How to make stamps. Printing at home

Seals are used to approve office documents and are an indispensable attribute of any responsible manager. Products with standard stamps such as “paid”, “approve”, etc. You can just buy it at an office supply store. Non-standard seals that have a company logo with individual inscriptions explaining its activities or details are made by hand. You will learn how to do this from our article.

The print will be made on the basis of liquid polymer. First, you need to create it in a graphic editor on your PC in the form of a drawing. A negative of the image is then printed onto matte film using a laser printer. It should have good contrast and be without a “veil” in its light areas. To give the negative optical density, it should be treated with a special darkening agent, and for preservation, it should be covered with a protective release film.

Then you need to create a mold for the polymer. To do this, you need to apply adhesive border tape around the perimeter of the negative, stepping back from its edges by 3-7 mm. It will prevent the polymer from spreading.

Then the liquid polymer should be poured into the resulting form and covered with a transparent film. This composition must be placed in a copy cassette, which consists of two glasses with limiters at the corners equal to the height of the curb. The glasses are pressed down and the cassette is placed in the exposure chamber. In this case, the readable side should be on top.

The exposure time is set. The distance from the source of ultraviolet radiation to the cassette is considered optimal when its value is 10-15 cm. This is usually determined by the design of the installation. At a greater distance, the exposure time increases. On devices manufactured by Pechati-M LLC, exposure of the first side of the cassette is 60-70 seconds, and the second side is 120-130 seconds.

After illumination of both sides of the cassette in turn, the form is disassembled. The negative must be removed from it carefully to avoid the printing elements being torn from the substrate. The mold should be washed to remove any remaining unhardened polymer and placed in the tanning chamber. Here, in 7-10 minutes, the printing form will acquire high strength. Then the print needs to be cut out of the mold and glued to the equipment.

DIY rubber stamp

You understand, the scope of application of these things is limitless - scrapbooking, postcards, gifts for children, printing on fabric/paper/walls, and so on. I needed to make a stamp with the logo of my jewelry workshop. Now I can turn ordinary packaging from kraft paper into something memorable and pleasant, such that I won’t be ashamed to give it as a gift.

So, we need:

- Sketch
- rubber block (a regular eraser will also work)
- wood cutters
- breadboard knife
- ball pen
- wax crayon

If this list scares you, don't worry! Everything can be easily ordered on ebay.com; they even sell ready-made kits for the beginning carver. Perhaps this is the easiest way to purchase materials and tools; from my own experience I know that it is quite difficult to find special rubber blocks or a thin breadboard knife in our stores.

So, I took the finished logo of my jewelry workshop as a basis.

Print the drawing in the desired size, I just drew mine again. I must say that in a fit of enthusiasm, I completely forgot that the template should be mirrored, so I cut out the inverted picture. In my case, no big deal, but if you need to make an inscription, remember this!
I tried it on so that everything would fit.

To transfer the outline, I used this method - I densely sketched the back side of the template with wax chalk, then traced the outline again with a ballpoint pen - this time on the block.

Even with a firm handle, the outline on the block will be barely visible

Therefore, once again we draw all the lines with a pen

A little advice - it is better to immediately draw the lines of the required thickness, and not leave them thin, as in the photo. It will be much easier to cut out later.
Actually, then the massacre begins. Of the entire set of wood cutters, it makes sense to use these:

semicircular and L-shaped. For very thin parts, I used a breadboard knife.

Carefully and slowly begin to remove excess rubber. I don’t know how to do this according to all the rules, so I relied on my own feelings and a moment of convenience. Don’t try to remove deep right away; it’s better to go in small movements and deepen gradually.

I went through very thin places with a breadboard knife. If you suddenly happened to brush off something unnecessary, for example, your hand slipped off and the cutter went across the line, it’s okay. First of all, think about maybe leaving it that way. There will still be errors when printing, and perhaps your mistake will not be noticeable. If the mistake is critical, arm yourself with rubber glue and simply glue a piece of gum where you need it.
There you go. Cutting out such a 5 by 5 cm picture took me about 40 minutes. But this was my first time, the second was much faster.

Test print - check what came out.

Fine-tune the details a little, and you can seal the bags!

Inspired by the success, I immediately made a stamp with calligraphy, although I didn’t intend to - before it seemed to me that it would be too difficult. But no, everything is possible and quite real!

And finally, some more stamps!

Thank you all for your attention and good luck in your work!

Seals are needed not only to certify official documents. Do-it-yourself stamps are especially relevant for children who love to draw and craftswomen who make antique artistic letters or simply do scrapbooking.

Today you will see three ways to make a seal and several more videos with new ideas.

The simplest and cheapest version of a home stamp is made from potatoes. The main advantage of this material is that it is very easy to cut any shape from it. The paint from such a seal is easily washed off after use, because potatoes do not absorb it. So how do you make a seal?

  1. Think about the shape of the desired print in advance.
  2. Cut one potato in half.
  3. Now you need to use a pencil to draw a figure on the cut and cut it out.
  4. Remove the pulp beyond the boundaries of the picture.
  5. If desired, you can cut out a handle in the potato stamp.

Wax or sealing wax seal

If you want to make a more complex seal, stylized as antique, then wax or sealing wax is perfect. Of course, it is more difficult to make than the previous one, but the result is worth it.

  • A piece of straight wood stick
  • Narrow tape
  • Picture printed on thick paper
  • Drying oil
  • Sandpaper
  • Pencil
  • Matches
  • collet knife
  • Vegetable oil
  • Wax candle/sealing wax
  • Rags
  • Brush
  • Cautery on wood
  • Napkins
  1. The first step is to sand the wooden stick. Particular attention should be paid to the part where the seal will be cut out. Now you need to carefully cut out the print image with a knife.
  2. Secure the cut out picture to the end of the stick with tape. Use a pencil to fill in the wood through the slits in the paper. Don’t forget that you need to attach the picture to the tree in a mirror image.
  3. Remove the glued paper. Using a special device, you need to burn symbols on the wood along pencil lines. Ideally, they should all be smooth and of the same depth.
  4. Cover the end of a wooden stick with drying oil and wipe it thoroughly with a rag. Now you need to leave the workpiece to dry for at least a day.

After drying, the print is completely ready. The impression can be made on paraffin, wax or sealing wax. Wax can be obtained from a candle. Simply light it and drip a little onto the desired spot. Before printing, dip the seal in vegetable oil and blot off any excess. When removing a stamp from wax or sealing wax, shake it slightly from side to side so as not to spoil it.

This type of homemade seal can be used not only as a stamp, but also as an original accessory.

  • Cotton buds
  • power unit
  • Masking tape
  • Grinders (angular, Dremel)
  • Table salt solution
  • Sharp knife
  • 200 and 600 grit sandpaper
  • File
  • Cotton buds
  1. The first step is to tighten the nut with pliers and gradually grind off the corners. Leave only one edge unprocessed. Don't forget to follow safety precautions.
  2. Now you need to narrow it and give it the shape of a ring. Maintain symmetry of the sides. Once you have tapered the ring to the extent you want, begin removing chamfers from the edges of the ring. After this, complete the form.
  3. Use a Dremel sander to remove the internal threads. This must be done evenly. Don't forget to maintain symmetry. Pay extra attention to the chamfers on the inside of the signet ring.
  4. A file will be needed to smooth out the grooves from the sanding machine. Bring the ring to perfect condition with sandpaper (first it is better to use 600 grit, then 200). Sanding paper will help achieve the best smoothness of the ring.
  5. Come up with a design for printing. These could be your initials.
  6. Draw the desired symbols on the ring, stick masking tape on the surface and cut them out with a sharp knife.
  7. Connect the positive wire of the power supply to the ring. Dip a cotton swab in the saline solution and attach the negative wire to the wet part. Then pass the resulting electrode over the ring several times in those places that need to be etched. After this, disconnect the wires and peel off the tape.
  8. Cover the ring with polyurethane varnish. The signet ring is ready!

The signet ring can be worn as a regular ring. If you want to use it to make an impression on paraffin, wax or sealing wax, then simply follow the technology described above.

As you have already noticed, all kinds of seals and stamps can be made from almost any material. If you are interested in new ideas or want to see the process of creating a stamp with your own hands visually, then below there is a selection of several videos on the topic.

Linocut or how to make a stamp with your own hands

Engraving is the real art of replicating an image. Stamps can also be called a kind of engraving in a minimal format. In this master class you will learn how to make a stamp with your own hands and feel like a real master engraver. This stamp is suitable for printing with acrylic, oil and printing ink.

An engraving cliché, which is correctly called a “board,” can be made of wood (woodcut), linoleum (linocut), metal (etching) and stone (lithography). It is best to start with linocut: linoleum is easy to cut and has no fibers, unlike wood.

Tools and materials for creating a stamp with your own hands

  • piece of economy class linoleum
  • stationery knife
  • wooden base (for example, a simple wooden cube)
  • PVA glue or any other
  • optional: you can use linoleum chisels (differ from chisels in size)

How to make a stamp with your own hands

You need to take the cheapest linoleum, smooth, without texture (or with minimal texture) and preferably dense. You can buy a piece of special artistic linoleum for linocuts at an art store. I like this one the most for its structure, but when I need to cut something in large quantities, I use the most ordinary one.

You need to apply a pattern to the linoleum. The easiest way is to redraw with a pencil or pen directly on the linoleum, in a mirror image. But, when it comes to accurately transferring the design, it is better to print the layout in the required size on a laser printer (an inkjet will not work) and transfer the image to the linoleum using an iron.

Attention! When you apply a drawing this way, you don’t need to mirror it!

We ironed it and see what happened.

Now let's cut it. Let's go along the contour of the ampersand with a stationery knife, and over large areas with pencil erasers, which you can do without if the work is small.

Advice: If the linoleum is too soft to cut, you can put it in the freezer for a while. Conversely, if the material is difficult to cut, it is better to heat it on a radiator or in warm water.

We cut out the letter and remove the excess material around the edges. We try to level the surface in large areas.

Now you need to make a test print and trim off any flaws, if any. I also lightly go over the fine-grained sandpaper to even out the surface of the stamp.

Can be printed with regular water-based ink or acrylic. The main thing is that immediately after printing, clean the stamp from any remaining paint in warm water (if oil, then with solvent or turpentine) and leave it to dry naturally (not on a battery!).

With this simple method you can create a completely unique design.

But it’s worth remembering: the larger the board, the harder you need to press so that the material absorbs the paint. Sometimes this can no longer be done by hand. For example, the A3 size print on a T-shirt shown in the photo was already printed using an etching press. Small stamps can be tapped with a wooden hammer to obtain a perfect impression.

HOW TO PRINT AT HOME

We continue our humorous forensic circle “Erase the seal, put a new one and become a millionaire, or how to fake a seal at home”... So, in the previous article we looked at how we can remove works of bureaucratic art that we don’t need from a snow-white sheet (see informative in In this regard, article HOW TO REMOVE UNNEEDED RECORDS OR STAMPS FROM PAPER). Let me remind the respected reader, as well as representatives of law enforcement agencies who have suddenly shown interest in this article, that the author of these lines, like any artist of pen and penknife, is not responsible for the information provided, which is most likely unreliable, and most importantly, is not responsible for it usage. In addition, it is my civic duty to remind my fellow citizens that forgery of seals and stamps falls under Article 327 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation and is punishable by up to 4 years in prison. Having thus fulfilled our civic duty, we also note that like any goddess, the Goddess of Justice Themis is portrayed as blind for a reason, so forging seals and stamps is not the most interesting activity for her, unless you are going to take a million from a bank using false documents... However, even in this case, Lady Themis will most likely remain blind.

Leaving aside the legal aspects, it can be noted that historically, counterfeiting of seals and stamps has existed for as long as their production, i.e. since the times of Ancient Babylon and Egypt. For every bureaucratic poison there is a similar antidote. If we look at our immediate past, stamps were also forged in the Soviet Union. Moreover, these specialists were highly valued, since forging and cutting out a seal on the heel of a shoe or on an elastic band was a real work of art and required not only a lot of time, but also a certain skill. Well, now, thanks to technological progress, it has become much easier to forge a seal: there are many programs and more, thanks to which a mere mortal can become a real pro in forging seals. In this article we will look at various historical options for forging a seal at home, which were used in antiquity: from quite exotic, but effective - such as forging a seal with an egg, to the most realistic and practical. Naturally, these methods are not relevant now and cannot be used.

Thanks to progress, there are now a large number of computer programs with which you can easily fake a stamp or seal. However, at the dawn of history, when the Sun was just rising, one of the simplest and most used computer programs in this regard was the Stamp program. Type the phrase “download the Stamp program for free” into a search engine and you will find a bunch of sites where you can download it. However, I’ll warn you right away: the Stamp program is not a panacea for all stamps. The program is quite primitive, frankly speaking, and those who have used it, I think, do not feel excessive enthusiasm when it is mentioned. Well, since the Stamp program does not satisfy us, you can always use Photoshop or Corel. These programs allow you not only to process images and remove unnecessary print elements, but also to create your own. Numerous lessons on how to do this are waiting for you on the vast expanses of the Internet. May Gosha and Yasha be with you... Well, after you have realized your creative potential, all you need to print a seal or stamp is a string ink printer. With it you can print almost any stamp in any color.

Regardless of whether you are planning to decorate greeting cards, envelopes or invitations, you can use any paper material with the help of the made stamp. In this article we will show you some simple ideas on how to make your own stamp! And also how to make small stamps with your children. The Handshaker mobile application gives you a great opportunity to order various services, for example, a good repairman, translator, realtor and other qualifications. Install the application and use it.

Stamp from scrap materials

Do you also collect wine corks, just in case, so to speak? So this case has come! And you can use a piece of wood or plastic as a stamp design. In general, from what is at hand. Or purchase these figures at any office supply store.

These stamps will decorate any card!

Glue the piece of wood onto the end of the cork with strong super glue! Remember that even the simplest handmade items are thousands of times better than any purchased trinket!

Stamp made of stones and foam rubber

A stamp made from stones is not so common, but it is quite quick to make, and it looks interesting! You will need small foam templates and stones collected from the street. Place the stickers on the rocks, color with a stamp pad, and start stamping!

We say thank you with a stamp!

A stamp with text is great! Take a look at our thank you stamp idea! It's perfect for gifts or just to show your gratitude! Materials we will need:

  • Rubber for threading
  • Pencil
  • Eraser
  • White list
  • Stamp pad
  • Wooden cubes
  • Super glue

Make a similar stamp with your own hands

First, write the required inscription on a white sheet of paper with a pencil. Then place the paper face down on the eraser and trace with a pencil. Carefully remove the sheet, repeat if necessary. Now we begin to carve the inscription! First the corners, then the font. When the carving is finished, we clean the dust and glue our rubber onto the wooden cube. And finally, wet it in the stamp pad and start stamping!

A small block and simple rubber!

Something similar was presented above. Only instead of wood, stone was used.

Eraser stamp

Potato stamp

A great idea for those who just decided to stamp with their child! We will need potatoes and acrylic paints!
