Chevrolet Orlando is one of the few American-made cars that can simultaneously combine such qualities as maneuverability, comfort, practicality and expressive appearance. All this makes it one of the most popular SUVs in its class. However, the main obstacle that prevents it from becoming the most popular jeep in Russia is its surprisingly small ground clearance. Despite the inherent "Chevrolet Orlando" specifications, the ground clearance of this car is only 17 centimeters. With our pits, such a jeep will not last long. What to do then? And here the question arises among car enthusiasts: “How to increase ground clearance?”
"Chevrolet Orlando": increase with the help of larger diameter disks
Let us immediately note that this method will improve the performance of the jeep only from an aesthetic point of view, since not all tires (even with a diameter increased by 1-2 inches) are able to provide the SUV with the same maneuverability and controllability. The fact is that installing large wheels entails widening the wheel arches (otherwise they simply won’t fit inside), and installing low-profile tires, firstly, is ineffective, since this will not change the ground clearance of the Chevrolet Orlando, but - secondly, it’s simply pointless - with our roads you won’t go far on such tires either. With each collision, the pit is subjected to colossal loads, which can subsequently form a tear, a lump, or even a hernia.
How to increase ground clearance on a Chevrolet Orlando? Installing rubber or polyurethane spacers
This method is the most civilized and practical from a security point of view. The installation of such devices does not entail a loss of vehicle controllability and maneuverability, and certainly does not affect the acceleration dynamics. Rubber spacers are devices that look more like a flattened silent block. By the way, their design is also the same. Both the silent block and the spacer are based on a metal hinge, which is covered with high-quality and wear-resistant rubber. These devices are installed between the shock absorber and suspension arms. On a Chevrolet Orlando, ground clearance can be increased in this way by at least a couple of centimeters. It is also worth noting that these spacers do not make the suspension stiff, as happens with the installation of home-made springs. Such mechanisms serve for quite a long time - up to 100-150 thousand kilometers. Then they sag, and the Chevrolet Orlando's ground clearance returns to its previous 17 centimeters.
Where to install?
They can be installed on any axle - rear, front, or even two at once. The only thing that needs to be observed is the pairing of the installation. If the spacer is only on one side of the car, this will significantly shift the center of gravity, which can not only lead to loss of maneuverability, but also increase the risk of the car tipping over. Therefore, install them only in pairs, and then your car will never roll over.
A family car from a well-known manufacturer that has the body of a compact minivan is the Chevrolet Orlando - a car presented to the public at the Paris Motor Show in 2008, and the launch of mass production began in 2010.
This car was created on the now popular platform and we can say that it turned out well. This model came as a replacement in the company’s line.
Design
Many argue that appearance– the weakest side of this car, since compared to other models in this class it does not look attractive and does not stand out in any way. Nevertheless, you can hardly call him not beautiful, just look at the photos and videos, and you yourself will understand that calling him ugly or not beautiful will not work.
Let's start with the front part, it has large head optics that succinctly fit into the design of the model. The face also acquired a signature radiator grille with a huge logo. All this gives the car solidity. The large bumper has air intakes and fog lights, as well as a lip that improves aerodynamics.
When looking at the profile, you understand that the model has good off-road performance and can perform well in this element. There are linings along the bottom that are designed to protect the body from damage when driving off-road. The rear view mirror is mounted on a foot, which is an attribute of sports cars and therefore it does not look right here. The rear has vertical drains and a huge tailgate. The pentagonal headlights also look good.
Technical characteristics of Chevrolet Orlando
Nothing surprising or super-fast is offered to the buyer of this car, since this is not at all necessary for a family car, it is an ordinary engine with ordinary characteristics. There are only two types of engines in the line, a gasoline and a diesel power unit. The gasoline engine has a volume of 1.8 liters and a power of 141 horsepower, and the diesel engine has a volume of 2 liters and a power of 163 horsepower. These internal combustion engines operate in tandem with either a 5-speed or 6-speed gearbox.
The buyer can choose the type of drive; it will be either front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive in cases where a trip out of town to the country is possible.
It cannot be said that Chevrolet Orlando engines can boast of dynamic performance; acceleration is weak, but it is more than enough for city driving. Also, the units do not show very high fuel consumption rates; the regular version of the engine consumes 7 liters of gasoline and a little more if an automatic transmission is installed. Diesel engine has approximately the same indicator.
Interior
Since this family car The main attention here is paid to the interior, as evidenced by the presence of 3 rows of seats for passengers. It was also thought out that the family would transport something, and if we fold the third row of seats in the car, we would get a luggage compartment of almost 1000 liters, and if we also fold the second row of seats, the volume of the luggage compartment would increase to 1594 liters.
The model received 5 safety stars and received a high percentage of child safety as the manufacturer really thought about this when creating the car. The center console and, in general, everything that surrounds the driver is very similar to the Chevrolet Cruze, so we won’t tell you everything, but you can just look at the photo or read an article about the Cruze. The interior is of high quality and you can’t argue with that.
The interior of the Chevrolet Orlando is already his strong point, everything here looks beautiful and tasteful. Many people see great similarities with the Cruze in the interior, and this is true; many interior details are taken from the Cruze. The center console has an impressive multimedia system display, under which there are keys for controlling this system. Below, as on many cars, there are selectors for controlling the air conditioning and heater, and then there is the gearbox selector.
The steering wheel is 3-spoke and it was taken from Cruise, but the dashboard is different, it has in-depth analog instruments with blue backlighting and a large on-board computer, there are of course similarities, but there are also differences. By the way, the steering wheel is adjustable both in height and reach. It will be comfortable to sit in the front; the seats are comfortable and heated.
Rear passengers will also be able to fit comfortably; three people can fit there without any problems. They have the ability to adjust the backrest angle. There is more than enough headroom and plenty of legroom too. Air deflectors are provided for the rear row. There is also a third row of seats, which is quite easy to sit on; you just need to fold down one seat of the second row and that’s all. The third row has only two seats, but in terms of space it can accommodate even adult passengers.
Options and price of Chevrolet Orlando
The model had a total of 4 configurations, each of which was supplemented with something. There were LTZ, LT, LT+ and base LS trim levels.
Basic received:

The LT and LT+ versions, in addition to everything previous, received:
- dynamic stabilization system;
- armrests;
- climate control;
- 6 airbags.
The most expensive version of LTZ also received in addition:

There were also paid options that required the presence of displays for rear passengers, along with a DVD system. A navigation system and leather interior were also offered. When the model was still on sale, it was necessary to pay 760,000 rubles for the basic configuration, and the top version would cost 910,000 rubles. Based on these figures, you can roughly guess how much this model will cost you on the secondary market. By the way, the diesel version was more expensive; for the most expensive one you had to pay a little more than 1 million rubles.
There is nothing surprising about it and we are talking about it only for those people who want to buy it and need information about this car. This is an excellent option for a family, so purchasing a Chevrolet Orlando will be successful.

Chevrolet Orlando ground clearance is 160 mm, which is quite a lot, but not enough for off-road travel. Still, this is a family car for a quiet ride. And 16 centimeters of ground clearance is quite enough for the Chevrolet Orlando.
The Chevrolet Orlando is much smaller than full-fledged American minivans such as the Dodge Caravan or Chrysler Voyager. Therefore, you should not expect large spaces from the third row of seats. It's good if your teenage children fit there. Moreover, if you bring all three rows of seats into stowed condition. Then there is simply no room in the trunk for things.
Installing a roof rack on the Chevrolet Orlando can partially solve this problem, but the manufacturer does not recommend loading it with more than 100 kilograms. In general, Orlando's loading platform, if two rows of seats are folded, is 2.6 meters in length. It’s worth considering that this is not a truck and you can’t really carry bricks and cement there. As for installing a roof rack, this has both its pros and cons. Of course, you can load more, but this will necessarily cause an increase in fuel consumption, no matter how aerodynamic the shape of the roof rack is. In general, the Chevrolet Orlando is a fairly compact minivan, from which you should not expect large spaces, especially in the third row of seats. After all, the length of the car is only 4,652 mm, which is not much at all, even despite the increased wheelbase.
