Decoration of flower beds near the house. A beautiful cottage and luxurious flower beds near the house. Vertical gardening on trellises

Bright and fragrant flower beds can decorate any area. Every housewife should know how to design flower beds and create beautiful flower beds with her own hands.

Peculiarities

In Russia, dacha culture is actively thriving. Many people spend weekends and vacations in suburban areas. In your garden, you can grow not only vegetables, but also realize your flower ideas. Every housewife wants to make her small natural island not only functional, but also beautiful. Designers offer numerous ideas that differ in style, design materials and color combinations.

A well-designed flower bed can bring aesthetic pleasure to every person.

To make a flower garden correctly, you should study the main features of flower bed design:

  • After planting the seeds in the ground, they will need constant care. Before creating a flowerbed, you should think about its shape and design, come up with the type of composition fencing and color;
  • Before work, you need to decide on your desires. So that the flowers do not look chaotic and do not resemble a colorful blanket, think over the design of the flower garden, select plant varieties;
  • Vegetation should be selected according to the height and size of the bushes, as well as the degree of growth. If you neglect this rule, you will need a transplant next year;

  • All flowers must be combined in color scheme. This does not mean that the garden should be monochromatic, just that you should not use more than three main tones in one planting. You can dilute flower beds with white, shades of green, or different variations of the basic tone of the vegetation. By following this rule, you will make your garden harmonious;
  • Before planting seeds, you should familiarize yourself with the characteristics of the plants. Study their growth rate, future size, external characteristics and flowering period. Such information will help you decide on the future composition and create original flower beds on your site;
  • Planting flowers should be free. There is no need to crowd all the plants at one point. This will lead to an incomprehensible design that will ruin the entire composition;
  • Flowerbeds need to be looked after. Trim plants and add fertilizer to the soil.

Having studied the features of flower beds, you will feel more confident and will be able to choose the most suitable option for your dacha.

Each flowerbed has its own nuances, which include the peculiarities of watering, fastening and arrangement of vegetation.

Kinds

The flower beds on your site should have an attractive appearance throughout the entire summer season, so choose vegetation that is characterized by long-term flowering. Also, flowers should retain their decorative qualities even after flowering. A flowerbed can act as an independent figure in landscaping or be combined with more complex flower bed compositions.

Before arranging a flower garden, you should decide on the types of flower beds that exist in the design. Each type has its own characteristics, shape and location on the site.

Regular

This is an ordinary flowerbed in which you can grow annual or perennial flowers. Since each flower has its own characteristics, which include the watering system and fertilizing, such a flower garden is very difficult to care for. When choosing this model, you should prepare for constant financial investments. The very procedure of creating a flower garden, as well as the final result of the efforts, can bring real joy to gardeners.

A regular flower bed differs from other types in that only strict geometric patterns are allowed in it. Each drawing should have its own unique shade. Vegetation should be planted in a specific pattern so that a clear boundary is visible between flowers. To get the desired effect, choose flowers with an identical flowering period. You should also take care of proper lighting. The presence of shadow is not allowed, as it will spoil the appearance of the flower garden.

Most often, such flower beds are located in city parks, alleys and gardens. Arranging a flower garden of this type at your dacha can only be done if your plot has a sufficient area, because such compositions are considered the largest.

Irregular

Irregular flower beds are easier to care for compared to the previous flower garden. For this reason, they are in demand among landscape designers and ordinary gardeners. For such a flower bed you will not need to select different types of flowers that coincide in flowering time. Experts usually recommend choosing varieties that bloom at different times. When one part of the flowers fades, a new batch will take its place.

This quality allows the flowerbed to delight its owners throughout the season. With an irregular flower bed, you can show off the natural beauty of flowers along with a variety of color options. These flower beds do not have clearly defined geometric shapes.

The flower bed should be planted in an open area with sufficient sunlight. This is due to the fact that most flowers do not like partial shade. Large varieties of plants should be planted in the central part so that you can admire the composition from all sides.

If your flowerbed is accessible only from one side, tall flowers are planted on the far side.

To create such a flower bed, you should choose different varieties of plants. Most gardeners choose perennial varieties, which include roses, peonies and phlox. You can add popular annual species to the composition: impatiens, asters, snapdragons. This list is not mandatory; you can plant any flowers depending on your preferences and imagination.

Carpet

This type of flower garden is rarely used. Sometimes city services resort to a similar composition when landscaping the city. Externally, flower beds look like a panel, which contains low-growing plants with a bright appearance. The composition of the flower bed should be selected in such a way that the flowering time of all varieties approximately coincides. The design features a clever interweaving of patterns, which creates an attractive pattern, similar to the pattern of an oriental carpet.

Creating and maintaining an attractive appearance of such a flower garden is accompanied by significant difficulties, but the result can amaze everyone. Guests or random passers-by will admire your talent when they see this beauty. If you decide to place a carpet flower bed on your property, be prepared to care for it every week.

Plants that are wilted and have lost their attractiveness should be removed, and those that are growing should be pruned. Make sure that there is a clear boundary between different varieties of flowers. Violation of the drawing must not be allowed. Many summer residents plant plants directly in pots. This solution leads to rapid drying of the soil and the need for intensive watering.

Elevated

Raised flower beds are currently popular. They got their name due to the fact that the flowerbed is located in special containers, which are raised from the ground level to a height of 20 cm. Due to this solution, you can plant vegetation in areas where this cannot be done in a simple way. For example, when decorating stairs, on soils with poor composition, in areas where communications pass. Raised flower beds are considered an expressive decorative component and will allow you to make the interior of your site original and unusual.

Raised flower beds can have different shapes. The material used to create the walls may also vary. The models used are versatile and suitable for a garden decorated in any style.

It is easy to care for the flowers that are in these flower beds. When choosing such products, remember that the soil will dry out more often than in traditional flower beds, so frequent watering is required.

Vegetation in such structures will develop better and bloom faster, since it does not need to be afraid of frost on the ground, the soil heats up more quickly and is sufficiently ventilated, and the water does not stagnate. Pests do not attack raised beds as often.

In raised flower beds you can grow plants that will delight you with their decorative qualities for a long time. Choose several varieties of plants to create variety in your flower garden. Many gardeners plant petunias, lobelia, nasturtium and other types of flowers. Ornamental grasses look good in large flower beds.

If your flower garden is at a height of 50 cm or more, perennial varieties may freeze out. Therefore, plant only annuals in such products. There should be pebble or gravel drainage at the bottom.

Vertical

Vertical flower beds can act not only as a beautiful decoration for any landscape design, but also become a functional solution while saving space. They amaze with their unusual appearance and diverse forms. Such flower beds are suitable for growing many varieties of plants, including petunia, begonia, verbena and bacopa.

Typically, vertical plantings are used in city landscaping., but in summer cottages such flower beds also fit well into the interior. With this solution, you will create an unusual screen that will highlight an unremarkable corner of your garden or hide certain objects from prying eyes. When creating such a flower bed, you should choose a durable frame on which flowerpots with flowers will be attached floor by floor. Ultimately, you will get a solid flower column, which looks attractive paired with hanging varieties.

You can give the frame any shape, thereby giving the flowerbed the appearance of any fairy-tale character or animal. Such solutions are often used for decorative dilution of the territory and thematic design of certain areas.

Ring

Such a flower garden differs from a simple one in that it encircles a certain object on the estate. The object can be a fruit tree, sculpture, gazebo and other interior components.

Most summer residents decide to equip such structures by placing beautiful vases with flowers or an original statue in the central part. When choosing plants, focus on the height of the variety: tall representatives should be planted on the inner radius, and lower ones on the outer radius. Thanks to this solution, you will get an unusual pedestal made of flower plants.

You can plant flowers using different methods. If you are planning a specific pattern, choose plants that are the same height.

On round flower beds that can be viewed from any side, tall flowers should be placed in the center.

Ostrovnaya

Such a flower garden should be located in the center of the lawn in an open area. This solution allows you to clearly view the flowerbed. You can make a small or medium sized flower garden. It will contain about 3-5 original varieties of flowers. Peonies, garden daisies and delphinium are often planted. If desired, you can make the flowerbed larger by placing more plants in it.

Lawns next to the flower bed will create a bright and lush environment in which the flower bed will be an accent spot.

Panel

This solution acts as an interesting decorative component, which is often used by landscapers when working in urban environments. The flower garden combines elements of a carpet and a regular flower bed. Designers decorate such solutions with various images, ranging from portraits to calendar inscriptions. Instead of paints, experts use low-growing plant varieties.

Panels can be created from flowering and non-flowering plants, which have bright foliage. Similar decorative components are created before the holidays in a certain theme, but you can create a similar flower garden at your dacha yourself. The choice of pattern and color scheme will depend on your imagination. When arranging a flower bed, select plants that bloom in the same season and for the same amount of time.

Chameleon

In appearance, this type of planting is no different from a standard flower bed. However, the vegetation that is present in a given flower garden should be selected taking into account the change in color during flowering. You can choose your own color combinations by studying the flowering times of the plants you like.

For example, in the autumn season you can plant a daffodil in a flower garden, which will decorate your garden with white color in the spring. In spring, you can also plant pink petunias to change the appearance of the flower bed. Use grown seedlings for these purposes. To ensure that petunia blooms immediately after the daffodil, plant the seeds at the end of March.

Monoclumba

Monoflowers are a flower garden in which there is only one type of plant. Typically, gardeners choose snapdragons, salvia and seed dahlias. This solution looks good in the garden and is used to divide the area into functional zones.

It is best to place flowers near the main entrance to the territory, near the doors or in the seating area. Bright flowers will attract the attention of your guests, so determine the place for the flower bed so that it is visible from each side.

Border

The flower border is used as a decorative fence. The width of a standard flower bed is no more than 60 cm. When planting, flowers that combine with each other, as well as shrubs, are used. You can use longitudinal and transverse symmetry.

Most of the principles of border equipment became known from the popular famous gardener and designer Gertrude Jekyll. She equipped her personal garden, which amazed those around her with its originality and artistic solutions.

To make your flower garden as rational and decorative as possible, you should use several rules:

  • If the border has its own color scheme, it should act as a contrast with the flower bed, for which the flower bed will be the frame;
  • When choosing low-growing perennials, keep in mind that they will grow in height and width. You will need to set aside a larger area for them;
  • Gaps in the edging look unattractive, so place identical flowers in two rows;
  • The standard border size should be no more than 50 cm in width and up to 40 cm in height. Choose low-rise floral frames;
  • Make sure that the frame does not look in different directions and has a neat and attractive appearance. To comply with this condition, you should buy small plants that have a low growth rate;
  • The decorative qualities of flowers should not depend on weather conditions. Your flowerbed should look attractive in any weather. Select unpretentious varieties of plants for the border, which are characterized by endurance even in a limited area.

The choice of flowers for such a flower garden is the key principle of arranging a quality flower bed.

Mixborder

These free flower beds are familiar to many gardeners. This solution is considered the most popular component in landscape design. They gained their popularity due to the fact that you can easily create a mixborder from perennial plant varieties, and you will admire your creation for several years. Arranging a flower garden of perennial flowers consists of several steps, after which you will receive a picturesque landscape that fits into any style.

Mixborders can be located on the external and internal borders of the territory. Some designers plant flowers near lawns and even between beds. In its appearance, the composition resembles a winding ridge, in which there are chaotically planted green plants and flowers.

If you want to create a flowerbed that will attract attention with its flowering from early spring until the last days of autumn, choose your plants wisely. You will need to purchase varieties of flowers that will smoothly replace each other during the flowering period. Such a solution can decorate individual beds and the entire area as a whole.

When choosing plants, consider not only the flowering period, but also the soil characteristics, humidity level and type of lighting. By choosing the right vegetation, you can get a continuously flowering mixborder that will please the eye not only during flowering, but also during the winter season. In winter, perennial varieties of grasses and coniferous shrubs can be used as bright touches.

Rabatka

The word “rabatka” is of German origin and is translated as “bed”. In Germany, vegetables were grown in garden beds, so this type of flowerbed has a long and narrow shape. However, the ridge has changed its purpose and is now used only for decorative purposes.

This flower garden is represented by a strip, the length of which reaches 15 meters. The width of the flower bed can be 0.5-3 meters. Long and narrow ridges are usually located next to paths, fences and decorative fences. They can decorate boring garden paths and hide unsightly foundations of buildings.

The decorative features of the ridge include its geometric, strict lines. There is a repetition of colors, shades and shapes here. The complexity of the repetitions depends on the parameters of the flowerbed and the author’s ideas. The simplest composition may have a couple of stripes of flowers. You can alternate groups of the same color, which are planted along the width of the flower bed, or use a checkerboard pattern. For wide ridges, it is possible to use flower sections with different shapes.

Roccary

Rockery is considered one of the most beautiful ways to decorate a summer cottage. It is a stone flower garden on flat ground. Before arranging such a flowerbed, you should study the features of the rockery so that it does not turn into an ordinary alpine slide.

In such a composition, attention is paid to additional components. The basis of the flower garden is created by large boulders, which can be arranged evenly or in any order. Small flowers should be present in the flowerbed with them. Preference is given to creeping, climbing and heather shrubs. You can consider other representatives from the plant world that fit the style of the flowerbed.

If you have chosen tall varieties of plants, then arrange a high border. For example, if you have red dahlias growing in your flower garden, then you can use white gillyflowers or snapdragons as a beautiful flower border.

Also, flower beds can vary in their color scheme.

Flowerbeds are:

  • Monochrome. This type contains flowers that have the same color, but different shades;
  • Contrasting. Such compositions contain plants that differ greatly in color;
  • With a scheme of approximate colors. There are 2-4 colors in the flowerbed, which are located in adjacent color circles.

Fashion trends and new items

In modern landscape design, there are many compositions from which you can create original flower beds. Using ready-made options or your imagination, you can landscape your summer cottage and surprise guests with flower arrangements.

The main advantage of a flower garden is its unlimited shapes. You can complement the composition using available materials. For example, in the central part of a flower bed on a small hill, you can install a tire in which a climbing plant grows. The stem should wrap around the tire. There are many similar options that will help you create an original design even in a small area.

Butterfly flower garden

If you are the owner of a large dacha, you can arrange a flower garden in the shape of a butterfly on your site. It can be placed on the lawn. Such a flower bed has the shape of a rectangle, with green vegetation growing at the corners. A butterfly should be placed in the central part of the composition. The original design is created using numerous plants and a rich range of colors. The boundaries of the wing should be shown using the same vegetation.

Other terrain can be indicated by different varieties of flowers and compact shrubs. You can improve such a flowerbed if you add a little volume to it.

To do this, you will need to lift the butterfly's head above the body. A similar effect can be achieved using earth.

Small suspended bridge

Since flower beds do not have a clear shape, you can depict any figure. The hanging bridge with flowers growing on it looks original at the dacha. To create such an element, you will need to draw a plan. First of all, the structure frame is installed, which will have a curved shape. Most designers recommend making a bridge from wood using a multi-stage system. At the boundaries of the steps you can arrange sides that will prevent the soil from falling off.

At the final stage, you will need to fill the bridge with soil so that a smooth slide appears. After this, the plants should be planted. Choose low-growing varieties of flowers with small roots. Along the border of the structure, you can plant plants that can hide the sides.

Landscaping such a flower garden is a complicated task that will require a lot of effort. However, the end result will delight you and your guests with its unusual appearance and original idea. Also, creating such a bridge does not require much space, and shade-loving vegetation can be placed under it.

Rose garden

If you like decorative components in your garden, pay attention to the rose garden. In most cases it is created from red roses. Choose a well-lit area to place your flower bed, as roses bloom well in these conditions. Make sure that no objects obstruct the entry of sunlight and take care that there are no drafts.

If you want to install a flowerbed with gorgeous roses at your dacha, choose the south side of the site. The flower garden should be protected on three sides by trees that will not create shade for it. To create an original composition, choose decorative variations of purple, white or red. The rose garden can be decorated with secondary plants that will act as additions.

Roses require a lot of attention and extra care. Such flowers are dependent on the weather, but a blooming rose garden is worth all the effort. Arranging such a flower bed can become the highlight of any dacha, regardless of its size.

Vertical compositions

Vertical flower beds are popular. You can mount them on the walls of buildings and place bright flowers in them. Such a solution can decorate even the most boring corner of the territory, and petunias arranged in columns will turn an ordinary area into a voluminous colorful garden. Some summer residents plant clematis near old trees, which will cover the trunk with flowers and decorate the area for the whole season.

Choice of colors

Every summer resident wants the entrance of his house to look attractive. You can decorate this area with a composition of continuous flowering. To properly create a flower garden, you should know what flowers you need to purchase and how to plant them correctly.

Rules for choosing plants for a flower garden:

  • the composition should contain perennial and annual varieties of flowers. You can dilute the flowerbed with shrubs;
  • choose plants with identical requirements for humidity levels, type of lighting and watering needs;
  • do not plant aggressor plants. These include periwinkle and loosestrife. Avoid perennial varieties with easy insemination (poppy, lupine);
  • draw a plan diagram that will display the boundaries of the structure with a list of perennials and the arrangement of flowers in the composition.

As an approximate list of perennial plants by time of year, we can consider the following representatives:

  • in the spring you can admire the blooming of snowdrops, crocus, pushkinia, muscari, and hyacinth. Tulips, daffodils, primula, hellebore, daisies and erantis will delight you with their flowers;
  • for the summer season there is the largest list of flowers. During this period, aquilegia, poppies, lilies, daisies, peonies, carnations, irises, phlox, cornflowers, spurge, bells, heuchera bloom;
  • for autumn you can buy seeds of aster, chrysanthemum, sunflower, coreopsis;
  • There are also off-season plants that retain their decorative qualities for a long time. Such plants include coniferous trees and shrubs, ornamental grasses and ferns.

The final list will depend on the size of your flower garden. However, even in large flower beds you should not plant many perennial plants. Plant a few flowers, each type of which will occupy a sufficient area.

With this solution, you can eliminate excessive variegation, which negatively affects the perception of the flower garden.

The resulting list of vegetation can be divided into two categories:

  • flowers with a short growing season. These include spring bulbous varieties. You can then plant some annuals instead. Choose vegetation that produces significant green mass from a single root. Petunia is best suited for this role. Vertical petunias can decorate not only a flower garden, but also any unremarkable object on your site;
  • The second category contains perennial varieties. They will not spoil the appearance of the flower garden after flowering has ended.

Once you have decided on a list of perennial plant varieties and their characteristics, you can begin planting. Number each plant and place according to the indicated plan. When you finish making your plan, some spaces may be empty. To remove voids, use annuals. Give preference to unpretentious vegetation, which includes asters, petunias, nasturtiums, and dahlias.

Every self-respecting housewife plants roses on her property. These flowers are considered the “queens” of the garden and require special care. If you are not afraid of problems and worries due to unsuccessful attempts, you can make beautiful flower beds of roses, decorating your estate with them.

You can create a rose garden or flower bed with roses, which will be located along garden paths or decorate a certain area. If you like single representatives, choose the brightest and most luscious types of roses so that they act as an accent spot in the dacha.

How to make one from waste material?

Using waste materials, you can create an original landscape design, saving money. From such raw materials you will get unusual flower beds that will fit well into the interior of the site and will attract the admiring glances of your guests.

In addition to their decorative qualities, homemade flower beds from scrap items can become a unifying component for green spaces in the garden with residential buildings. Some gardeners turn unique thematic designs into reality, turning ordinary wooden carts into fairy-tale carriages with “flower horses” or planting blue flowers in the form of a stream that runs from a jug buried in the ground.

Wood is considered a rather cozy and warm material that looks good in a dacha area. It does not heat up under the sun and does not act as a reflector of sunlight, which makes it safe. Many craftsmen love to create various objects from wood, as the process is interesting and exciting. However, wood has a drawback, which is its fragility, which can be somewhat compensated for with the help of special impregnations and tinting. You can use any wood in your work: cut branches, clapboard, picket fence or slab.

Stones make affordable and simple flower beds. If you create compositions in the same style, the area will acquire a neat and attractive appearance. Stone structures are attractive because they are an organic part of nature, and the borders created from them go well with any type of landscape design.

When creating a fence, remember that its “fence” must have a uniform structure. You should not choose stones of the same color and shape. It is optimal to make borders from slate, limestone, granite and sandstone.

The easiest option for creating a rock bed is to simply lay a row of rocks around the bed. Many summer residents resort to this method, but you can make the design more complex by adding two tiers. This composition will look good with slate, as it looks like layering several stone layers of stone. With a couple of tiers, you can create a decorative flower bed that emphasizes the style of the site.

If you have accumulated a large number of plastic bottles, do not rush to throw them away. They can become the basis for an interesting design on a personal plot. Bottles can be used in different interpretations, depending on the dimensions of the material.

From a large container you can create a beautiful flower bed. You will need to lay the bottle on its side and cut out one side. This part will be the top of the flowerbed, and the container will become a container for the ground. With the help of several bottles you can make an original composition in the form of a train or other figure. Using paints, you can turn bottles into funny animals that will delight your children. Unpretentious flowers that can grow on a limited plot of land should be planted in such flower beds.

You can also make high beds from plastic bottles, which are framed by plastic necks dug into the ground. You can paint the frame in different colors or fill it with colored powders. Such fences are durable and aesthetically appealing. Using this method, you can decorate not only flower beds, but also the garden itself as a whole.

Brick flower beds are considered the most optimal option for a summer cottage.

The easiest way is flowers surrounded around the perimeter by bricks in a random arrangement. Some summer residents get creative and lay bricks on top of each other at a certain angle, digging them a little into the ground.

You can create complex and original flower beds from brick.

To do this you will need to follow several recommendations:

  • such structures should be laid out according to a pre-thought-out design;
  • you will need to mark the outline of the future object;
  • then you need to dig a hole and fill it with drainage;
  • the next step is to build the brick walls. The first row does not need to be fastened with mortar. This is required so that excess moisture can flow freely from the flowerbed;
  • subsequent rows must be laid in tandem with cement;
  • if you decide to make a high flower bed, tilt the masonry slightly inward so that the soil does not “push” it out;
  • the finished structure should be left for 7 days to allow the masonry to harden.

Such flower beds can be adjacent to the walls or stand alone. When choosing the second method, you will need to plant the plants in such a way that the flower garden looks attractive from any vantage point.

Almost everyone at their dacha can find an old cast iron pot that is long overdue to be thrown away. Don’t rush to get rid of unnecessary things - you can make an original flower garden from cast iron. With the help of an impromptu flowerbed, you can decorate any summer cottage, giving it a rustic flavor. In Provence or country style, such a decorative solution will be indispensable.

To make a flowerbed with your own hands, you will need to clean the surface of the future “vase” and make a hole in the base. With the help of several cast iron pots you can create original compositions that will surprise your guests.

In addition to the materials listed, you can use other unnecessary things that are on your summer cottage. To create an interesting composition, all you need is your imagination, an earthen mixture and flowers. For decoration, you can use simple paints and other related items.

Master classes on design

Anyone can decorate a flower bed near their home.

To avoid mistakes and reduce time costs, step-by-step instructions describing the actions will help you:

  • First of all, you need to create a project that will help you decide in which part of the site the finished flower beds will be located. Decide on the type of fence, the shape of the structure and the type of flowers that will grow in the flowerbed. This knowledge will help you make a list of necessary materials, seeds, care products and decorative framing;
  • Sketching the diagram will only be a rough draft of your work. You can decide on the optimal placement of vegetation only at the time of planting flowers;
  • For a flower garden, you should choose a well-lit area. The soil must be fertile, so choose suitable fertilizers for it. The choice of site affects the varieties of flowers that can grow in the new flowerbed;

  • If you're new to gardening, start with low-maintenance plants. In the future, you can try flowers that are more difficult to care for in order to create a more sophisticated design and realize original ideas;
  • With the help of painstaking selection and combination of beautiful colors, you can come up with numerous compositions that will delight others in early spring and late autumn. There are ready-made flower bed designs that help simplify the work of arranging a flower bed;
  • Based on the type of landscape and area of the territory, you can create a composition in the form of a flat structure or create slightly raised flower beds framed in the form of stones or decorative tiles;
  • If you have the opportunity, arrange stone flower beds in front of the terrace or in another part of the garden. Such a solution will help to make attractive compositions even from simple plants;

  • You will need to plant similar varieties of flowers. Think over schemes with which you will get an organic combination;
  • When planting plants, do not forget about aesthetics. You can use the multi-tiered principle, where low-growing flowers are present in the foreground. They will act as a frame for medium-height plants with beautiful flowering;
  • Low vegetation will act as the central link of the composition and attract all the attention. Tapeworms will look beautiful against the background of tall plants that have decorative foliage or contrasting colors;
  • No less successful is a composition that combines tall perennials with medium-sized vegetation. For maximum effect, you will need to maintain harmony in the colors and shapes of flowers.

Many designers suggest replacing flower beds with decorative beds in a regular style. With the help of an aesthetically designed vegetable garden, which is located next to the house, you can admire the beautiful landscape while enjoying the pleasant aromas of flowers. Layout of such flower beds in the yard will take a little time and will help you decorate the area.

You can start creating a flower bed with your own hands right in the beds. The flower garden consists of raised beds made of beams and thick boards, along the upper perimeter of which there is a platband. As an alternative, you can use tiled stone walls.

To create paths among decorative flower beds, you will need to place soil in the beds and plant garden plants. When planting, you can simply choose a straight line or diversify the design with geometric patterns. Contrast in the composition can be achieved by combining different varieties of lettuce, basil and ornamental cabbage. A rectangular arrangement of radishes or dill will act as the border of the flower bed.

Beautiful ideas

There are many ideas that will help you create beautiful and unusual flower beds at your dacha. You can create flower beds from any material, even from the one you wanted to throw in a landfill. As an example, here are a few common ideas that are suitable even for novice gardeners.

Every person has seen a flowerbed in a car tire. As a rule, courtyards of apartment buildings are decorated in this way. You can take this garden idea and add your own touches to it. You will need to paint the tire, add some decoration to it and plant your favorite varieties of flowers.

To make the splint unique, cut it in half and bend it into the shape of a vase. The resulting “pot” should be painted in a bright shade, filled with earth and decorated with your favorite flowers. Externally, such a flower garden will resemble plastic structures. You can make multi-tiered compositions from tires of different sizes that will add originality to your suburban area.

If you have unrooted stumps on your property, they can be a good basis for a flower garden. To work, you will need the stump itself, working tools, soil and flowers.

When arranging such a composition, do not forget about drainage and additional watering so that the plants do not die from thirst and excess moisture.

Anyone can create a flower garden from old furniture. This option is suitable even for a private home. You can use unwanted beds, chests of drawers, tables and chairs as a base. There are no restrictions on ideas. Each item can be used and turned into an original flower arrangement.

Vertical flower beds in tins, located on the outer wall of the house, will help make the interior unusual. Once you make such a flower garden, you can transform the appearance of your home forever. Use diagrams with layout drawings to wisely choose a place for future flower beds, and think over the irrigation system.

With a well-designed system, you can use water from the roof. Such solutions are suitable for moisture-loving plants that are not afraid of excessive humidity. In addition to tin cans, you can use simple beds in which cucumber and other climbing garden crops will grow.

A flower garden on a bicycle - this option is suitable for those gardeners who want to stand out from the rest and are looking for original ideas. You can create a flowerbed with your own hands from an old bicycle. Use a three-wheeled or two-wheeled vehicle as a base.

To give the future flowerbed a decorative look, start painting the bicycle. You will need to purchase several containers for soil (you can use an old pan, canister, box or basin) and fill them with soil. The last stage is planting the plants.

With this simple solution you will get a stylish decoration for your garden. Such a flower bed can be located in any part of the garden.

When arranging flower beds in your summer cottage, you should remember that you need to be able to choose flowers wisely and place them in the flower garden. Original flower beds attract attention, but well-groomed and beautiful flowers come first, as they are the central link of the entire composition. Take this issue responsibly and select varieties that are compatible in style and color.

To learn how to create a beautiful flowerbed with your own hands, watch the following video.

It’s very easy to give your patio a cozy and attractive look. A small flower garden near the path and an alpine hill on the lawn behind the house will create a unique charm for the country estate. And in order to show individuality and realize your creative potential, it is better to create a flowerbed with your own hands. But landscaping requires a thoughtful approach, so you should be well prepared!

The main principles of creating a flowerbed with your own hands

City dwellers, breaking free into country life for the first time, often have no idea how to properly design their plot. Fortunately, mistakes in gardening are not terrible - you can always replace plants you don’t like. But why add hassle and financial expenses to yourself if everything can be done right?

Landscape plan of the site

Even a small yard requires a carefully thought out landscaping plan. Otherwise, it will turn from a work of art into a lush but tasteless flowerbed. You can contact professionals who will prepare a landscape design project based on specific data on the location and size of the site.

In the latter case, you should adhere to the main principles of landscape design:

  1. Equilibrium. All sides of the yard should be equal, without preponderance in any part. In practice, this means not crowding the center of the front lawn with a multi-tiered flower bed, leaving the far corner of the yard empty.
  2. Harmony. The garden should be liked, first of all, by its owners. But you shouldn’t try to fit a pond, a fountain, a sundial and a rockery into it - unless the plot is the size of a hectare. There must be free space so that the abundance of plants does not create “pressure” on vacationers.
  3. Moderation. The number of flower beds should not clutter the area, but only zone it. Thus, it is better to divide a narrow courtyard into several zones so as not to create the effect of a long corridor with a path in the middle. In a square garden, round flower beds and curved lines will be appropriate.
  4. Seasonality. The garden should look beautiful not only in summer, but also in winter. The lush greens or ocher colors of autumn leaves will make any area attractive. But bare branches and black empty flower beds will evoke melancholy. Therefore, it is necessary to include in the composition evergreen trees and bushes with bright, non-falling foliage - barberry, juniper and boxwood.
  5. Color combination. Bright colors should be interspersed with calm greenery, and you should not combine more than three primary colors in one flowerbed. The abundance of flowering plants, arranged chaotically and without a well-thought-out scheme, evokes associations with the floral layout at the market.
  6. Points of attention. Every garden should have several interesting objects that will attract the eye. This could be a flowerbed made from an old chest of drawers or a secluded gazebo hidden in a corner, woven with wild grapes. The main thing is that such objects should not immediately catch the eye, but attract attention and arouse the desire to examine them.

When the approximate plan of the site is ready, you need to take the time to study the conditions of maintenance and the mature appearance of the selected plants. After all, even a rock garden created by professionals will require constant and proper care, which an amateur gardener definitely cannot handle.

And a mast pine tree on three hundred square meters is not a very good choice.

Basic rules for flower beds

Once the locations for the flower beds have been chosen, you can begin by planning their composition. This also has its own characteristics:

  • plants are selected according to soil type;
  • conditions of care and maintenance should be similar;
  • the use of commensal plants is allowed - when one plant benefits from the existence of another, but does not harm it;
  • The flowerbed should look beautiful all year round.

Thus, plants that love acidic and alkaline soils should not be planted in the same flowerbed with common soil. On the other hand, flowers that require highly acidic soil can grow in moderately acidic soil, although they will appear somewhat weaker. For example, in a flowerbed with alkaline soil you can plant maples, hawthorn, rowan, decorate it with barberry, boxwood and meadowsweet shrubs, and plant low flowering plants at the edges - snapdragons, carnations or cornflowers.

Flowers in the same flowerbed should love the same conditions - humidity, sun and overhead or root watering. Thus, mosses and lichens require constantly moist soil and grow best in the shade. Azalea also loves moisture, and can burn in the open sun. So they perfectly complement each other and can be planted along the fence or under the canopy of a spreading catalpa.

At the same time, roses do not tolerate overhead watering, so it is better to plant them separately from all other plants and water them individually, pouring water directly under the bush.

If you want to combine tall and short plants, you can plant low-growing evergreen trees, and under them - primroses, aquilegias and polemonium. The spreading crown will create sufficient shade even in the middle of the yard, while the flowers will add variety with bright colors.

If you are planning a high flower bed at the entrance, you need to think about how it will look at any time of the year. Annual and wildly flowering plants are suitable here: in spring and summer, sulfinias and petunias delight the eyes, in autumn - chrysanthemums, and in winter you can decorate the flowerbed with a low artificial Christmas tree or place decorative figurines.

Mistakes of novice gardeners

Those who have not made mistakes have never designed their garden on their own. But you can learn from other people's mistakes! So, what a novice gardener should not do:

  1. Don't try to fill the void in your flower beds with only perennial plants. The young garden will constantly grow and in a few years five barberry bushes, interspersed with juniper, will fill the entire flowerbed. It is better to fill the free space with annual flowers - their number can be adjusted every year depending on need.
  2. There is no need to plant plants chaotically, without a clear idea of the future picture. Firstly, it creates a sloppy look, and secondly, some flowers will simply get lost against the background of the rest. For example, rose bushes planted in pairs - white with pale pink or red with dark burgundy - look very advantageous. In addition, roses create an excellent background for low-growing flowers.
  3. You can’t choose flowers only based on the shape of the inflorescences you like. So, dahlias look beautiful in a bouquet, but in a flowerbed they definitely need to be tied up and planted in a distant line. Asters and chrysanthemums also need to be chosen according to the shape of the bushes, but petunias and carnations can be safely chosen according to their flowers.
  4. It is highly undesirable to make flower beds from color mixtures of one plant. It is better to choose several colors and make interesting patterns. In this case, it is advisable to avoid straight lines - winding, round or geometric shapes will look more original.

Very often, flower beds are planted with plants that bloom during one period. It is better to avoid this situation by choosing the composition in such a way that the plants can bloom from early spring to late autumn.

For example, snowdrops appear first, then the tulip period begins, and after them the leaves of daylilies and peonies bloom.

And in order for the economic hand to be visible, the flowerbed must be regularly thinned, removing faded and dead parts. A few yellowed inflorescences on a hydrangea are enough to make the flower garden look untidy. If regular care is problematic, it is better to focus on evergreens and conifers.

Simple flower beds made from scrap materials

Financial restrictions are not a reason to deny yourself a beautiful flower garden. After all, it can be made from literally anything! All you have to do is use your imagination and sort out the piles of rubbish in the shed.

Bottle fencing

This option is suitable for unpretentious summer residents and city residents who want to decorate their local area. A low border will protect the flower garden from the encroachments of unscrupulous dog owners - animals are much smarter than people and often do not try to step over even such low fences. And the very fact of the presence of a border indicates that this flowerbed is being looked after.

For the bottle fence you will need:

  • glass or plastic bottles, preferably 1.5 liters;
  • garden shovel or hoe;
  • sand (if the site has insufficiently loose soil);
  • paint – paint the finished border if you come across bottles of different sizes.

The procedure is quite simple, you can even involve children in it to cultivate hard work in them:

Tall flower beds made from bottles look original. They are laid on a thick cement solution, the first layer should be placed in a recess or on the base - so that the bottles do not move apart. Each tier is filled with concrete from the inside so that the neck is in the solution. And to prevent concrete from flowing inside the circle, internal formwork is made. The only disadvantage of this solution is that it is quite difficult to find identical glass bottles.

Tire basics

Tires are the most popular bases for country and city flower beds. Strong, durable and unnecessary. Their appearance is quite unpretentious, but with a little imagination, you can create really interesting yard decorations.

Multi-tiered flower beds made up of several tires look good. In this case, you can take tires of different diameters, radii and widths. If you want to add some variety, you can paint the old wheels, but it is better not to get carried away with colorful colors, choosing white or green. This way the base of the flowerbed will not distract attention from the flowers themselves.

Original compositions from old things

What some consider unnecessary trash, summer residents can turn into real works of art! For example, an old chair makes an excellent vintage flowerpot stand. By complementing the composition with the rest of the set, you will get an original flowerbed. Definitely no other housewife has one like this!

Any old things will be used. Even a suitcase without a handle can come in handy again.

If you have an old chest of drawers at home, you should never throw it away! It will be an excellent decoration for a blank stone wall in the far corner of the garden.

But when breathing new life into old things, it is important to carefully treat them with antiseptic solutions that prevent rotting. And then the original flower beds will become the hallmark of the house!

Beautiful and versatile flower beds

Complex flower beds look much more advantageous on any site. But even if you don’t want to bother with capital construction, you can make beautiful vertical flower beds from pots.

To do this, you will need the pots themselves and one metal rod. The pots begin to be strung on it through the drainage hole and themselves take the desired slope.

Another type of convenient and simple flower bed is a column of petunias. It can be moved on a stand with wheels throughout the entire territory, and can be simply disassembled for the winter. For the device you will need a net, a large pot, black spunbond, a cable tie and a lot of petunias or sulfinia seedlings.

Creating a brick fence

A brick flowerbed allows you to advantageously zone the space and is suitable for both large and small courtyards. This is also a great option for flower lovers who don't want to waste their time mowing the lawn.

Making such a flower bed is not difficult, but it takes a long time:

A brick fence for a flower bed can be assembled without mortar. But it does not look so neat, and there is a greater chance that such a structure will collapse over time.

If you don’t want to mix concrete, you can frame the flowerbed with low stone edges.

Laying stone borders without mortar

To do this, a small ditch is dug around the perimeter of the flower bed and bricks are laid in it. The advantage of this solution is that the flowerbed can always be enlarged or its shape changed. When, after a couple of years, the border begins to be overgrown with grass, it is easy to remove it, clean it and lay it again.

To prevent the stones from moving, it is still better to fix them with a small amount of cement. But it’s quite possible to do without it. Such a border is placed on the ground from which the top layer of grass has been removed. The rows are laid gradually, and the evenness of the masonry is determined by the stretched twine.

To ensure that it lies securely, the lower large stones are placed in a previously dug trench. The second layer of stones begins to be laid after the soil is poured inside the flowerbed. It will fix the already laid stones and allow you to install the top ones.

Their design is quite simple: you can buy ready-made cages and fill them with stones or assemble the base yourself. To do this, you will need to dig a trench 25 cm deep, cover the bottom with geotextile, install a strong mesh of the required height and fill the trench with gravel and sand. To prevent the gabions from wobbling, reinforcing rods are dug in every 50 cm. And the mesh sections are treated with an anti-corrosion compound.

You can purchase them or make them yourself from stiff wire. Ready-made gabions are closed cages, which is why they got their name. Self-made flower beds can be left open by simply pouring heaps of stones.

A flowerbed can even be made from waste corrugated sheets after installing a fence! The video shows a simple and quick way to create a beautiful two-tier flower bed:

When all the large-scale work on the site is completed - the house is erected, built, the trees are planted, the paths are laid, and the areas are paved, it is time to think about the design of the flower beds at the dacha in order to give your own country property a complete look. A lived-in, cozy hacienda is unthinkable without beautiful flower beds that create the mood and joyful feeling of country life.

Types of country flower beds

Flowerbed is the general name for all flower or decorative plantings, fenced or having a clear shape.

  • Types of flower beds: free (landscape), regular (strictly shaped, symmetrically designed), annuals, perennials, including ornamental trees, shrubs, various.
  • Mixborder is an elongated flower bed along paths, enclosing structures, where plants are selected in height from smaller to taller, and according to flowering time so as to look impressive for most of the growing season.
  • Parterre is an extensive flower garden of strict shape (square, rectangle), occupying a central place in the garden, where plants are planted in contrasting patterns.
  • Rabatka is a strip bordering the paths, where relatively low flowering plants create a clearly defined ornament.
  • – involves planning flower beds from the gate to the entrance of the house, with the presence of tapeworms (single plants that attract attention) to create a beautiful appearance of the cottage, visible from the driveways.

When choosing plants for flower beds, take into account the timing of flowering so that some flowers replace others and the flower bed is not empty. Keep in mind that each plant variety has its own “early birds” and “night owls”, i.e. varieties that will bloom later with a difference of 2-3 weeks.

An important point to consider when laying out a flower bed is its visibility. Some flower beds assume a circular appearance, i.e. they are equally impressive from several viewpoints. Planar flower beds look better from elevated positions and are also interesting for use on terraces. Vertically and horizontally oriented flower beds emphasize the necessary dominants, visually expand the space or add intimacy to the dacha corner.

Where to begin

Having decided to create a decorative corner - a flower bed - in your garden plot, you need to perform several sequential operations:

  • Collect illustrative material (magazines with flower bed diagrams, websites on landscape design, gardening forums on the Internet will help with this).
  • Decide on desires and capabilities (what plants you like, what will survive in a particular climate, what are the financial resources allocated for the purchase of planting material).

Growing the required number of specimens from seeds yourself will help reduce financial costs. This process takes more time, but does not put a strain on the family wallet, especially if the area of the flower beds is large and the number of plants approaches a hundred or more.

  • Lay out a flowerbed, think about its fencing (stone, wood, concrete, plastic, earthen ditch separating the flower bed from the lawn).
  • Prepare the land for planting (add the necessary soil components, apply the required fertilizers).
  • Create a diagram (your own sketch) taking into account the dimensions (height and width) of the plants.
  • Decide how the flowerbed will be planted - for growth or so that it looks good on the first day. Calculate planting density.
  • Place pots with plants in the area to check the correctness and harmony of their placement not on paper, but visually.
  • Plant and water. Mulch open areas of soil between plants, leaving clean soil 10-15 cm from the stems (trunks).
  • Support the survival rate of plants (provide the necessary watering, shading if the weather is very hot).
  • Enjoy the result and start making new plans.

Which plants to choose

In order for the flower garden to charm guests and delight the family for a long time (for example, peonies and clematis grow in one place for several decades), select only climate-resistant, unpretentious plants. Having planted specimens that you really like, but require care and shelter and do not tolerate Russian winters well, you will carefully care for them.

However, after 3-5 years, removing dead bushes that did not survive the winter in the spring, you will realize that you no longer have the strength to care for the whims. At this moment, you will come to the decision to replace all the “southerners” with zoned ornamental plants. So why not immediately pay attention to those flowers that feel good in your climate?

The initial selection of suitable planting material for flower beds, varieties and species that are resistant to the climatic conditions of the region has many advantages:

  • Easy maintenance (no need to build serious winter shelters).
  • Preservation of one’s own nervous system (no worries about plants that are poorly covered or opened at the wrong time, fears of damping off, getting wet, damage by moles or mice that love to live under shelters in winter).
  • Lower financial costs (there are no costs for purchasing new replacement plants).
  • Labor costs are reduced (there is no annual digging up of “dead” specimens and planting new ones in their place).
  • A more neat appearance of flower beds in winter (even snowy spaces with bushes covered with frost or snow caps look much more presentable than wooden boxes or arc structures throughout the area).

Every passionate summer resident who feels like a landscape designer of a particular plot needs a rest. Without time to admire your own achievements, there will be no pleasure from the completed task and country life in general. Therefore, plant more unpretentious plants, they will allow you to enjoy the surrounding beauty more.

Fashion trends and non-standard solutions

Modern landscape design offers a wide variety of compositions for flower beds in a suburban area. The main direction is “harmony in simplicity.” There are several ways to implement it.

Type of designSolution
Monochrome (use of a single color scheme)Greens in different shades: silver-green, blue-green, dark green, lemon green
Green-white: tree hydrangea, derain, astilbe, white peonies, white-flowered primrose, jasmine, spotted-leaved hosta, spirea vangutta, mock orange
Green-pink: peonies, roses, clematis, astilbe, heuchera, chrysanthemums, bergenia
Red: red-leaved maples, ornamental barberries, heucheras
Monoformity (selection of planted plants of a single shape)A combination of plants with a round crown in one flower bed: spherical willow, spherical thuja, round spirea, large-leaved hydrangea bushes, roses on a trunk, rounded forms of herbaceous plants (gray fescue)
Contrast (choosing plants with flowers of rich colors)Blue-yellow (delphinium, irises, violas, suitable varieties of marigolds, nasturtiums, yellow daylilies)
Blue-pink (roses and framed with lavender, verbena, matthiola bicorne)

Another interesting technique is to create vertical flower beds. Strengthening flower containers on the walls of buildings and planting bright annuals in them will decorate boring corners of the garden, and creating columns with petunias placed throughout the height will add originality and rich aroma, turning a flat area into a luxurious voluminous flower garden. Clematis planted near an old tree (species can be used as it is more resistant to unfavorable conditions) will cover the trunk with a wave of flowers, delighting the summer resident with continuous flowering for 3 months.

Decorative design of flower beds in a summer cottage

Landscape design rules allow you to decorate flower beds with a variety of decorations. Almost any of them, with some effort, can be done with your own hands. Such a move is especially appropriate when arranging central flower beds, where the decorative element is visible from all sides, as well as “secret corners” for relaxation, hidden from direct view and full of intimate charm.

The following is often used as the basis around which the flowerbed composition is formed:

  • mosaic balls, birdbaths, sundial;
  • wooden snags, carts, logs, stumps, wheels;
  • sculptures;
  • mirrors;
  • trellises, arches, figured structures;
  • plants with a dense crown, trimmed in the form of various figures (topiary art).

Each of these elements plays a solo role in the flowerbed. Plants of different sizes create a common background, and some specimens (for example, climbing roses) often act as a duet with the decorations.

In addition to the central elements, a major role in the decorative design of flower beds is played by:

  • fencing;
  • solar-powered lamps;
  • mulching with colored wood chips and different shades of gravel.

In the latter case, alternating multi-colored wavy stripes can emphasize the interesting shape of a flower bed or highlight a bright plant.

Combination of beautiful and useful

Recently, in landscape design, it has become fashionable to use regular style flower beds instead of flower beds. Placing an artistically laid out vegetable garden near your home allows you to enjoy a beautiful view, concentrated aromas of herbs and save time (everything you need for a salad is nearby).

In the original (French royal vegetable garden), the framing of the beds was made of trimmed boxwood. In our climate, this plant requires shelter for the winter, but even this does not guarantee survival. And its “deputy”, privet, will require a lot of time for cutting in order to maintain the border in perfect shape.

Therefore, when laying out flower beds of the “ornamental vegetable garden” type, it is better to limit yourself to creating raised beds from timber, thick processed boards with a platband along the upper perimeter, or laying out the walls from slab stone.

Having laid the earthen composition inside the beds, all that remains is to plant garden plants in even rows or geometric patterns. A contrasting pattern can be obtained by arranging different varieties of lettuce (green, red, lemon flowers), purple and green basil, varieties of ornamental cabbage (it can be eaten), dividing the space into cells, using lines of radishes or dill as a border.

Now that the summer season has not yet begun, we mentally rush into the garden with the question, what to do in the garden this year? We think about what went well in the garden and what didn’t work out. Which flowers have taken root and survived the winter - it’s like the return of old friends. And what new flower beds near the house we can make this year.

We arrange flower beds near the house.

It is often thought that in the new season it is enough to complete what was started in previous years and work with what is already there. However, new ideas, new beautiful varieties of flowers, tempt us into new projects.

For example, make a flower bed near a blank wall of the house, so it will obviously look better.

It is better to use unpretentious perennials for the base - phlox of different colors are perfect, and for annuals you can place them in pots on a shelf on the wall of the house. Petunia will feel great there. And our flowerbed will gain additional height and volume.

Are there any other new ideas? I want to show some plants close-up: create more romantic corners in partial shade near the house - delicate bluebells are suitable for this.

And the hosta will decorate shady areas with its presence. Carefully bending around the garden gazebo, it creates a secluded corner of the garden right next to the house.

And as usual, many spontaneous projects appear in the spring. We offer a few photos to give you new ideas. Look how perfectly herbaceous hibiscus and verbena combine in a flower garden.

This fluffy beauty is nothing more than borage. It actually grows like a weed. But look how beautiful she is! In addition, it is used in food as a seasoning, and its dried leaves can be used to make a tonic tea.

“No new projects in the garden,” that’s what the owners told each other at the beginning of the season. There's plenty of other work to do, and you can't get too worked up about it. And when all the sowing was finished and everyone calmed down a little, a child came from kindergarten and said, “I want my own flowerbed!” — they were told that it was time to start taking care of someone. No sooner said than done.

What are you planning for the new season?

Every housewife, even the most thrifty one, when buying seeds for planting, will definitely take a few bags of flowers along with herbs and vegetables. After all, you really want to not only harvest the harvest you grew with your own hands, but also enjoy the bright colors and fragrance throughout the warm season, from spring to late autumn.

Unfortunately, few of us know how to properly plan the planting of a flower garden so that it has an aesthetic appearance and continues to bloom. Planning a flower garden seems such an overwhelming and difficult task for us that in most cases the seeds are thrown into the ground all in a row, in the hope that something will bloom anyway. In fact, everything is not as scary as it seems at first glance. Knowing a few basic rules and applying them in practice, even a novice gardener will be able to create a real masterpiece with his own hands in his garden plot or dacha.

The easiest way to have a beautiful front lawn

You've certainly seen the perfect lawn in a movie, on an alley, or perhaps on your neighbor's lawn. Those who have ever tried to grow a green area on their site will no doubt say that it is a huge amount of work. The lawn requires careful planting, care, fertilization, and watering. However, only inexperienced gardeners think this way; professionals have long known about the innovative product - liquid lawn AquaGrazz.

We take a plan of our plot with a house, outbuildings and paths marked on it, then we determine what we will use for vegetable beds, and all that remains is our field for activity. Mostly these will be pieces of free land in front of the house, strips along the paths; space for flower beds can be allocated both in the recreation area and in the garden by creating so-called tree-trunk flower beds. Having decided on the locations of our future flower beds, we can proceed directly to planning. There are several types of flower beds based on space, shape and purpose:

  • flower beds,
  • discounts,
  • curbs,
  • mixborders,
  • rockeries,
  • stalls.

An example of flower garden planning can be seen in the photo.

Flowerbeds

Flowerbeds are the most common and popular type of flower decoration in a personal plot or country house. Typically, flower beds are laid out in the correct geometric shape:

  • square,
  • round,
  • rectangular.

To clearly define the boundaries of the flowerbed, you can use various materials, for example, stones, tiles or a small decorative fence made by yourself. At the site of the future flower garden, we remove the top layer of soil about 15 centimeters high, mix the selected soil with fertilizers and return it back, and it is advisable to distribute the soil so that there is a hill in the center. This will make it possible to see the flowers better. If you want to create a carpet flowerbed, it is better to choose low-growing flowers of the same height.

If this is an ordinary flower bed, the principle of planting flowers is as follows:

  • We place the tallest plants in the center,
  • closer to the edge - lower.

As in the photo.

For flower beds, you should select flowers with the longest flowering period. Suitable annuals include:

  • begonia,
  • lobelia,
  • petunia.

It is possible to use such perennials as

  • peony,
  • forget-me-not.

Flowerbeds are usually placed in a well-lit, visible place; it would be preferable to lay out several flowerbeds in the recreation area in front of the house.

Another type of flower garden - a tree-trunk flowerbed - will help decorate a garden in a personal plot or country house. This not only looks beautiful, but is also beneficial for the tree: by creating a certain mulch, the flowers will retain moisture for the tree. The most optimal diameter of such a flower bed is 1 meter. Before planting flowers, the site of the future flower garden must be fertilized. Various bulbous plants are suitable for such flower beds:

  • crocuses,
  • scillas,
  • daffodils,
  • tulips.

To keep your flowerbed happy all summer, you can sow annuals. An example of a tree trunk flower bed can be seen in the photo.

Edges and borders

But along the paths, around the gazebo, veranda, you can arrange ridges (long rectangular flower beds ranging from 40 centimeters to 2 meters wide).

  1. The long edges of the ridges should be parallel to the lines of the paths, the walls of the house and buildings.
  2. Flowers are selected depending on the width: the smaller the width of the flower bed, the smaller the flowers on the plants should be.
  3. You can alternate different crops, or you can plant one variety, choosing the color scheme. So, orange ones will look good with purple inflorescences, blue and blue ones with yellow ones, and white ones with red ones.

When installing such flower beds near buildings, we pay attention to ensure that water flowing from the roof does not get into them.

To mark the border of a recreation area at the dacha or to more clearly define the area of a large flower garden, you can use a border, a narrow (30-50 centimeters) strip of flowers. Typically, it is preferable to take flowers up to 40 centimeters high as plants used for border construction. It should also be remembered that this type of flower bed requires maximum decorativeness from early spring until frost. This can be achieved with the help of decorative deciduous perennials, which retain a wonderful appearance even in the absence of flowering. You can see a beautiful ridge around the lawn in the photo.

Complex flower beds: mixborders and rockeries

Mixborder

If on your plot or dacha there is much more space for setting up a flower garden, you should think about installing a mixborder. This is one of the types of flower beds, planted in the form of a border, but the width can reach up to 4 meters. Unlike annual plants that bloom for quite a long time, most perennials produce flowers for only a short time.

The main task in creating a mixborder is to select varieties of perennials with different flowering periods so that there are flowering plants in the flowerbed throughout the season.

In mixborders, flowers are arranged in both rows and groups. Again, we adhere to the principle: tall plants in the background, shorter plants in front of them. Since perennial plants are planted in such a flower bed, its layout should be more carefully thought out. We think it’s worth taking a closer look at the types of perennials that we can use to arrange this type of flower bed.

  1. Among the early flowering tall plants, peony and Turkish poppy can be noted.
  2. In June, astilbe, delphinium, and lupine begin to bloom.
  3. July is the time when echinacea, phlox, and helenium begin to bloom.
  4. Aster and rudebeckia bloom later than everyone else. These flowers will serve as the basis of our flower garden.
  5. Accompanying plants can be low-growing varieties of perennials such as primrose, lavender, cornflower, anemone, and aquileia.
  6. And to complete the design of our mixborder, you should use ground cover plants: periwinkle, lungwort, aubrieta, grass carnation.

The real beauty of such a flower garden will not be revealed immediately, but as soon as the perennials take root, grow and bloom to their full potential, no one will remain indifferent to the splendor created by your hands.

Rockery

Recently, landscape design elements such as rockeries have become very popular for decorating a garden or recreation area in a dacha. Among them

  • alpine slides,
  • regular slides,
  • rock mini-gardens.

To arrange such flower beds, not only plants are used, but also various decorative elements:

  • stones,
  • small fountains,

Despite the apparent complexity, the layout of such beauty is not so difficult, and even a novice gardener can do it with his own hands.

  1. When choosing a place for a rock garden, you should remember that a well-lit area that will be visible from all sides is most suitable.
  2. In order for your creation to look aesthetically pleasing for many years, you need to take care of drainage.
  3. When arranging a flower garden, you should purchase seeds or seedlings of low-growing groundcover perennials, preferably herbaceous ones.
  4. Plants with original leaf shapes and a large number of small flowers will look especially good. You can also use a small number of low bushes.
  5. Until the green mass of perennials grows and covers the allotted space, it would be nice to fill empty areas of soil with annual flowers: marigolds, purslane, iberis.

In addition to flower beds, you can place hand-made flower pots and flowerpots around the site and in front of the house.

Old tires, buckets, pieces of boards and remnants of various building materials are suitable as a base. There really are no limits to the flight of fancy.

As you can see, planning is not such a difficult matter, and creating beauty with your own hands is an exciting activity.
