paint completely dries, you can apply a second one. The finishing layer should be the thinnest; it is applied from top to bottom with light, even movements. The same technology is applied and akvalak, but it must be periodically stirred during operation.

Lining is the best option for balconies, as it has a number of operational advantages, as well as excellent decorative characteristics. But even this material needs protection from moisture, sun rays and other negative factors. Solve these problems, as well as improve the appearance of the finish, can different colors, varnishes and impregnations. So, what is the best way to cover the lining on the balcony?

There are several processing options interior decoration  The balcony, including varnishes, paints and protective compounds. Selecting a particular coating is necessary taking into account their characteristics, cost and own financial capabilities. In addition, each tool has its own shortcomings and advantages, which also need to know the consumer.

Protective impregnation for lining of different shades

Lucky

Lacquer coatings for lining are made on a different basis, which determines its chemical and physical properties.

If judged from the point of view of aesthetics, the lacquer for lining is mainly used in cases where it is necessary to preserve the picture and texture of a tree or improve the plating of cheap material.

Paints

Paints for vagonki are used less often than varnishes - this is usually done in cases where it is necessary to hide the defects of the coating or in cases where design features require it, since the coating completely hides the structure and the pattern of the tree. Specialists recommend the use of oil or facade paints, as well as thick alkyd ones, for balconies decorated with lining.

That is, when choosing a paint to cover the lining, several criteria should be taken into account: the climate, the condition and type of finish, and the ecological compatibility of the composition - those that release toxic substances, can only be used on exterior trim.

Impregnation

The advantage of impregnating is that they penetrate deeply into the structure of the tree and protect the material well. To process the lining on the balcony can usually be stained or impregnated wax-based.

Impregnation (especially on the basis of wax) can be called an ideal option for the protection of lining in difficult climatic conditions, in particular, with frequent changes in temperature and humidity, because they are often impregnated in baths and saunas.

Instructions for processing lining on the balcony

If the agent for the future coating is selected, you can go directly to the work - this will require some tools, preliminary surface preparation and careful follow-up of the step-by-step instruction.

Stage one. We prepare everything necessary

To cover the lining with protective compounds, the following tools and additional materials will be needed:

  • antiseptic solution;
  • ladder;
  • working tool (brush, tray, roller, spray gun);
  • container for paint or varnish;
  • painting tape or special adhesive tape;
  • a skin;
  • rags;
  • respirator or protective mask.

About antiseptic solutions should be mentioned separately. The humidity level on the balcony is usually higher than in the apartment, therefore it is possible to prevent the formation of fungus or mold only with the help of antiseptic solutions. It is best to do this both during the installation of the lining, and before applying a protective coating.

Stage two. Preparing the surface

First of all, the lining must be inspected, especially if it is planned to process the surface again. If the old coating has completely fallen into disrepair, it should be well sanded, removing chips and cracks.

In the presence of dark areas or mold spots, bleaching should be carried out with special formulations, depending on the wood species. Nut, beech or birch can be treated with hydrogen peroxide (10-12%), ash - with a solution of 20% peroxide and 20% ammonia in a ratio of 10 to 1, linden, maple, oak - oxalic acid solution (not more than 6 ml per 100 ml boiled water). After treatment, the whitening agent must be washed off with warm water.

Experienced builders recommend to process the sandpaper and a new, recently laid bale, as during the installation, irregularities could be formed, which should be eliminated. After treatment, the surface should be thoroughly washed and allowed to dry, then covered with an antiseptic compound and once again dried well during the day - paint and varnish works  can only be on an absolutely dry lining.
