In the kitchen you can install sink cabinets of different configurations. They can be made from various materials, have all kinds of colors, shapes and designs. According to the types of sink cabinets, they are divided into:

Advice: If you are just starting a career as a carpenter, stick to the direct option.

Material

As for manufacturing materials, kitchen cabinets can be made from almost any lumber. The main requirements for this piece of furniture are:

  • moisture resistance;
  • practicality;
  • wear resistance;
  • durability;
  • aesthetics.

You can make a stainless steel sink cabinet measuring 80 cm wide from:

In addition to the materials for making the sink cabinet, you should also carefully consider the purchase of the sink itself. It can be made from:

  • of stainless steel;
  • artificial stone;
  • ceramics.

Consider the option of a stainless steel sink. Since it is she who has high quality and reasonable cost. In addition, stainless steel is a classic material and is most often found in kitchens. The advantages of the material include:

  • hygiene;
  • practicality;
  • durability;
  • strength.

Stainless steel sinks are divided into economy and premium options. The difference lies in the thickness and quality of the metal sheet, as well as in the design of the product. The most practical are sinks with a thickness of at least 0.9 mm.

Attention: when choosing a stainless steel sink, preference is given to products where the seams are not visible. Experts also recommend choosing a matte finish, as it does not show water stains or scratches.

Drawing for a stainless steel kitchen sink 80 cm

Before you start making a sink cabinet, you need to decide on its materials, design and dimensions. The dimensions of a piece of furniture are determined depending on the availability of free space in the room. For small kitchens, compact and small corner or straight models are made. If the kitchen is spacious and roomy, a massive trapezoidal sink with a wide countertop will fit perfectly in it.

The standard sizes of a sink cabinet are:

  • width 50 cm;
  • depth – 60 cm.

But, as practice shows, housewives prefer sinks with a width of 80 cm. These are exactly what we will talk about in our article.

Reference: when choosing a sink for the kitchen, you should consider its depth. It is inconvenient to wash dishes in a shallow bowl. And with a very deep bowl, you will need to constantly stand in a half-bent position. Therefore, experts recommend choosing a stainless steel bowl for the sink of medium depth (from 16 to 20 cm) and a width of at least 80 cm.

Tools

The materials you will need to make a sink cabinet are:

The following tools are prepared:

  • electric jigsaw;
  • drill;
  • screwdriver;
  • tape measure, ruler and simple pencil;
  • various screwdrivers.

Overhead mounting option

As for how to install a sink on a cabinet, there are only two options:

Installing a sink using an overhead method is a fairly simple option. Here you just need to place the sink on top of the cabinet. Installation of an overhead sink is divided into:

  • ordinary;
  • retractable

With the usual method, all joints are carefully treated with sealant. And a waterproof compound is applied to the top of the cabinet. The sliding method involves installing curved slides on the side and front side of a piece of furniture. Since such a cabinet has special grooves. After assembling the cabinet, the sink is inserted into these grooves and pushed against the wall. Next, you can safely begin connecting the sewerage and water.

Attention: if the weight of the sink is large, then it will not stick to the sealant alone. To prevent a flood, you will need to equip the cabinet inside with auxiliary bars.

The mortise method is more labor-intensive. They are installed directly into the countertop. Therefore, the preparatory step will be to make a corresponding hole in the tabletop. Mortise sinks are secured with special clamps and brackets. They are distinguished by their noble appearance and ease of use.

How to install in the kitchen? Instructions

To install an overhead stainless steel sink you will need:

  • sealant;
  • the cabinet itself;
  • brackets;
  • metal corners;
  • wooden beam.

The installation procedure will look like this:

The easiest way is to install an overhead sink on the pipe. Then you only need to install a sink on the sides of the pipes, pre-treated with sealant. This way you will completely hide the fins of the pipes. Once the sealant has dried, the sink will be locked in position and ready for use.

If you think that the brackets alone are not reliable, you can additionally secure the sink with furniture corners and wooden blocks. Wooden bars are placed in the sink box, and metal corners are attached along the entire perimeter to the bars.

How to install an overhead sink in a cabinet? What kind of mount?

Experts unanimously say that an overhead sink is the easiest to install. The sink is placed on top of a pre-installed faucet. Using L-shaped fasteners, 4 pcs., make marks on the inside of the cabinet. After this, you need to screw in the screws in the marked places. Self-tapping screws for fastening – 15 mm. The end of the box must be covered with sealant; it will protect the furniture. Then we fix it, remove excess sealant and connect the drain to the sewer.

Installing a built-in sink into a countertop

Assembling mortise sinks is a little more difficult, since installation into the countertop is relevant here.
Step one is to make a hole in the countertop to fit the size of the sink.

Unfortunately, not all sinks can be installed independently. It is impossible to do installation under the countertop yourself, since precision down to the millimeter is important here.

A kitchen sink is as necessary an attribute as a stove or refrigerator. There are a huge number of types of sinks, however, the most popular design is the overhead kitchen sink, the availability and ease of installation of which create high demand among consumers. Operation of overhead plumbing fixtures is impossible without the kitchen cabinet on which it is installed. In other words, the sink and base cabinet represent a single structure in the kitchen interior. Therefore, it is very important to attach the stainless steel sink to the cabinet correctly so that washing dishes and food is comfortable and convenient. In our article we will provide an overview of the most common methods of fixing sinks to different reasons, we will describe the algorithm for performing the work independently.

Main characteristics of countertop kitchen sinks

Overhead sinks get their name from the way they are installed. In essence, it is a tabletop with a bowl, made of various materials. Stainless steel is most often used for the production of kitchen sinks, due to the following advantages:

  • Light weight.
  • Durability. Stainless steel plumbing is resistant to water corrosion and lasts for many years without rust removal or special painting.
  • Hygiene. The shiny surface is easy to clean from grease.
  • Affordable price. Stainless steel sinks are the most inexpensive on the market.
  • Easy to install and dismantle. Assembling the sink involves placing it on the surface of the cabinet and fixing the entire structure with self-tapping screws. To remove the sink, just unscrew the 4 plastic fasteners from the underside.

Important! The disadvantages of a stainless steel sink include a low level of sound insulation when in contact with water. Although, in most cases, low-quality products have this disadvantage, in the manufacture of which only one steel sheet. To avoid this problem, purchase a sink with an under-mounted bowl and sufficient depth.

Device

An overhead sink made of stainless steel is a tandem of a sink and a kitchen cabinet without a back wall (to connect the siphon to the drain pipe).

Despite the fact that the cabinet does not have shelves, its space is often used to store a trash can, auxiliary tools and empty bottles. The cabinet is closed with doors, and its outer surface can be made of any material and have a different color. The choice of cabinet design with a sink depends on the overall interior of the kitchen.

Important! The kitchen sink is sold separately or as a set with a cabinet. It is preferable to choose the second option in order to save yourself from the need to look for a suitable size cabinet for the sink.

As for the sink itself:

  • All models of overhead sinks are equipped with sides on three sides (front and sides), thanks to which the sink can be installed on the cabinet.
  • The back side of the structure, adjacent to the wall, does not have a side, but has a raised edge to prevent water from draining onto the floor.
  • The shape of a bowl in an overlay design is most often rectangular or square with rounded edges. This shape makes it easier to clean the interior surface of the plumbing fixtures.
  • The dimensions of the side walls of the bowl are standard: from 40 to 60 cm, and the depth is from 15 to 20 cm.
  • IN back wall The bowl can be equipped with an emergency drain in case the sink overflows with water. When installing this model, the hole is connected to the main drain.
  • Some sink models have a special grid for sifting out large food debris. The grate is mounted in the drain hole of the bowl and performs two functions: it prevents clogging of the drain pipe and closes the hole in the bowl as a plug.
  • The surface of the bowl can be either matte or glossy. The matte option is more practical, as stains and dirt are less noticeable on the surface.

Important! Although stainless steel sinks have a simple design, they can be equipped with additional elements, for example, a second smaller bowl for washing food or a special ribbed countertop for storing wet dishes and laying out vegetables and fruits after washing. The surface of the metal countertop has small depressions and protrusions to prevent food and utensils from rolling off it. The ribbed tabletop can be located either to the left or to the right of the bowl.

How is furniture assembled under the sink?

Installation of an overhead stainless steel sink on a cabinet is carried out in two stages:

  • Assembling the support stand.
  • Sink installation.

To work you will need the following tools and materials:

  • Screwdriver or set of screwdrivers.
  • Fasteners (angles and screws).
  • Pliers.
  • Silicone sealant to protect sinks and cabinets from moisture.

Let's look at each stage of installing an overhead sink in more detail.

Equipment

Any cabinet furniture is delivered unassembled. Fastening parts are included with the furniture, so assembling the cabinet and attaching the stainless steel sink with your own hands is not difficult at all.

The body parts of the support stand are sawn rectangles from a sheet of chipboard. All parts have standard sizes, and the edges are already processed. The cabinet kit includes the following parts:

  • Side walls - 2 pcs.
  • Doors - 2 pcs.
  • Cross bars to ensure rigidity (drawbars) - 3 pcs. The drawers are located between the side walls in the following places: under the bottom (bottom front), under the sink (top front) and in the back in the middle.
  • Accessories (hinges and handles).
  • Fastening elements.

Step-by-step instruction:

  1. Disassemble the packaging, remove the packaging material and lay out all the parts. Check that the components comply with the assembly instructions.
  2. Connect the side walls and front drawers using corners and self-tapping screws. Install the bottom drawer first, and then the top drawer. Screw them to each side panel at the corners.
  3. Connect the resulting structure to the bottom so that the edge of the bottom rests on top of the lower front drawer. Attach the bottom to each side and to the lower front drawer.
  4. Install the back drawer, attaching it using corners to the side walls of the structure in the middle.

Important! The doors are hung on the cabinet only after the sink has been installed.

How to attach a stainless steel sink to a cabinet?

There are several ways to attach the sink to the cabinet:

  • Using sealant. Apply caulk to the edges of the cabinet and install the sink on top.

Important! Although the sealant combines two functions - protective and fixing, the reliability of the fastening is questionable, since the sink must withstand considerable weight loads.

  • Polyurethane foam. This method is very simple. The foam is applied to the edges of the side and front walls of the cabinet, after 10 minutes the sink is installed. After the foam has dried, the excess is cut off.

Important! Although the foam has great adhesive force, in fact, the sink lies only on the walls of the cabinet, so the reliability of this design is questionable.

  • On special L-shaped fastenings. If the kit includes special mounting brackets, the installation of plumbing fixtures will be of higher quality, reliable, durable and strong.

How to attach a stainless steel sink to a cabinet with fasteners?

Step-by-step instruction:

  1. On the inside of the cabinet, mark the locations for fasteners with a pencil.
  2. Screw the screws into the marked places (not all the way).
  3. Secure the brackets using self-tapping screws.
  4. Install the sink into the grooves of the fasteners. Check whether it lies evenly in the place allocated to it.
  5. Remove the sink and turn it upside down.
  6. Apply sealant to the ends of the side walls.
  7. Seal the perimeter of the sink with silicone sealant.
  8. Insert the bowl into the grooves of the brackets.
  9. Screw the sink from the inside with self-tapping screws.
  10. Remove any silicone that protrudes from under the edge of the sink with a wet cloth.
  11. Connect the water supply. Use flexible connecting hoses that make it possible to move the sink away from the wall for ease of installation. Connect the siphon to the drain pipe, connect the flexible hoses from the mixer to the source of hot and cold water.
  12. Hang the doors on the cabinet. To install the doors evenly, first screw the hinges to the doors, then attach them to the side frame and use chalk to mark the locations of the hinges and their holes on the side frames. Screw the doors one by one, making sure that the marked location of the hinges matches.
  • Install a surface-mounted sink with a faucet and siphon already attached to it, as this will be difficult to do after installation.
  • To connect the water supply, use metal-plastic pipes. They are reliable, flexible and durable.
  • The overhead sink can be secured using a sliding method. In this case, the cabinet must be equipped with guides, and the sink must have special curved edges. Installation of this model is quite simple - just insert the curved elements of the sink into the guides of the cabinet and push it all the way.

How to attach a stainless steel sink to a countertop?

The process of installing a sink into a countertop should be carried out according to the following scheme.

Step #1. Contouring the seat

First of all, you need to prepare a place for the future sink. To do this, place the sink itself on the surface of the countertop or make a template from a dense material in the shape of the purchased sink, leaving allowances of 1-2 cm, and try it on the countertop. Mark the template using a marker.

Important! It is much more convenient to work on a table top laid with the wrong side up.

Step #2. Working out the landing zone

First, you need to protect the countertop from scratches and other damage. To do this, cover the space around the intended hole with masking tape.

Using a jigsaw, make a hole for the sink as follows:

  1. Use a drill to make cutting starting points (2 mm), connect them with a chisel, turning them into a gap.
  2. Cut the grooves with a jigsaw, keeping the cut perpendicular.
  3. Process the edges of the hole with a rasp and remove large burrs.
  4. Apply sealant to the cut to prevent the wood from swelling when in contact with water.
  5. If you previously dismantled the countertop, then return it to its place. Apply sealing butyl tape around the perimeter of the hole.

The times when the choice of plumbing equipment was minimal are long gone. Modern appliances are very diverse, so even the most experienced home craftsman sometimes does not know how to install a sink in a kitchen countertop. Let's look at the design features and step by step analyze the simplest method.

How to choose a sink for a countertop

In any plumbing store, the buyer will see a large number of the most important ones, but not all of them are suitable for insertion. There are several options:

  • Invoices. They are installed on the cabinet from above and completely cover it. Extremely easy to install. The main disadvantage is the presence of gaps between the furniture and the sink.
  • Mortise. They are inserted into the hole provided in the base. Installation is a little more complicated, but the cuts are reliably protected from moisture.
  • Integrated. Practical combination of sink and work surface. The side may be on at different levels: level with the table, below it, etc.
  • Under-table. Integrated only in: hardwood or stone. The edge of the bowl drops below the level of the base.

In practice, mortise devices are most often installed. They are durable and attractive, easy to use. The most popular equipment is made of stainless steel and artificial cast.

Rules for installing a countertop kitchen sink

Before the beginning installation work It is worth deciding on the place where the structure will be built. It is usually tied to . However modern technologies allow you to embed the device anywhere in the headset. When choosing an installation location, it is advisable to follow these recommendations:

  • The bowl is placed as close to the work area as possible, making it more convenient to cook.
  • The design divides the work surface into two parts: dirty and clean. In the first, food is processed, in the second, they are served.
  • The sink should not be placed near the stove or refrigerator. It's not practical.
  • It is advisable that there be light where the bowl will stand. If necessary, additional lighting is provided.

It is best to choose a deep appliance: you can wash large dishes and other large items in it. The mixer should be low - This combination will give a minimum of splashes during operation.

What to prepare before installation

For high-quality insertion of equipment into the countertop, in addition to the plumbing fixtures, you need to prepare:

  • electric drill and jigsaw;
  • Screwdriver Set;
  • drill bits;
  • pliers;
  • square, pencil and ruler;
  • fasteners, if they are not included with the device;
  • rubber seal;

The sink should be carefully inspected before purchasing. It should not have any dents or scratches if it is made of stainless steel. If not, you need to additionally check for chips. Even small defects in the sink will not allow it to fit tightly to the base, and this is unacceptable. It is optimal that the kit includes fastenings good quality. Otherwise, it is better to purchase them.

Inserting a sink into a countertop: 5 main steps

The equipment installation work is carried out in five steps.

1. Perform marking

Place the table top face up. Unpacking plumbing fixture. It is optimal if the kit includes a template for marking. If not, we will outline the product itself. To do this, turn it over and place it in the place where it will be placed. It is very important that the built-in sink does not prevent the cabinet doors from opening freely. This needs to be checked.

If everything is fine, draw a contour with a simple pencil and get a line on which the edge of the kitchen sink will be located. Now you need to define the inner contour of the bowl. To do this, we measure its side; its length is on average 12 mm. We put the resulting value inward from the intended line and mark the internal border. This is where you will need to cut the hole. To prevent chipping when cutting, apply masking tape along the contour.

2. Working with the hole

We take a drill and put a drill with a diameter of about 10 mm into it. We drill a hole on the previously outlined internal contour. We install a jigsaw file into this hole and carefully cut out an opening for the bowl. If the device has a quadrangular shape, drill holes are made in each of the corners.

The important point is to hold the sawn part. At the moment when the cutout is almost ready, it may fall out and break the laminated coating. Therefore, you need to either hold it from below or secure it with something suitable. These can be clamps, self-tapping screws, etc. Carefully remove the cut piece and clean the hole from fine dust.

3. Process the cut

You need to understand that absolute sealing of the cutting line is impossible. But it’s worth trying to ensure that it is protected as much as possible. Otherwise, this problem area will first become dark, which will indicate the appearance of moisture inside the wood board. Then pockets of mold may form, and the foundation will become unusable.

We start with sanding. Fine sandpaper We clean the cut, getting rid of all irregularities, and remove dust. Then we take the sealant and apply it to the cleaned surface. Considering that the area will not be noticeable, you can take the usual white composition. For ease of application, we use a small spatula; if you don’t have one, you can apply the product with your finger. Carefully smooth the sealant so that it covers the entire cut with a thick, smooth layer.

4. Preparing the sink

Before installing the equipment, it is necessary to apply sealing tape to it. We turn the bowl over and determine the place where the seal will be located. We take the rubber band that should be included in the delivery kit, and use a rag soaked in gasoline or solvent to degrease it.

Apply a continuous layer to the sealant. There should not be too much of it so that it does not come out during the gluing process. Apply the tape to the edge of the sink and press until the composition sets. It may be that the kit comes with a self-adhesive seal. It's easier to work with. You need to remove the protective strip and stick on the insulator.

5. Attaching the sink to the countertop

Apply a layer of sealant between the side and the seal. Since there is a small chance that a strip of the composition will be visible, you can choose a mixture that matches the color. For example, black or any other. Transparent sealant is a universal solution.

Then we place the fastenings on the back side of the bowl so that they are not fully secured. Now we insert the sink into the base. We begin the installation from the area where the mixer will be mounted.

We tilt the bowl and carefully lower it into the hole, putting the fragment in place. Next, we gradually install the structure so that the sides fit on the inside of the base. To ensure that the bowl fits tightly, carefully press it, moving around the perimeter of the equipment. In this case, excess sealant may protrude from under the device. We immediately remove them with a rag. After hardening, it will not be possible to do this unnoticed. We carry out the installation by tightening the fasteners.

At this point, the installation of the sink can be considered complete. All that remains is to connect it to the sewerage system, put it in place and connect it to the water supply pipeline. It cannot be said that installing mortise equipment is very simple. However, if you wish, you can do it yourself. Accuracy, patience and strict adherence to instructions guarantee a good result.

The type of sink and its location largely determine the convenience of preparing dishes and the comfort of the entire kitchen. This is not only a functional item, but also part of the design of the room. Therefore, the choice of a kitchen sink must be approached with all responsibility.

We will help you decide optimal model and we’ll tell you where it’s best to place it. We will also describe how to install a sink in the kitchen without the help of specialists. The installation technology is quite simple; the main thing is to adhere to the rules and requirements outlined in the article.

One of the key aspects in installation is the type of sink, which implies a certain design and fastening device:

  • mortise– installed in a specially prepared slot in the countertop, cut to fit the size of the sink;
  • invoices– inexpensive and easy-to-install models, placed on a free-standing cabinet.

Based on the type of location relative to the countertop, kitchen sinks are divided into table-top, under-table and wall-mounted.

The first is mounted below the level work surface. The latter are installed on hanging brackets and are rarely used due to their low aesthetics.

Attachment to mounting brackets. In some cases, special fasteners are sold along with the sink. First, self-tapping screws are inserted into the inner walls of the cabinet, onto which the brackets are hung. Then the screws are screwed in ¾. After this, the sink is installed in the opening with mixing on the mounting angle.

During the maneuvering process, you need to ensure that the sink is completely pressed against the cabinet, and the self-tapping screw is fixed in the place where the corner is deepened. Then the screws are tightened until they stop.

Installation of a free-standing sink is somewhat simpler, because... implies in its design the presence of special holes and brackets for fixation

Mounting on wooden bars X. This method is used when the previous two are not suitable, for example, due to a defect in the countertop or lack of appropriate connectors on the sink. In this case, you will need 4 wooden blocks and furniture corners. Using these materials you can make an installation platform.

The height of the bars is selected so that the sink is at the same level as the rest kitchen furniture. The bars are cut to the size of the cabinet and fastened on the outside using furniture corners. Homemade design It is installed on the cabinet and screwed with corners with self-tapping screws on the inside to the walls of the underframe.

In the last two methods, you need to take care of tightness. To do this, apply a layer of sealant to the contact points of the cabinet/wooden platform with the sink.
