Do-it-yourself construction and repairs

DIY door stop. Do-it-yourself door stop: stopper made of wood, fabric. What is a door holder

No matter how beautiful the door may be, it acquires its reliability and functionality only after attaching the door hardware: awnings, lock, peephole, etc. There are no unimportant components here. The absence of at least one structural element (for example, if there is no door stop) weakens the practicality and reliability of the unit.

Experts often call door stops limiters. However, most buyers of interior door systems do not even suspect that such latches exist.

Door stops are mainly used to limit the movement of the door leaf. Such latches prevent the door from opening or, conversely, closing on its own.

This device is especially valuable when there are little inquisitive children at home who strive to explore everything everywhere. The limiters will fix the position of the door, so the door will not pinch the fingers of a curious baby.

In addition, experts strongly recommend using clamps in residential areas, where people with disabilities are often present. disabilities. And in addition, these restraints will become valuable assistants for pet owners: the pets’ paws, tails and other body parts will be safe and sound.

  • to rationally plan free space;
  • to protect the canvas and the adjacent wall from mechanical damage;
  • to fix the sash in a certain position, for example, when you need to carry some large items through the doorway;
  • The limiter serves as an additional means of burglary.

By the way, door stops can also serve a decorative function. Modern manufacturers produce stops in a unique and original design, so such stops can become a valuable addition to the interior.

Fasteners can be used in apartments and private houses, in office premises, shopping centers and other public places. In fact, limiters can be used almost anywhere.

Classification of door stops

All locking elements can be divided into the following groups:

  • by location (wall, floor and over-door);
  • taking into account the operating principle ( simple devices, mechanical devices, as well as magnetic stops).

Moreover, door stops vary in material, size and design.

Having understood the features of each such retainer, it is easier for the buyer to make the right choice. And besides, this information is very important for those who will install the stops themselves.

Floor fittings

As the name of this clamp suggests, it is installed on the floor. Such stops differ in their functional purpose. Some of them are used to hold the canvas in a certain position. Other elements control the degree of door opening.

With the right choice of such fittings, they completely merge with the floor covering, so they do not spoil the appearance of the door structure and do not distract from the main design concept of the room. Essentially, floor clamps are a one-stop solution. However, they have a “contraindication”.

Experts do not recommend placing such stops on laminate floors. Fixing this limiter on the laminate deprives the flooring of the ability to respond to changes occurring in the room: a jump in air humidity, temperature fluctuations, etc. Installing these fittings on laminate flooring may cause the flooring to swell and crack.

All floor clamps can be divided into the following groups:

  • stationary devices;
  • mobile devices.

Representatives of the first group provide for installation in a specific location. These, for example, can be simple leaf clamps, equipped with a soft plate that absorbs shock and prevents the canvas from opening more than it should.

In addition, there is a magnetic door stop. In this case, the locking element is installed on the floor, and a metal plate is mounted on the lower part of the sash. When the door is opened, the metal plate is magnetized to the stopper, due to which the leaf is fixed in a certain position.

Mobile clamps can have the most bizarre shapes. For example, figurines, soft toys, sliding wedges, etc. Such stoppers can be moved to another location if desired. And besides, mobile clamps are easy to make with your own hands.

Wall stops

The wall door stop consists of two elements: one part is attached to the wall, and the second element is installed on the door leaf. Such accessories vary in their operating principle.

There are latches that control the opening of the sash (they can be simple or magnetic), as well as slamming limiters.

The latter, as a rule, are attached to the platband located above the doorway, which eliminates the need to drill the surface of the door. And besides, such limiters have two positions: passive and active (in this case they are at an angle of 90 degrees).

Over-door clamps

All door stops can be classified into one of these groups:

  1. C-shaped products made of soft plastic, rubber or other similar material.
  2. Stops, which are a metal structure that are used to support the blade in the required position.

Material of manufacture

The cost of the stops largely depends on the material used in their production, as well as the mechanism that ensures the fixation of the canvas.

Most often, floor, wall and door stops are made of steel, aluminum, plastic and wood. However, there are also soft restraints: they are made of rubber or even fabric.

In addition, it is important to choose the right color for the retainer: it should either match the door hardware or the same shade as the walls (flooring).

When choosing a stop, you should take into account the conditions in which this stop will be used. For example, if a lock is selected for a door that is installed at the entrance to a children's room, it is better to give preference to fittings made of soft material.

If the emphasis restricts the movement of the heavy interior door, for example, made of solid oak, it is better to choose metal stoppers. But magnetic fasteners are a justified choice when you need to securely fix the canvas in the open position.

Installation features

Installing a door stop with your own hands will go without surprises if, before you start installation work, the craftsman will carefully study the accompanying instructions included with the product.

Chain as a door travel stop.

In general, installation of the clamp can be represented by the following steps:

  1. The tools necessary to perform the work are prepared.
  2. The location of the stop is determined. To do this, you need to open the door and fix the door leaf in such a position that the distance between the door and the wall is at least 5 cm. And also, when determining the distance from the wall to the door leaf, you need to take into account the size of the handle installed on the door leaf.
  3. Perform markings (for this you will need a construction pencil).
  4. Drill holes for fasteners.
  5. Restrictors are attached.

If a brass fastener is installed, so that the product does not lose its beautiful appearance, it should be coated with a layer of varnish.

As a rule, installing a door stop with your own hands does not take much time: even a novice home craftsman can complete this operation in less than an hour.

A do-it-yourself door stop will help you avoid marks on the walls of your apartment from door handles that open wide. It may vary in appearance. The limiters differ in design, shape, material, color, price, and location of its attachment. The main thing is that this item fulfills its purpose, stopping the door hitting the wall when opening.

The limiter is used to ensure that when opening the door, the handle does not hit the wall, thereby damaging its coating.

Floor stop for door

Such irreplaceable accessories can be purchased in the store. But it is possible to make them yourself. The simplest limiter is made of sheet steel. To make it you need to purchase:

  • steel;
  • metal scissors;
  • metal drill;
  • hammer;
  • square;
  • pencil;
  • perforator;
  • screwdriver;
  • screws.

The floor stop can be made from a self-tapping screw by screwing a wooden or metal knob onto it.

You can simply cut out a strip of steel and bend it at an angle of 90º, or even take and screw a ready-made furniture corner used when installing furniture to the floor. But it won’t take much time to shape the sheet into an intricate shape using scissors. With a wider range of tools at hand, the steel stopper can be cut through or engraved. But, if you don’t have such tools, you can get by with painting or a layer of varnish.

You should not make parts on the stopper that protrude towards the door, as this will damage its coating. 2 or more holes are drilled on the bottom side with which the stopper will be attached to the floor. When installing on carpet, you should be especially careful, since the pile, when fastened, can wrap around the screw and, as a result, a hole is formed. It is better to cut a hole to the size of the stopper immediately and only then secure it.

You can place the door stop with your own hands in any convenient place; there are no clear rules about its location. They are usually located on a line from the middle of the door leaf to its outer edge. The closer the stop is to the door frame, the more load is placed on the door hinges, which loosen faster than usual. Therefore, place the stopper approximately in the middle, slightly moving towards the edge.

When the location for the stopper is selected, the door is opened so that the distance from the lock handle to the wall is at least 1 cm. The stopper is installed at this location. 2 holes are marked and drilled in the floor, a fixing dowel is inserted into one of them, and a pin or guide pin is inserted into the other. The dowel is hammered into the required hole, the limiter is put in place, and you need to carefully ensure that the pin also takes its place. The structure is finally fixed.

You can cut a stopper out of wood, but this material may not cope with the loads from a constantly opening door. Such a figurine must be covered with several layers of durable parquet varnish.

Soft door stops

The soft stopper can be sewn from any fabric and decorated with bows, beads and buttons.

The figurine of such a limiter can be any animal or figure. They are sewn from any fabric. No special tools are needed for installation, and for sewing you will need an almost standard set:

  • tracing paper;
  • fabrics;
  • synthetic fluff, holofiber;
  • pencil or fabric marker;
  • matching threads;
  • sewing machine;
  • threads in color;
  • scissors;
  • tailor's pins;
  • weighting agent;
  • accessories for decorating the stopper.

The pattern is transferred to tracing paper or drawn directly on it. The size, as a rule, does not exceed 40 cm, but you should not make it much smaller, since it will be difficult for such a figurine to cope with its responsibilities. All details are cut out from tracing paper and applied to the fabric. The figurine can be solid, but the animals are often sewn on with ears and a tail, and sometimes paws. This gives freedom in sewing and sometimes allows you to save fabric.

All parts, including the body, legs, ears and tail, are made in pairs. If you cut them out of fabric of different shades, the figure will have more life and it will look more interesting. To cut out the pieces evenly, they are pinned to the fabric before being outlined with chalk. When cutting, you should remember the seam allowances, which should be at least 1.5 cm. Paired parts are folded right sides together and sewn with small stitches on sewing machine, making sure to leave an area for turning the part inside out and stuffing it.

Patterns of soft restraints are a typical body with a curled tail, and the head can be of any animal.

Ears, paws and tail, if present, are filled completely with synthetic soft filler and set aside temporarily, as they are sewn to the finished body last. the sand did not spill out, you can put it inside, tied in several sealed plastic bags. Do the same with pebbles. It is better to choose pebbles without sharp corners, as they can tear the fabric and damage the door or wall during operation of the soft stopper.

The remaining free space inside is tightly stuffed with synthetic filler, then the hole for stuffing is carefully sewn up with small hidden stitches. The paws, ears and tail, if present, are sewn into place. The animal figurine can be additionally decorated with a scarf, collar or bell around the neck. Everyone decorates the animals' faces according to their wishes, sewing on beads, buttons or drawing eyes, nose and mouth.

The finished soft stopper can be hung on the door handle; in this case, it should be large enough to take up space greater than the distance from the door leaf to the end of the door handle.

You can attach it to the wall in the right place so that the door handle hits it instead of the wall. The weight will help it stay in place and not move due to air currents when the door is opened. You can place such a toy on the floor, but there it will quickly get dirty. And if you don’t secure it, it will move from its desired location.

If you do not limit the movement of the door, the handle installed on it may damage the wall covering when opening. To avoid this, you need to install a door stop. Depending on the installation location, they are divided into floor and wall. In addition, opening limiters for interior or entrance doors may differ in design, that is, they can be stationary or mobile (portable). Which type to choose depends on both your preferences and layout features.

The design of these simple, but at the same time very useful devices is quite simple, so making them yourself is not difficult, the main thing is to find a little free time and patience for this.

Making a limiter with your own hands

Let's consider two versions: one stationary - floor-standing, the second - mobile. The first will require skills in working with hand tools, the second will be more suitable for those who like to do handicrafts.

Manufacturing and installation of a floor stop for a door

To make a floor stop, you need to prepare the following tools:

  • regular scissors for cutting metal;
  • drills for steel and concrete;
  • an electric impact drill or a hammer drill (the latter will require an attachment for regular drills);
  • screwdriver or screwdriver;
  • soft pencil for drawing on metal and a corner.

Necessary materials:

  • steel plate;
  • « quick installation» (screws with dowels), needed to attach the floor stop.

The manufacturing technology is quite simple:

  • using scissors, cut out a steel strip of arbitrary length;
  • the finished strip is bent at an angle of 90°;
  • holes are drilled for fasteners in the strip and in the floor;
  • Using “quick installation”, we screw the steel angle.

To prevent the floor stop from damaging the upholstery or door covering, we recommend making a soft covering for it, for example, making a leatherette cover with foam padding.

If a wall stop for doors is required, the same principle is used, except where the device is attached, it is mounted not on the floor, but on the wall.

Having shown some imagination, it will not be difficult to make and install with your own hands a floor-mounted door opening limiter that succinctly fits into the interior style of the room.

Mobile soft fabric restraint

The shape of the limiter can be any, it all depends on your taste and imagination, for example, you can make an animal figurine with your own hands or in the form of a leaf of an exotic plant. For work we will need the following materials and tools:

  • sheet of tracing paper;
  • a piece of fabric (the choice depends on your preferences);
  • any material for padding, for example, synthetic fluff or foam rubber;
  • chalk or pencil for drawing on fabric;
  • a skein of thread of the same tone with the selected material;
  • any model of sewing machine;
  • tailor's scissors;
  • a set of pins;
  • If you want to decorate the stopper, you should choose the appropriate fittings.

As you can see, this is almost a standard sewing kit.

The most optimal size for the figurine will be between 30 and 40 centimeters. A large product looks bulky, and a small one will not perform its function. After you decide on the design, you can start making the pattern. To do this, transfer the drawing onto tracing paper and carefully cut it out. The pattern is pinned to the fabric and outlined with chalk or pencil. Before cutting, make sure to leave some extra space (seam allowances).

When all the parts are cut out, they are folded right sides together and sewn together with a fine seam, so that it is possible to turn them out and insert the stuffing.

Small parts of the figurine, for example, petals (if you make a stopper in the shape of a plant) are completely filled with stuffing; a weighting agent must be added to the main part. Sand or sea pebbles can play its role. The weight of the weight should be in the region of 250 - 350 grams. To prevent small fractions from spilling through the fabric, they should be placed in a sealed bag. You can use a regular cellophane bag as it. Make sure that the material used for the filler does not have sharp edges that can damage both the fabric and the door upholstery or wall covering.

This type of do-it-yourself limiter does not require special installation; it hangs on the door handle and can be removed at any time if the need arises. As for shape and color, there are no restrictions for the manifestation of your imagination.

  • steel plate;
  • hand scissors for metal;
  • metal drill with a cylindrical shank;
  • hammer;
  • construction square;
  • pencil;
  • screwdriver;
  • impact electric drill;
  • screws.

Photo 3 You can make a floor door stop yourself: for the top of the stop, take plastic plug, fix the plate on the reverse side using screws.

There are several options for this mechanism. The first is to bend the steel plate at an angle of 90º, using scissors you can give it any shape. The second is to install a metal furniture corner into the floor, which is used in the assembly of cabinet furniture. One part of the product is fixed to the door frame, and the second to the door. In this case, it is very convenient to adjust the height of the rod. This way you can adjust the degree of restriction of the door travel. To give an aesthetic appearance, the product can be coated with varnish or paint.

Several through holes are drilled on the bottom of the plate for fastening to the floor surface. You should be more careful when installing the mechanism on carpet. When drilling eyelets, small piles may become entangled on the fasteners, which may result in a loose fit to the floor surface. To prevent such a defect, first of all, holes are made in the floor based on the markings, and then the latch itself is attached.

The location of the clamp depends on the preferences of the master, so it can be mounted on any floor area. It is worth considering one rule: the close location of the stopper increases the load on the door hinges, which over time will lead to their loosening. For this reason, the door striker should be installed approximately centered or offset toward the edge.

After determining the insertion location of the limiter, it is necessary to open the door as much as possible and make markings on the floor. The distance from the handle to the wall should not be less than 1 cm. At least 2 holes are drilled in the floor. The first thing is needed to install the locking rod, which is simply driven into the groove; the second is for the pin.

The easiest option is a wooden floor stop for the door. This device can be supplemented by attaching a magnet; it needs to be sunk a little into the wood. This mechanism will require another magnet on the door leaf. It can be screwed in with ordinary screws. The power of the magnetic plate must be selected based on the massiveness of the door structure. It is worth remembering that such a mechanism does not have a long service life.

DIY soft limiter

In order to create your own door lock, you can use simple instructions for sewing such an accessory. A distinctive feature of such accessories is its mobility. In order to install it, no complex devices are needed. Let's figure out what tools and materials will be needed to sew a soft stopper:

  • thick fabric such as felt, fleece or corduroy;
  • filler: synthetic padding polyester or any cereals (buckwheat, millet, etc.);
  • tracing paper;
  • multi-colored threads;
  • scissors;
  • sewing machine or needle;
  • thin pins with a round head;
  • weighting agent: sand, stones;
  • accessories for decoration.

It is necessary to decide what shape the limiter will be. The most popular options are various animals, such as cats or hares. A pattern is made on tracing paper, then transferred to the material using chalk. After marking, two parts of the animal are cut out. The size should not be large or very small, the standard size is at least 40 cm. You should not get rid of scraps of fabric. You can use it to make ears or a tail for an animal.

It is better to take several types of fabric, different colors - this will add color to this product and, of course, decorate the interior with a fresh note. To comply correct proportions, the parts are pinned to the fabric with special pins. After the marking is completed, it is necessary to increase the distance from the edges of the part by 1.5 cm - this is the expected level of the seam. Each pair of parts is folded right side out and stitched with small stitches using a sewing machine or by hand. It is worth remembering that the soft door latch will be weighted with sand or other material, so it is necessary to leave a gap. After completing the firmware, it is necessary to pour a weighting material into the inside of the body, no more than 250 g, and sew up the gap left. In order to avoid sand spilling out, it is placed in a plastic bag and then placed in the workpiece. If the size of the animal allows, you can additionally place a soft filler.

Photo 4 To create a soft stopper pattern, there are standard blanks in the form of an animal’s body; the head can be attached to any animal. Based on your tastes.

Next, stuffing is done with soft fillers for the ears, paws and tail. They need to be sewn to a ready-made body. Lastly, the animal is decorated with various beads, buttons, clothes, etc.

A self-made stopper is placed on the door handle. It will make a wonderful tandem with both children's and adult interiors.

You are tired of loudly slamming doors and unpleasant chips on the walls left by the door leaf, then it’s time to purchase and install a door opening limiter. Next, we will analyze in detail the types of such devices, and finally we will show how to install a door stop with your own hands.

Door opening limiters are quite varied.

The stool pushed under the door and the homemade wooden wedge are slowly becoming history. Nowadays the industry produces a wide variety of stops, which can sometimes be difficult to understand.

Classification of limiters

In fact, a door stop is one of the types of small fittings. Doors are divided into entrance and interior; the weight and dimensions of the door leaves can vary greatly, respectively, and the door stops used are different.

In addition, door stops can perform different, sometimes opposing, functions. It’s one thing when you need a stop so that the canvas doesn’t hit the wall, and quite another thing when you need to protect children’s fingers from a door that closes at the wrong time.

But how to do right choice, if often an ordinary person has a rather vague idea of what kind of mechanism he needs. First, let's go over some basic terms.

Original door stop design.

  • Stops - designed to limit the angle of rotation of the door, and sometimes to fix the leaf at the end point when it comes into contact with the stop;
  • Chips are needed to soften or prevent the door leaf from hitting a wall or some other object, for example, furniture;
  • Stoppers - these structures must rigidly fix the canvas at a certain point. The most striking representative of stoppers is the well-known chain;
  • Overlays - prevent the door from completely slamming, leaving a small gap between the jamb and the door leaf;
  • Latches are essentially a type of lock; the latch secures the door in a closed position. There is still no consensus among experts whether latches should be considered locks or stops;
  • A door closer is usually a limiter for opening the front door. The direct purpose of the door closer is to ensure smooth closing of the doors, but there are models that allow you to fix the door leaf open at a certain point.

Many modern door closers can be adjusted locally.

Despite the variety of terms and countless models, all these designs are divided into 3 fundamental areas:

  1. Stoppers installed on the floor;
  2. Wall-mounted limiters;
  3. Stoppers installed on the door itself.

Floor models

A floor stopper for a door is perhaps the most reliable option, because the floor is static, it will not go anywhere, plus the price for most floor models, as a rule, does not “go beyond” 200 rubles.

The color of the permanently fixed stop-post should be in harmony with the overall design.

Metal stop posts are stationary stops that are rigidly attached to the floor. The height of such a stop ranges from 3 to 7 cm, the average diameter of the cylinder is 20 - 30 mm. In order not to “mutilate” the door, there is a groove on the post with a rubber or polyurethane seal.

If installed correctly, the column itself will not be in any danger, but the seals will have to be changed periodically. It is better not to install bollards in the residential area of an apartment or private house, as it is easy to trip over them, but the bollard is perfect as a limiter for opening the front door.

When choosing such a column, it is better to give preference to shiny and contrasting models. At least they can be seen from afar and there is less chance that a person will trip.

Semicircular door opening stop.

The semicircular door stopper looks like a quarter of a dissected ball with a shock-absorbing gasket. There is no fundamental difference in the operation of posts and semicircular stops, but when installing the latter, you need to take into account the installation angle so that the door leaf comes into contact with the rubber gasket and does not hit the metal.

A magnetic door stop allows you to hold the door in the open position.

A door stop equipped with a magnet is a more functional design. A small magnet is built into the head of the stationary stop, and a mating metal plate is attached to the door, as a result the door leaf is fixed when it comes into contact with the stop.

Magnetic structures, of course, are not very suitable for entrance doors, because the strength of the magnet is not enough to hold the door leaf in gusts of wind, but indoors such stops work flawlessly.

Cork stops are only suitable for the corresponding design.

Cork, rubber and polyurethane stops are varieties of the same posts, the only difference is in the material. But before installing such an original stop, you need to think carefully, because a soft stop is not a guarantee that you won’t “beat off” your fingers on it, plus the cork is practically invisible on the carpet.

The ability to lock the head of the stop in a latch installed on the door jamb is quite a useful feature. Such devices have proven themselves especially good on the entrance doors of offices, administrative buildings and shops, in general, anywhere where a simple latch could pop out due to negligence or a gust of wind.

A spring stop is a good solution for temporarily fixing a door leaf.

The design solution is ingeniously simple: synthetic anti-slip “hedgehogs” are fixed on both sides of the flexible steel plate; you only need to slightly bend the plate and slide it under the doors.

This device is well suited for temporarily securing doors, for example, if you need to bring in furniture. With this stop, even if the door moves due to an accidental push, the expensive laminate or parquet will remain intact.

A wedge-shaped retainer is the simplest solution to the problem.

Wedge-shaped, or as they are also called, mobile latches are now made from various synthetic materials, but in essence these are the same wooden wedges that our grandfathers inserted under doors, only the external surroundings have changed. Although synthetics must be given their due, such a door stop does not slide on the floor.

The signal limiter may become the last bastion in the path of robbers. Cheaper models simply make a loud sound when the door leaf comes into contact with them, while “advanced” stops silently send a radio signal to some receiving device, for example, to a mobile phone or security remote control.

Wall models

Installing a door stop on the wall is an excellent solution for rooms where, for one reason or another, it is not desirable to attach the device to the floor, for example, expensive floor coverings, such as marble or natural parquet.

Classic wall door stop.

The cost of wall-mounted devices starts from 150 rubles, although this is not much, but still more than that of floor limiters.

The market leader here is the standard stop with a platform and rubber shock absorber mounted on top of a metal rod. From floor option made from cork, it is distinguished by the presence of a wider support platform and a rod length from 5 to 15 cm.

When choosing, you need to consider what material your wall is made of. For monolithic brick or concrete walls there is no difference, but for drywall you need to buy a device with a wide mounting platform (minimum 100x100 mm), otherwise the gypsum board will simply break from a pinpoint impact.

The simplest wall stop with screw fixation.

The wall-mounted version of the magnetic device may differ from its floor-standing “brother” only in the length of the rod, otherwise they are identical.

It is often not possible to secure the stopper to the floor, and rubber shock absorbers with a rod leave unpleasant marks on the door leaf. In this case, a soft pad on the wall under the handle will help you.

Soft synthetic material will smoothly absorb the shock, to install the stop you do not need to drill into the wall, just glue the device onto double-sided tape, and most importantly, there are a lot of design options here and choosing a model to suit your interior will not be difficult.

Soft model with handle support

The line of wall fixtures also includes stops with a reliable lock. As shown in the photo below, the mechanism itself is mounted on the wall with self-tapping screws, and the hook with the platform is screwed from the bottom end to the door leaf.

The principle of operation is simple: a rounded door hook, approaching the stopper, lifts the moving part and, thanks to the spring, the latch catches. The only inconvenience is that to release the doors you will have to push the latch manually.

Wall-mounted version of the stop with a lock.

Door fittings

The beauty is that if we are talking about wooden or plastic doors, then to attach such a stop you only need a screwdriver, and in some cases you can get by with just glue. Plus the walls and floor will remain intact.

In folding metal stops, the base plate is screwed to the door leaf with self-tapping screws, but during installation you need to be careful about setting the angle of inclination of the stop relative to the floor; an acute angle can cause the mechanism to break. The optimal inclination is around 45º.

In addition, when choosing, it is better to give preference to mechanisms that have a folding spring; they are much more reliable.

Folding metal door stopper.

The tape stop can be safely called a symbol of simplicity. There are platforms for self-tapping screws attached on both sides of the durable tape; you just need to screw these platforms to the doors and jamb.

True, the appearance of this limiter leaves much to be desired, plus such tapes fray or break quite quickly.

If you still decide to buy a tape stop, then it is better to choose elastic stretchable models; their price is not much higher, but such stops are more convenient to use.

The tape stop is considered one of the simplest and most affordable options.

The retractable door stop is a rod with a peculiar brake pad. It is installed in a vertical position and you can decide for yourself exactly where to fix the structure.

The retractable door stop is a fairly compact and convenient device.

The sliding model is designed to rigidly fix the door leaf at certain points; there can be several points, it all depends on the number of cutouts in the solid base groove.

This device cannot be called completely over-the-door, since the base part with the groove is attached to the door jamb, and only the movable rod is fixed to the door leaf. Although this is not essential, on some models the fastening units can be swapped.

The undoubted advantage of such a stop is its installation at the top of the doors, where it does not interfere with anyone. On the other hand, to release the rod from the fixing groove you will have to reach it, which is not always convenient.

One of the popular sliding stop models.

Soft linings prevent the door from slamming. These devices are especially convenient in children's rooms; with such pads, your child's fingers are much less likely to get caught in the doors. There is no need to talk about installation at all, the rubber band is simply put on the door.

The soft pad is designed to protect the doors from accidental slamming.

Installation technique

Installing a door stop is quite simple. We won’t talk about gluing options, you can handle this yourself. As for fixing with screws, the instructions are something like this:

  1. We install the door with a gap between the handle and the wall of about 20 mm and mark the position on the floor;
  2. According to the mark on the floor, we set the stop at the desired angle;
  3. We drill a hole for the dowel for the self-tapping screw and insert the dowel itself;
  4. We screw the stop with a self-tapping screw to the floor.

Wall and door opening limiters are mounted in approximately the same way, so retell this simple instructions it makes no sense.

Conclusion

We tried to reflect as fully as possible all types of door stops. In the video in this article you will find additional information on this topic.
