On March 11, 2018, a university-wide Day was held in the main building of the Orthodox St. Tikhon's Humanitarian University open doors. About 200 schoolchildren and their parents got acquainted with the conditions for admission to the university and the rules of study there, and also learned about educational areas of bachelor's and master's degrees and professional retraining and advanced training programs.
The ceremonial part took place in the Cathedral Chamber. The head of the Spiritual and Educational Center of PSTGU, Archpriest Lev Semenov, delivered a welcoming speech to the guests. He spoke about the history of this saint for the Church and the building of the historical Moscow Diocesan House with the Cathedral Chamber, unique for Russian history.

“St. Tikhon's University is the largest Orthodox University not only in Russia, but also in the world. Its nine faculties prepare students in state standards and issue state diplomas, at the same time all students have the opportunity to receive training in theological disciplines. The university also provides the opportunity to study in a church environment, creating favorable conditions for the formation of personality,” noted Father Lev.
A presentation telling about the history and modern life of the University was presented by the head of the department of pre-university training, Ekaterina Viktorovna Egorova. According to her, today only 52 are accredited at PSTGU educational programs, of which 25 bachelor's programs, 15 master's programs, 8 postgraduate programs, as well as 4 specialty programs and a secondary specialized education program.
“PSTGU graduates work in many dioceses of Russia. Over the years since the establishment of the university, 7,500 people have graduated from its walls - historians, sociologists, teachers, philologists, singers, icon painters, restorers and representatives of other specialties. At the same time, more than 1,000 graduates took holy orders,” added Ekaterina Viktorovna Egorova.
The executive secretary of the PSTGU admissions committee, Svetlana Askoldovna Atroshchenko, in turn, informed applicants about admission and the list of documents required for admission, about entrance examinations and the procedure for enrolling students.
The ceremonial part ended with a traditional performance by the choir of students of the faculty of church singing. During the open day, an excursion “History of the Moscow Diocesan House” was also organized with a visit to the exhibition “Museum of the Memory of New Martyrs and Confessors of Russia” and a mini-lecture by the Dean of the Faculty of Theology of PSTGU Archpriest Pavel Khondzinsky entitled “Theology as a necessary component of humanitarian education.”

Almost every more or less famous university holds an open day several times a year. Open Day is an event aimed at high school students and their parents. Conducted with the aim of familiarizing potential applicants with the structure of the university, with the features educational process and all that other stuff. Attending an open day should benefit a potential applicant in the form of obtaining new, previously unknown information. Also, try to “pick out” a couple of students and ask them to tell them in every detail about the life of the university. “I myself am studying to be a restoration artist, but here everything is bigger - and you can see how the artist’s skill grows, depending on the course,” he shared his thoughts.
Vladimir himself wouldn’t just want to do painting - he doesn’t see the use of this craft in today’s life, and restoration is closer to him. But the guy will still submit documents to the Surikov Institute - a classical art education will be useful to him in his work.

Today, with a worldwide passion and active interest in what is commonly called contemporary art, we must remember that classical - realistic, figurative art has a huge army of fans all over the planet, and perhaps in Russia - first of all. In our country, fortunately, the traditions of classical artistic training in drawing, painting and sculpture are alive. You can argue and discuss the quality and methods of teaching, but the fact that in Russia this area of training is maintained at a decent level is our huge advantage, which must be preserved and developed. Because love and interest in realistic art does not go away - and this is not only a tribute to the great traditions and masters of the past. Classical art education should not be perceived as some kind of rigid framework that limits creative freedom and the possibility of self-expression - on the contrary, it is a powerful basis for the most daring artistic experiments of authors who work in directions far from the classics.
Open Day is an official event that is held annually at every university. As surprising as it may be, many applicants who are aware of this day tend to ignore it for the most part. And it’s completely in vain, becausegive them a unique chance to get to know their future place of study and get answers to many questions on which their future depends.

Getting to know the future faculty is the second important part of the open day. It is during a tour of the faculty and communication with the dean that you can learn a lot about the features of the chosen specialty, as well as about the possibilities of preferential admission or attending special courses conducted for applicants. Here you can ask questions about the availability of graduate school, about the directions of scientific research of the departments and about everything related to the life of the faculty.
As a rule, the second part of the open day involves not only officials, but also students, from whom you can hear reviews about the university, faculty, and teachers. This information will help you understand how well your expectations from your future studies correspond to reality, and will also allow you to decide for yourself whether you really want to study here.
