As a student, I played on the football team at the University of California, Berkeley. I once suffered an injury that practically ended my football career. One guy knocked me down while I was running after the ball and I fell on my tailbone.

Acupuncture

Qigong is acupuncture without needles! It activates the flow of chi in your body and awakens natural healing powers. Qigong and acupuncture use the same meridian map. But with the practice of qigong, life force energy stimulates points in the meridians and heals the body without the need to pierce the skin. In qigong, tonic acupressure replaces acupuncture.

Yoga

The short, simple movements of Qigong harmonize the mind and body in the same way that yoga does. Taichi

I went to the East in search of secret knowledge, which is behind this miracle of vitality


Immediately after university, I went to Asia and traveled a lot, learning ancient practices from famous masters. This journey was difficult, but I had an incredible experience:

  • Studied how the body works and pain points in China and Japan.
  • Trained with tai chi masters from Hong Kong and Indonesia.
  • Overcame a two-week silent retreat with nine hours of meditation every day (and even meditated in pitch darkness for ten days).
  • I studied qigong for 4 years while traveling around Thailand. On my third trip, I had to take a grueling test to demonstrate my skill and knowledge of the practices and principles of this teaching.
  • I studied Traditional Chinese Medicine for 4 years and am now a certified Doctor of Chinese Medicine and Acupuncturist.
  • I went through a lot of intensive yoga classes, stood on my head, and could practically throw my ankles behind my ears (football players have very tight muscles in their thighs).

A weaker man cried like a child

Mastering ancient disciplines through traditional practice played an important role in my education, but it was a very grueling experience. I also had bad days when playing football. But this training pushed me beyond limits that I thought were impossible. It took me years of intense training until I received a worthy reward.

Even my master was skeptical that a white guy from California could master such inner arts.

He nitpicked my every move until it was perfect. I had a hard time keeping my balance as he pushed me with all his might. He adjusted every detail before saying, “You just need to do this exercise a thousand times better!” And that meant that I didn’t succeed at all. I did the exercise a thousand times and then a thousand more until I perfected it.

Thinking about the same thing for 20 minutes is quite difficult, not to mention nine hours of meditation without food, water and sleep. Just imagine the willpower it takes to meditate in pitch darkness for 10 days, a feat that seems like a cruel punishment.

A weaker man would have cried like a child.

If anyone had told me that this traditional form of training would become popular in the West, I would never have believed it.

No one I know finds time to study for 9 hours straight. They can't find 30 minutes for this. And even if they can, only half will cope with the language barrier. And those who remain are unlikely to be able to survive to the very end of this difficult educational path.

If this does not discourage them from exercising, then the training will become too difficult to fit into their modern life. With more pressing matters, work and family commitments, they need to be superhuman to stick to this form of training on a regular basis. Luckily my journey ended before my twins were born!

My main discovery: Chi energy flows faster and deeper when your mind and body are relaxed.

The point is not to stretch the hardest, feel the most pain, or repeat every movement perfectly. In fact, the main goal of all ancient practices is to get your chi circulating throughout your body so that it heals naturally.

I kept the healing properties of qi in mind first when I changed the traditional approach to learning qigong. You feel all the movements instinctively, you repeat them without making much effort, you are very comfortable... it’s hard to believe that you are even practicing.

Here's what happens when you relax during my classes:

Your body moves smoothly and calmly. Your mind returns to the present moment. Body and mind are in harmony. Hidden chi energy awakens and activates your natural healing powers. Qi flows easily...

Therefore, I decided to make everything about qigong practice very clear. I have discarded mysterious dogmas, complex movements and abstract theories. I then got to the core of each discipline and created my own style of modern qigong that is easier to learn and use. In fact, you will be practicing the best elements of Qigong without even knowing it. The best part is that they are fun to make and you don't need any special equipment.

My students called my approach “Li Holden's Qigong for Everyone.” This name has stuck since then. These are the easiest energy exercises that exist in the modern world.

There is no violence in my style of qigong, just slow and gentle movements. It doesn't matter what physical shape you are in now. It doesn't matter whether you are a man or a woman.
