Diesel engine in the UAZ Patriot. Replacing the UAZ Patriot engine with an imported one. UAZ "Patriot" with a diesel engine

Since 2008, the UAZ company has been supplying the Patriot SUV to the Russian market in two versions with gasoline and diesel engines. Initially, the manufacturer used an engine borrowed from the Fiat Ducato model. Later, the ZMZ-51432 Euro-4 class engine began to be installed on the UAZ Patriot. The assembly of the model in this design has been completed by this time. But the manufacturer promises to soon resume production of a model with a diesel engine.

Features of the diesel modification

Externally, the diesel UAZ Patriot is no different from an SUV, which is equipped with a gasoline power plant. The difference between these two versions of the same model is technical features motors.
The working volume of the diesel engine for the UAZ Patriot is 2.3 liters and 2.2 liters for the Italian and Russian units, respectively. In the first case, the maximum power is 116 hp, in the second – 116 hp. The Iveco F1A reaches a maximum torque of 270 N/m at 2500 rpm, and the Zavolzhsky engine - at 1800-2800 rpm.
The average fuel consumption of a diesel unit is about 9 liters for every 100 kilometers, while a gasoline engine consumes about 13 liters. Among the others important features diesel should be highlighted:

  1. Relatively heavy weight, equal to 225 kg. The weight of a diesel engine, regardless of its brand (IVECO or ZMZ), is higher than that of a gasoline unit.
  2. There is an exhaust gas recirculation system.
  3. Turbocharging is provided. It provides accelerated removal of exhaust gases.
  4. The design is complemented by a special pump responsible for pumping fuel.
  5. Availability of direct fuel injection system.
  6. Cooling system available closed design. In this case, the liquid moves in it due to forced circulation.

Due to the large weight of the power plant, the manufacturer had to install reinforced springs in the front of the SUV.
The UAZ company developed a diesel modification of the Patriot with the expectation that future owners will be able to use the car both when driving in urban conditions and off-road. The model is quite economical and provides an adequate level of safety.
UAZ Patriot with a diesel engine is equipped with a Korean-made manual transmission.

Difference between petrol and diesel versions

There is no particular difference between the gasoline and diesel versions of the Patriot. The power of the first engine is 128 hp. with a volume of 2.7 liters. Despite the fact that the diesel engine has slightly less output, this is offset by the increased torque. If for a gasoline engine the maximum value of this indicator reaches 217 N/m, then for a heavy fuel unit it is equal to 270 N/m. This difference becomes especially noticeable when the car goes off-road.
You should also pay attention to the fact that the gasoline unit consumes about 12 liters of fuel. As a result, the difference in cost between both models is eliminated within 2-3 years after active use of the car.
In addition, due to the operation of the gasoline engine, the SUV can reach a speed of 150 km/h. For the diesel version, this figure is limited to 135 km/h. Due to the fact that both engines have structural differences from each other, the engine compartment of each version is designed differently.
The operation of diesel units requires compliance special rules. This is explained by the fact that this type of fuel is highly sensitive to temperature indicators. To avoid unexpected breakdowns of the power unit and increase its service life, you must do the following:

  1. At subzero temperatures, the engine cannot be started immediately. Instead, turn the ignition key to the first position and wait about three minutes. At the end of the specified period, you can start the engine. This procedure is performed to warm up the fuel filter.
  2. The car must undergo a preliminary run-in. During the first 2.5 thousand kilometers, it is recommended to operate the SUV in gentle modes, reducing the load level to a minimum.
  3. Use only high-quality diesel fuel of at least Euro-3 class.

Traditionally, diesel engines last longer than gasoline engines. However, during extreme driving, the service life of the power plant is sharply reduced due to frequent overheating.

Diesel engine maintenance

Any engine, including diesel modifications, requires timely maintenance. This procedure, first of all, involves changing the oil every 8 thousand kilometers. This action helps prevent aging of the power plant design. To preserve the integrity of the internal elements of the diesel engine in the UAZ Patriot, it is recommended to use the same brand of oil.
Another important nuance, which should also be paid attention to regularly, is to replace the timing belt in a timely manner. This procedure is recommended to be performed after 60 thousand kilometers. Failure to comply with this recommendation increases the likelihood of unexpected timing belt breakage, which will entail the need to replace the cylinder head, camshaft and rocker arm.
Every 8 thousand kilometers you need to replace the fuel filter. And if low quality fuel is used, then this procedure is recommended to be carried out more often.
Over time, sediment appears in the fuel tanks (the Patriot uses 2 containers with a volume of 40 liters). To avoid clogging of the diesel engine, they need to be washed every two years.

Improved engine performance

The design features of the diesel engine installed on the UAZ Patriot make it possible to improve its initial characteristics. Chip tuning of this engine involves the following procedures:

  1. Modernization of the engine control program. Thanks to this procedure, it is possible to achieve improved cold starts, idle modes, and also increase the performance of the power unit.
  2. Installation of an additional turbine. It increases the overall engine power. This procedure involves additional modification of the standard software.

Otherwise, chip tuning of the UAZ Patriot consists of carrying out activities that affect other components of the SUV design. In particular, the car doors are complemented various materials, which increase noise, heat and sound insulation inside the cabin.

Advantages of diesel modification

Most owners diesel UAZ Patriot is drawn to the following advantages that this model has:

    1. High cross-country ability.

The diesel modification of the SUV successfully overcomes clay and sand.

    1. Spacious interior and trunk.

The car can easily accommodate up to 5 people.

  1. Low maintenance costs.

During the first 50 thousand kilometers you only have to regularly change the main Consumables such as oil and fuel filters, oils.

Disadvantages of diesel modification

In 2013, UAZ released a restyled version of the diesel Patriot, in which many of the shortcomings were corrected. Thus, the manufacturer has eliminated the following problems:

  1. Frequent timing break. This was due to the use of low-quality components.
  2. Frequent failure of the lubrication system pump. Now this element is located in a new location, thereby reducing the load on it.
  3. The valves were replaced with more durable ones.
  4. The design and arrangement of elements of the high-pressure pipeline have been redesigned.
  5. The fuel pump drive belt has been replaced with a higher quality one.

Despite the fact that the manufacturer regularly upgrades the diesel SUV, it was unable to completely eliminate all the shortcomings that this model has.

  1. Poor build.
Many car owners have noticed this drawback. In particular, they noted the presence of strong vibration in the cabin.
  2. Poor performance in cold weather.
This mainly applies to modifications equipped with an engine Russian production. When starting a diesel engine in cold weather, the battery is consumed very quickly.
  3. Weak air conditioning.
The air conditioning on the Patriot is one of the most problematic areas. It regularly breaks down and does not always achieve the required level of air temperature in the cabin.
  4. Availability of two fuel tanks.

Two fuel tanks are both an advantage and a disadvantage of an SUV, since you can fill quite a lot of fuel at a time, but for this you will have to maneuver at the gas station, because the hatches are located on different sides.
UAZ Patriot with a diesel engine is more expensive than its gasoline version. However, in comparison with foreign analogues, the Russian SUV wins in terms of price and off-road performance.

UAZ Patriot is a popular car in Russia, and, undoubtedly, it is worthy of everyone's attention. The car has many positive qualities, but with a gasoline engine, an SUV does not attract users as much as with a diesel engine - the fuel consumption of a gasoline engine is quite high, and it lacks torque.

Although there are different reviews from owners about the Russian SUV UAZ Patriot with a diesel engine, and they are quite contradictory. How successful this UAZ turned out can be judged by the numerous responses and reviews that car owners leave on the Internet on various resources and forums.

UAZ Patriot 2015 diesel owner reviews

The UAZ Patriot has been produced since 2005, and throughout its existence, diesel engines from two manufacturers have been installed:

  • Zavolzhsky Motor Plant;
  • Italian automaker Iveco.

The first Trans-Volga engines ZMZ-514, which were originally equipped with the UAZ Patriot, are considered not the most successful, and car owners have many complaints about them. Then, in 2008, the Iveco F1A turbodiesel power unit was “introduced” into the car; it was already more reliable, but for a number of reasons the Ulyanovsk residents were forced to abandon it in 2012, and the diesel relay race returned to the Volga region. What reviews did the owners of the UAZ Patriot with a diesel engine leave in 2015, what do they say about this car?

Opinion No. 1

The UAZ Patriot with the Iveco engine is a very good option, the reliable engine pulls like a steam locomotive, and at the same time consumes 10 liters of diesel fuel per 100 kilometers. There is something to compare with here - the gasoline Patriot consumes an awful lot of fuel, and around the city in traffic jams it easily “eats” 20 liters of the “ninety-second”.

When passing through clay and sand, the diesel engine also benefits - its torque is enough to crawl the car out of any mud, and it drives off-road slowly but confidently. And, of course, it’s a pity that at the end of 2011 the Iveco F1A was discontinued - even with the most sophisticated engine from the Zavolzhsky Motor Plant, it’s not worth comparing; in Russia, apparently, they will never learn how to make diesel engines.

Opinion No. 2

A car is needed to travel from city to village; the car has an Iveco engine. Over the three years of operation (from 2012 to 2015), the car did not fail even once; I had to change something mainly only in small things (light bulbs, consumables). At 20 thousand km, bearing pins were installed, the main costs are maintenance and car washing. The SUV has Webasto, so the car starts in any frost. The car is dynamic, maintains a cruising speed of 110 km/h confidently, and on the highway “eats” 8 liters per “hundred”.

The car is comfortable, large, with a sunroof, and can accommodate up to 9 people in the cabin. The seating position in the UAZ Patriot is high, the cross-country ability is excellent, and there is a feeling of reliability of this car. The steering is at the same level - the UAZ does not wander on the road, and it is good to control both on the highway and in the city. From weak points You can note the insufficiently good air conditioning (it is not enough in the heat), poor sound from the speakers. But the stove copes with frosts with a bang, and the interior of the car in winter is “Tashkent”. Maybe I was just lucky, but the car is not falling apart. There is already some rust on the body in some places, but this is not critical.

The engine must be monitored and everything must be done according to the instructions. Iveco does not have a cooling cooler, and after the engine has been running for a long time at high speeds, it cannot be turned off immediately - you need to wait a few minutes. If all operating conditions are met, the motor will last a long time.

Opinion No. 3

I'm happy with the car, but the assembly is terrible, and the service is downright bad. There is no need to lock the UAZ; it is unlikely to be stolen. Diesel fuel consumption is about 9 liters, the all-terrain vehicle will travel wherever the driver wishes. Fuel tanks on a car are too small for such a tank, two containers of 35 liters are not enough for a “tank”. It’s inconvenient to refuel with two tanks; you have to turn around - drive up from one side or the other of the gas station.

Diesel is perfect for off-road use; it has excellent traction. Over 30 thousand km, “Patrick” broke down only in small things (outer door handles failed, the speedometer did not work), the stove heats well, which is unusual for a diesel engine.

Opinion No. 4

We bought a UAZ 2007 with a ZMZ-514 engine, the car was completely disappointing. The car is constantly falling apart - something definitely needs to be repaired. Over the course of 50 thousand kilometers, I had to change the oil pump drive three times, the repairs are very expensive, and you still have to run around to find spare parts for the engine. The engine was put into production, but no care was taken at all about its reliability. Never buy a Patriot with a Trans-Volga engine - you will have problems with it. In addition, in cold weather the engine does not want to start at all - already at -15ºC you can only drain the battery.

The ZMZ-51432 diesel engine appeared on the UAZ Patriot at the end of 2011, and went into production at the beginning of 2012. Unlike its predecessor ZMZ-514, the new power unit acquired a Common Rail fuel injection system and began to comply with Euro-4 environmental standards. Has the Trans-Volga engine become better in quality, since car owners were very dissatisfied with the 514 engine?

Review #1

The car as a whole is not bad, but the assembly... UAZ Patriot from the end of 2011, in the third year of operation, red spots appeared on the body. Everything in the cabin rattles, problems with wiring arise constantly. The radiator leaked, and the turbine “flew” at 50 thousand km. The gearbox seal leaks regularly and often has to be replaced. Everything in the cabin rattles, water appears in the trunk after rain. Among the advantages, I would like to note the spacious interior and good cross-country ability, and the “Patriot” costs reasonable money. You have to repair it, but travel, since there is no alternative - all foreign “classmates” are significantly more expensive. As a friend said, “we cry, but we take it.”

Review #2

The Patra's interior is very roomy, even with a height of 190 cm, it is quite comfortable to sit behind the wheel. The machine is well suited for fishing, easily moves through the forest, taking any cargo with you on the road is not a problem. The cross-country ability is excellent, but this does not mean that an SUV with a diesel engine needs to go into a swamp - any all-terrain vehicle can get stuck in impassable mud.

It seems that the quality of the Patriots has improved - the first UAZs were completely raw. The cooling pipes are constantly leaking, it is unclear why they cannot be made from normal materials. In general, there are still a lot of small problems; the car still needs work and work.

Review #3

“Patriot” 2014, the cross-country ability is superb - it overcomes meter-long snowdrifts even without engaging a downshift. The engine has enough power and the car consumes an average of 10 liters. The pre-heater is missing (it will need to be installed), and it would be nice to install larger tires on the car - then the UAZ will not need roads at all. The 2.2 liter diesel engine is not critical when it comes to fuel; it digests our Russian diesel fuel well.

What can you say about the disadvantages? Noise insulation is weak, we can consider it non-existent. On steep ascents and descents, the UAZ “sits” on the front axle, the front axle gearbox is located low. The gears at the gearbox are engaged harshly, the doors are heavy, the Patriot is clearly not a woman’s car, but for real Russian men it’s just the thing.

UAZ Patriot 2016 diesel: reviews

In 2015, the UAZ Patriot was restyled, and it became even prettier in appearance. The basic Classic version of this car is equipped with petrol new engine Zavolzhsky Motor Plant with a volume of 2.7 liters, but in the maximum configuration there is a turbodiesel engine ZMZ-51432 (2.2 liters). External changes primarily affected the optics and radiator grille; the maximum configuration includes LEDs in the headlights; this version also features R18 wheels on alloy wheels. The restyled car has large side mirrors that fold, and the interior now has a multimedia system with a seven-inch screen. How does the updated diesel SUV perform on the road, what do car owners say about it?

Reviews about the UAZ Patriot (diesel) in 2016 are mostly positive; it is noted that the build quality has improved. However, the opinion of the car owners has not completely changed; according to their responses, the Russian SUV is the same “Pepelats”, which definitely needs to be completed with your own hands, especially on small things.

In general, the car of the 2015 model turned out to be decent, but the main problem of the UAZ remains - the low quality of the parts, and it’s as if the car wasn’t assembled by hand. Unfortunately, car owners note that even the Chinese have learned to do better, although Chinese cars are now more expensive. The main shortcomings of the UAZ Patriot model 2015:

  • welding is no different high level– sometimes body elements are only slightly tacked at the seams;
  • it seems that the body is not primed at the factory - paintwork rather weak, and some places are not painted at all;
  • Service from official dealers is expensive, but very poor quality.

As for the ZMZ-51432 diesel engine itself, there are no particular complaints about it yet. Car owners note that, in comparison with the Iveco F1A, the ZMZ pulls worse at the bottom and does not drive uphill as vigorously. A diesel engine with a Common Rail fuel system is very critical of diesel fuel, and you cannot refuel anywhere with this engine; at a minimum, the injectors will fail. First of all, when refueling with bad fuel, the Check Engine lamp lights up on the instrument panel, signaling a malfunction in the engine electronics. But the advantage of the Zavolzhsky motor is that it works quite quietly and almost without vibration.

In September 2017, in Moscow, at the Crocus Expo exhibition complex, the International Exhibition of Commercial Vehicles Comtrans 2017 was held. At this exhibition, UAZ showed a new commercial vehicle, the UAZ-Profi, which was equipped with a new ZMZ-PRO engine.

New engine, this is naturally good (hopefully) reworked old ZMZ-409

After processing we got characteristics:
Power 149.6 hp at 5000 rpm
Torque 235.4 Nm at 2650 rpm
Compression ratio 9.8

At this compression ratio, it is supposed to be filled with 95-octane gasoline. Which is not very good for commercial vehicles. But there was a modification Gas-Petrol.
This engine is abbreviated ZMZ-409052. The equipment is Italian, the brains are accordingly tuned to dual-fuel mode.

The single-row chain that broke on the Patriots was finally replaced with a double-row. ( who remembers, the double-row chain was on EURO-3, they returned so to speak)
The tension shoes went away and the sprockets appeared again.
Hydraulic tensioners INA, OTHERWISE it will break this chain too :)

The rollers are also imported

The pan gasket is now metal. This should prevent oil leakage.

New valves.

The valve timing has changed.

The gearbox was “adapted” to the new engine. But what exactly has changed is still unknown.

We established a 2 year or 200 thousand km warranty on the engine
Wait and see!

The UAZ Patriot SUV is a car for drivers who prefer to travel not only on asphalt, but also on rough terrain. Engineers at the Ulyanovsk plant created a real steel horse designed for off-road use. Sitting in the cabin you can feel absolutely comfortable, but over time you realize that something is missing. This something is not just about changing appearance car, but also engine modernization. If chip tuning is a passive form of improving technical performance, then replacing the engine is a significant way to modernize a car. It is the replacement of the ZMZ-409 brand internal combustion engine installed on an SUV that will be discussed today. Let's consider what types of domestic and foreign-made engines can be installed on the UAZ Patriot.

What kind of foreign engine can be installed on a domestically produced SUV to improve the technical performance of the Patriot? The first option is to install a motor from a Toyota Surf car. In addition, to install a new engine you do not need to have engineering knowledge; for this you simply need to purchase a unit. There are some features for installing a Toyota Surf engine in a UAZ. Let's look at them briefly:

  1. The standard motor mounts need to be moved forward a few centimeters and the angle of inclination changed. The angle of inclination is needed in order to place pillows that eliminate vibrations.
  2. Before installing the engine, it is also necessary to remove the power steering bracket. It will rest against the timing belt, so problems may arise.
  3. The radiator remains stock. It does its job well. It can fully provide cooling for a Japanese-made engine.
  4. The air filter is located on the left side of the engine compartment.
  5. It is also recommended to replace the exhaust system, that is, use the Japanese version, which is more reliable.

After replacement, you can find the following improvements:

  • Fuel consumption will be reduced.
  • Problems with the transfer case and gearbox disappear.
  • Dynamics improves.

Whose else engine can be installed on a UAZ Patriot? In addition to the Toyota engine, you can also install a domestic engine from the GAZ-53, better known as V8, on the car.

V8 engine

The famous GAZ-53 truck with a V8 engine, which means it has eight cylinders, is still used today. The car has an excellent engine that can be installed on the UAZ Patriot. The V8 engine from the GAZ-53 has a power of 115 hp. and considerable torque. In addition, this unit perfectly replaces the standard SUV engine.

To realize your dream of installing a V8 engine in your car, you need to replace the exhaust system, transfer case and gearbox. After installing the V8 engine, you can feel the power of the SUV, which is ready to overcome difficult off-road conditions and obstacles, and to pass through swamps, ponds and snowdrifts. With the V8 engine from the GAZ-53, the SUV is not afraid of high-speed driving on the highway. Below is a video showing a UAZ Patriot with a V8 engine from GAZon-53 installed.

After watching the video, you understand what an 8-cylinder engine from a Soviet mid-ton truck is. With the new V8 engine, the Patra is much louder, which is exactly how it should be. Domestic-made engines are famous for their endurance and efficiency, so by installing such a V8 engine, you can forget about the standard engine forever, since you will never want to return it.

The GAZon engine is more powerful than the standard one from the Patriot. But its main advantage is reliability, which cannot be said about modern engines.

Motor from Nissan

If you have the desire and finances, then you can install a more powerful engine on the UAZ Patriot than the GAZ-53. This is a Nissan Kid 32 engine from the Galagrin company. The power of such a unit is approximately 150 hp, which is more than necessary. It should be noted that this unit from the Nissan Kid 32 is diesel. 150 hp also suitable for electronically controlled units. With manual control, power drops to 135 horsepower.

Of course, no one says that the Nissan Kid 32 engine is installed new; you can install a contract one. The reason is that new units must comply with the Euro 4 environmental standard.

After replacing the standard engine with a Nissan Kid 32, the UAZ Patriot SUV is characterized by the following parameters:

  1. Increased power. Now an SUV can not only get out of any trouble on its own, but also pull out its own kind.
  2. Consumption increases, which is justified by an increase in power.

To install the Nissan Kid 32 engine on the Patriot, the latter will require a suspension lift.

Cummins

In conclusion, I would like to note the advantages of the Cummins engine, which are also excellent for a new generation SUV. First of all, it should be noted that Cummins is exclusively engaged in the production of diesel engines, famous for their durability, efficiency and safety.

Cummins engines are installed in Gazelle cars. Cummins is suitable for those types of vehicles that are designed for off-road and asphalt conditions. Therefore, if you often drive your car on mixed types of roads, then Cummins will be the optimal solution.

To summarize, it should be noted that today we have looked superficially at the types of engines, both domestic and imported, that you can install on your SUV. In many cases, of course, modifications are required, but still, replacement is done at home. It’s up to you to decide which motor to install: imported or domestic, the main thing is that the chosen option fully satisfies your needs.

You can check your BMR and if you need to reduce it!

The main unit of any machine is the engine. Pickups, sedans, convertibles, buses, and tractors simply will not be able to perform their direct duties without an engine. That is why great attention is paid to the engine when choosing a car, its maintenance and operation. In addition, this is one of the most expensive units. Replacing or repairing it almost always costs a lot of money and requires a lot of effort and time.

For an SUV, the reliability and technical condition of the engine is even more important. After all, an engine breakdown in a forest, field, far from roads and people can end really sadly.

A little history

The first UAZ "Patriot" came off the assembly line in 2005. It was truly a new UAZ, incredibly modern compared to previous models. The manufacturer positioned this car as a safe, reliable and powerful SUV. The design was good for 2005. And if you look at the previous models, the design seemed perfect.

In October 2014, the new Patriot was introduced. It received a rear stabilizer, a touch screen, glued glass, a more attractive appearance, and the bumpers were now attached to the body. However, there were major security problems. Therefore, already in October 2016, UAZ showed another update. “Patriot” received front airbags and an even more attractive and modern appearance. The overall safety and sound insulation of the SUV has been improved. Finally, the car got rid of two fuel tanks, which so tormented all owners.

What engines are there on the UAZ Patriot?

Throughout the first generation, a permanent 2.7-liter gasoline engine with a capacity of 128 horsepower was installed. In 2008, engineers also added a 2.3-liter diesel engine, the output of which was 114 horsepower. It was an Iveco F1A engine. It was installed during the production of the Fiat Ducato car in Russia. This motor was later removed. Since 2012, they began to install the ZMZ-514 turbodiesel. Because of this, the engine displacement decreased by 65 cubic meters. Thus, the improved engine of the UAZ Patriot received the index 2.2d. The same engine remained after the update in 2014. But the gasoline engine has undergone some changes. As a result, its official power became 135 hp. With. On the newest UAZ "Patriot" engines running on heavy fuel can no longer be found. Diesel was abandoned. The gasoline engine was left unchanged.

Diesel engine

The Iveco F1A turbodiesel, although expensive, was a truly reliable engine. In addition, it made it possible to reduce the Patriot’s appetite to twelve liters per hundred kilometers in the city. A calm driver could get ten liters of fuel in the city. Not bad for a frame SUV. Moreover, despite the lower power compared to a gasoline engine, it made the car much faster. The gasoline version was lost after 80 km/h, while the turbodiesel easily accelerated to 120 km/h. This is thanks to the torque, which was equal to 270 N*m, versus 218 “gasoline Newtons”. The diesel also performed much better off-road. It helped get rid of turbo lag. There was always enough traction.

In 2012, the UAZ Patriot diesel engine from an Italian manufacturer was replaced. Replaced with the infamous "ZMZ-514". It was developed back in the 90s. Had many engineering errors that affected reliability. Cracks in the cylinder head, valve disc caught in the cylinder, pipeline break high pressure and many other problems are still in the nightmares of owners of diesel Patriots.

According to engineers, most of the problems have been resolved. They changed suppliers of low-quality components, modified the engine together with Bosch. This is how the reliable diesel engine of the UAZ “Patriot” turned out. Reviews confirm this. Since mid-2012, when they began installing the Common rail system, the engine has not caused any particular problems for owners. Moreover, in terms of driving qualities and characteristics, the UAZ Patriot engine on the ZMZ diesel engine almost completely coincided with the turbodiesel from Fiat Ducato. Despite this, the manufacturer abandoned the diesel engine from October 2016. Perhaps there was low demand, or maybe this engine was too expensive for the plant, but it is no longer possible to buy a new diesel Patriot.

Gasoline engine

The first generation of the Patriot received a 2.7-liter gasoline engine. Its power was 128 forces. After the 2014 update, the official power increased to 135 horsepower, and the maximum torque decreased by one N*m, from 218 to 17 N*m. However, when tested on a dyno, the 2015 factory cars produced over 140 horsepower. UAZ inherited this engine from the 24 Volga, albeit with some changes. And in the Volga the declared engine power was 150 horses.

A car with this engine has always been cheaper in the showroom and on the used car market. The advantages include the relative reliability of the power plant. The engine in the UAZ Patriot has good maintainability, and spare parts for it cost almost nothing. This has always attracted people who choose a Russian SUV, because repairing a diesel engine is many times more expensive. But you definitely won’t save on gasoline. Less than 15 liters per hundred in the city is simply unrealistic for a gasoline Patriot. If you stand in traffic jams and try to actively accelerate, then a consumption of 20-22 liters per hundred kilometers is guaranteed. And if you consider that a car with this engine simply does not move (acceleration to 100 km/h is 19 seconds), then you will have to turn this engine.

Gasoline engine problems

The childish appetite of the 2.7-liter UAZ Patriot engine is not its only problem. A broken chain has plagued many SUV owners. In 2017, the manufacturer changed the supplier. It remains to be seen whether this will solve the problem.

Conclusion

Which perfect engine for "Patriot"? Diesel from Iveco. It runs 500,000 kilometers without any problems. Repairs are cheaper than ZMZ diesel engines. Buy new car? There is simply no choice. The gasoline engine is very reliable, you just have to watch the chain.
